  • Stomping Grounds:

so wasatch...timp, cascade, etc. all over southern utah desert.
  • Bio:

from utah. currently live, work, and play in utah. will probably die in utah. most geographically diverse natural playground on the planet. from the light fluffy powza in the winter to the secret desert swimming holes in the summer...utah has got it all! errr...minus the fact that i can't get a double shot anywhere or buy jameson at the grocery store. it is a trade off i can live with i guess.

The North Face Anchor Bib Pant - Men's

The North Face Anchor Bib Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 12, 2011

Pretty good bib for the price. they are def not lady killers by any means, but they will keep you snug and dry. my biggest complaint is that the legs are too baggy. the upper part fits great but the legs remind of those crappy ass jinco jeans that were cool...never (ok not that baggy but could most def use some more form fitting design.)btw i am 6'1" 215 lbs and the large fit pretty good, snug up north and baggy down south. i also wish that they offered then in different colors, the black just doesnt get me all that excited. overall good for the price.

The North Face Anchor Bib Pant - Men's

January 12, 2011

i am 6'1ish"+ 215 lbs and went with the large regular...that said i wouldn't want them to be very much shorter. the actual pant length creeps up a bit but the gaiter stays in place to hold out the elements. you should be fine with a regular...and if not then just return them! god bless bc.com and their return policy!

Stoic Luft Hoody Insulated Sweater - Men's

Stoic Luft Hoody Insulated Sweater - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 12, 2011

damn near perfect! perfect fit (i am 6'1" 215 and ordered a large). quality made facket and is super light and fitting. i can appreciate the length (seems like everything is made to go to my belly button these days), but this jacket is plenty long, but not too much so. the only downer is that the hood is HUGE and needs some major cinching to fit on my head sans hat or helmet. i would highly recommend!

perfect for what its made for...

Jetboil Flash Personal Cooking System

Jetboil Flash Personal Cooking System

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2010

i dont think there is anything better for just boiling water. very lightweight, compact, and effective. used it on several 7 day+ trips where instant oatmeal, java, and mountain house were my daily meals. for mountain house nothing is easier...just boils, pour water in packet, and wait 10 min. there is no clean up. for oatmeal i would usually use the platic bottom cap as my bowl so i didnt have to clean the aluminum mug. Not the best option if you plan on cooking meals with all of your own ingredients. for freeze dried this is super simple, fast, and reliable! highly recommended.

Ingenious!

Voile Split Kit (DIY)

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2010

whoever designed this kit should get the nobel prize. I was skeptical at first but after putting mine together i was hooked. granted i was a cabinet maker for 7 years and have access to shop, this is still something anyone can do in their garage. the instructions are pretty good but there are a few things that i would suggest doing that that don't specify or really emphasize very well. The obvious is to be as precise as possible...use a sharp punch to mark your holes, then use a small drill bit to drill through, then use a forstner bit on the back side for the t nut, then drill out small hole out with the correct size so the t-nut shaft will fit through. it is an extra step but it will make it that much more precise. the 2 biggest things that i would suggest you do are #1- rough up the bottom of the t-nuts before installing. use sandpaper or whatever to take the galvanized sheen off and leave a rough surface. this will help prevent the epoxy or whatever you use to fill t-nut holes on the bottom from chunking off and sticking to your skins. #2 BEFORE you use the sticker templates for mounting your hardware, epoxy the cut edges of your board. i personally prefer to do two coats on the cut edge. after the first coat take 10"+ block with a 180ish grit sandpaper mounted to whole length of it and sand smooth. i then apply a very light second coat to make sure it is sealed really well then lightly sand out any highspots. if you expoxy the edge after you mount your hardware then your width and spacing will change slightly and you may have problems.
in any case, this is a great kit and i highly recommend it!

Voile Split Kit (DIY)

December 19, 2010

it has everything you need as long as you already have a board and bindings with the 8 binding plate screws. and like michael mentioned above...you will obviously need your backcountry essentials ie. beacon, shovel, probe, poles, avy awareness etc. As for the kit though, just follow the instructions and all will be golden. i have a few pointers for you before you start if you want. just message me.

Voile Splitboard Climbing Skins

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2010

Tractor skins are the obviously the best choice for splitboard touring. i personally like the cheat sheets and use them because it makes pulling your skins apart a hundred times easier and far outweighs the hassle of having "extra" stuff to keep track of. They are super durable and i expect them to last a long time. i also have never had a problem with them ends not sticking to the bottom of the board/ski, but then again i have made sure not to let the end of the skin get dunked in the snow and make sure the board is wiped clean before applying. but if i do ever end up having a sticking problem i will for make the tail mod mentioned by tyler and niel below(thanks dudes). So throw your snow shoes away and get voile tractor skins...you won't regret it!

brightest small headlamp out there!

