Scarpa Charmoz GTX Boot - Men's

Scarpa Charmoz GTX Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 3, 2011

I ended up choosing these boots over a pair of La Sportiva Trango's just because they were a little bit wider. I never thought of my foot as wide before, but these fit great. The soles showed some good wear early on, but have since to yield anything more regardless of what I put them through. I have had these for the past two seasons and go out a good amount and they are holding up great. I tend to really tie my laces tight and I am seeing some signs of wear on the lace loops, but dont foresee a problem occuring before I destroy them with the distance that I put on them. Overall they were a fantastic purchase, but I would definitely swap out the inserts that some with them for some Superfeet.

Bright & Heavy

Mammut Lucido TX1 Headlamp

Mammut Lucido TX1 Headlamp

Rating for this product: 4 May 3, 2011

My review is similary to many others that I have read. I have used this headlamp for the past couple seasons and it is extremely bright. I always have the brightest headlamp in whatever group I go climbing with. However, I am mainly using it for early morning alpine starts and I don't need a TON of light. While most people dont mind the weight I am looking for a new headlamp that is lighter to decrease overall pack load. I guess the intended use should be the decision maker for you. Definitely a solid product regardless.

Vasque Mantra GTX Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 29, 2011

I got these to have a low top hiker for my screwing around on little hikes and walks with the dog. The toe seemed to show a lot of wear early on and got cut in a few places from simple tramping through bushes. however, after the initial damage, they have not gotten any worse since. I have taken them out in bad weather and my feet always stay dry. Defintely a good purchase.

Good to Have

MSR Denali Evo Snowshoe Flotation Tails - 6in

MSR Denali Evo Snowshoe Flotation Tails - 6in

Rating for this product: 3 April 29, 2011

I just picked up a pair of these and while they aren't completely necessary (I am 6'2 and 175), I do notice that I have an easier time in certain snow conditions than people without them. Definitely worth the price. I would recommend taking them off on descents though. Tends to make them act a little like a ski...