Black Diamond Spot Headlamp

Black Diamond Spot Headlamp

Rating for this product: 4 December 19, 2010

I have 4 of these little guys because they throw more light than any other headlamp i have every tried. the one downfall is the little plastic tab that hold the articulating head in place is pretty flimsy and has broken on 2 of my lamps (hence 4 stars instead of 5). need less to say it cant hold itself up anymore and points straight to the ground when being wore on my head. other than that it is a fantastic light...small, powerful, long lasting.

bad ass pants

Stoic Overhang Pant - Men's

Stoic Overhang Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2010

best 3 season outdoor pants i own. the waist sizing is a bit on the snug side, but other than that these are as comfy as it gets. they are also incredibly durable despite the soft shell stretchyness. i have hiked, climbed, swam, slept, etc. in these bad boys and couldn't have been happier with them. They are a little pricey, but if you can find them on sale or on steepncheap then they are well worth the price. too bad they discontinued the overhang short! i would have been all over them.

great bottle... but beware!

CamelBak Better Bottle w/ Bite Valve - .75L

CamelBak Better Bottle w/ Bite Valve - .75L

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2010

sweet bottle for dormant liquids...but if you plan on putting anything with fiz (ie jameson and ginger roadie) in it then beware...it will get ya! pretty solid design as long as you keep in a clean space. with the spigot down there is potential for dirt and other shitaki to get down in the spigot hole and then when you lift it back up it will be in your drink. other than that it is a great water bottle and the best alternative to the time proven, classic nalgene.

MSR Packtowl UltraLite

MSR Packtowl UltraLite

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2010

you wont find a better pack towel. after i got mine i ordered 2 more. super light and super packable. i agree with the other reviewer, get the biggest size. If its too big then just cut it down to the size you like and use the scrap for a smaller hand towel or wash cloth. although not your thick plush bath towel, it gets the job done and literally can fit in your pocket!

Honey Stinger Energy Bar - 15 Pack

Honey Stinger Energy Bar - 15 Pack

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2010

most bars taste like vitamin death laced with some rice crispies and drizzled with gross ass chocolate...not these. hands down the best tasting bar out there.(minus probars, but i would consider them in a different category). the ingredients are healthy and natural, so you feel good eating it. i have only had the peanut butter and honey. can't wait to try more flavors!

Honey Stinger Organic Energy Chews - 12 Pack

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2010

I bought these to stow in my pack for a 9 day float down the escalante. These proved to be a very wise choice to keep my energy level high while hiking and paddling all day long. They taste really good and i never got sick of them...in fact i remember opening my last pack and wishing i had more. i highly recommend them. taste and texture couldn't be better.

5 stars!

Petzl Tikka Plus 2 Headlamp

Petzl Tikka Plus 2 Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2010

I have had numerous headlamps aver the years and this is up there with the best (the other being the BD Spot Headlamp). the red light function is very useful in those situations where you need light but don't want to wake or bother anyone else that may be sleeping nearby. it also seems to be very durable and the engineering on the articulating part seems to be superior to others that i have used and now broken...unable to hold itself up. kudos on a bright, highly versatile headlamp. get it...you wont be disappointed.

Anon Flasher Sunglasses

Anon Flasher Sunglasses

Rating for this product: 4 December 18, 2010

The shape is pretty dope, although they are not that wide and almost look like kid sunglasses on me (my head is not that big...average size or less for sure). they also seem like they are made out of cheap materials...although that could lend to the durability in a sense because instead of breaking they would just bend and go right back in shape. super lightweight and stylish. don't expect them to feel like high quality shades though.

these shades are almost perfect except for the metal accent on the side (3 shiny pyramids). i wasn't a fan so i carefully sanded them down flat and painted them black (black/grey)to color match. super fresh glasses if you like the classic rayban wayfarer look, but would prefer a fresh spin on that vintage look

Marmot Lightweight Crew - Men's

Marmot Lightweight Crew - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 December 18, 2010

The quality seemed pretty decent and the fit was ok except for the torso was way too short. it barely went to the waist line of the pants i was wearing. i never got to try it out to see how the performance was. it was returned immediately due to the short torso length.

Patagonia Active Boxer Brief - Men's

Patagonia Active Boxer Brief - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 December 18, 2010

these fit well. but loosen up after a few hours of wearing. they are also very susceptible to body funk. i am a pretty clean dude when it comes to personal hygiene, but these will still always get that funk by days end. the best i have found for outdoor pursuits (fit and ability to stay fresh) are actually calvin klein micro modals
