Great Investment

prAna Stretch Zion Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 1 day ago

I got these shorts initially for climbing and now they have become my go to shorts for hiking as well. You'll appreciate the stretch for the range of motion and freedom of movement that it gives. I'm 5'5" 165lbs and I wear a medium for this short. the leg room for this size is perfect for my build. I have owned these shorts for over two years and used them for a lot of activities and wear them casually a lot too. It has held up really well and I think they will last me a long time. These shorts are a great investment and will pay for itself many times over.

Works Efficiently

Jetboil Classic Personal Cooking System

Rating for this product: 5 1 day ago

There are reasons why this stove has received multiple awards. It works. It does what it's suppose to do. Boil water. And it does it fast. The efficiency of the stove helps you save fuel. I used it on a four day trip boiling an average of 6 cups per day. Even boiled water for my friends a few times on that occasion. Only needed one fuel canister and still had some left over. If you are straightforward and understand your needs, this system works really well and you will hardly have any gripes about anything.Get yours here, backcountry.com will treat you well.

Backcountry.com Stoic eVent Shell - Men's

eVent is more similar to Goretex Pro. I've tried a couple of Paclite items and they are definitely thinner and have a lighter feel than eVent.

To your benefit, I grabbed three items that I have (3L eVent, 3L Goretex Pro, and 2L Goretex Performance) and did a side-by-side evaluation. My conclusion was 3L eVent feels like a hybrid of the two Goretex fabrics in thickness and feel. Hope that helps and makes sense.

A+ for the A-Frame

Oakley A Frame Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 3 days ago

Got mine in the Carbon Fiber/VR28. I love the VR28 lens and have owned two Oakley sunglasses with them. So it was only natural for me to get them for the A Frame. This goggle works! Fits great with no helmet and with one. I use it with my Giro G10 and it seems like they were made for each other. I recommend this combo if you are shopping for both. The optics like everybody below says are great and do not fog up. The VR28 warms everything up in your view and makes the scenery look even prettier. The lens also holds up well. I have not noticed any apparent scratches on mine and I've used them for several seasons. Highly recommended.

Stoic eVent Stash Shell - Men's

So Bill H, if both jackets have the same materials, is the 15K waterproof rating on the Backcountry.com Stoic eVent a typo? That's what it says on the specs on the item's page.

Is this jacket made of a better eVent fabric than the Backcountry.com Stoic eVent?

If it is, anyone know the waterproof and breathable rating?

Great for rappeling but not for belaying

CAMP USA Synthetic Plus Belay Glove - Full Finger

CAMP USA Synthetic Plus Belay Glove - Full Finger

Rating for this product: 4 4 days ago

Provides great protection when rappelling, especially at higher speeds (I don't do that often and don't endorse that though).

I am disappointed with this glove when belaying though. It lacks grip and I feel that I don't have full control of the rope. I am afraid that if I ever have to catch a drop from a heavy person I won't have enough grip on the rope. That is my experience with this glove.

Used with my Metolius Personal Anchor

Petzl Am'D Locking Carabiner

Rating for this product: 5 4 days ago

I use this with my Metolius Personal Anchor (great piece of gear). This biner has a great solid feel (the kind that makes you trust your life with it). I got the screw-lock (one of the best in the market in my opinion) for extra safety margin the red strip provides. "Red, your dead."

Get the screw gate

DMM Boa Carabiner

DMM Boa Carabiner

Rating for this product: 5 6 days ago

Definitely would recommend this to anyone needing (or just wanting) a solid biner. AS soon as you hold it you know it's meant for heavy duty use. Would recommend getting the screwgate. The other types seem to be flimsy and have little parts that might cause a malfunction. That's just me. I'm sure BD thoroughly tests their products before releasing to market. Osprey Packs Aether 60 Backpack - 3500-3900cu in

Rating for this product: 5 November 15, 2009

Very well made pack. Meant for heavy duty use. The suspension is great and has a decent amount of adjustment range. Relatively light-weight for a pack that has all these features. If you are looking for a durable multi-day pack you should seriously consider this one.

Five Ten Galileo Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 November 12, 2009

I do mostly sport climbing and bouldering. This shoe is great for both. Great edging and smearing power. I appreciate this shoe the most when edging on my toes. The shoe does the work and not my toes. Critical feature of this shoe for me. I would buy these again. Action shot is from JT.

Icebreaker SuperFine 200 Hopper T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Icebreaker SuperFine 200 Hopper T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 11, 2009

Wore this as my base with an Icebreaker Bodyfit260 Altitude on top on a three day 24 mile hike. This combo was excellent in regulating body temp. The weather was around 40-50 during our hikes and this setup kept warm enough for a majority of the time. Never felt clamminess and cold chills. Like you'll read over and over about merino wool, it's great at keeping odors at bay. This is no exception.

Good layer for fall hikes.

Patagonia Capilene 3 Bottom - Men's

Patagonia Capilene 3 Bottom - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 11, 2009

Wore this piece and BC overhang pants on a three-day 24 mile hike. Gladiodor works great, for me at least. Never took these off the entire trip. Hiked all-day and slept in them and was never bothered by any nasty smelling funk. They stay comfortable for long and active use. I'm 5'5" 160lbs and a Medium fits me great.

Backcountry.com Cairn Fleece Jacket - Women's

Backcountry.com Cairn Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 11, 2009

Got this for my gf who is a very avid runner. She absolutely loves it. Got her an XS in black and the fit and look is spot on. I knew from the get go that this jacket would be perfect for her to use for active her pursuits. The contour fit also helps her easily throw on another layer on top of this piece without adding the appearance of bulkiness. This is a very well made jacket and super functional. I want one like it for myself.

Zero Eyestrain

Smith Mogul Sunglasses - Polarchromic

Smith Mogul Sunglasses - Polarchromic

Rating for this product: 5 November 11, 2009

The Techlite glass lenses make a HUGE difference for me. I experience zero eyestrain wearing these bad boys. I wear my optics a lot whether driving, hiking, or just being outdoors, so not having to deal with eyestrain after wearing sunglasses for a long time is great. The extra scratch resistance of glass is a huge plus in the long run since accumulated scratches (bad refraction) on the lenses is part of what causes eyestrain. This is my first pair of Smith sunglasses (worn Oakleys exclusively for over seven years) and they are definitely a keeper. I would say that I would only switch back to Oakley if they made a more superior glass lens.

Love it for its freedom of movement

Backcountry.com Overhang Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 11, 2009

Wore these on a three day hiking trip in the Sierras 10/2009 and they performed great! Never felt uncomfortable after 24 miles wearing these pants and a Patagonia Cap3 base. I wore a small and they were a bit snug but the build of the pants and the stretchiness of the fabric gave it amazing freedom of movement. Protection from the elements proved to be really good as well. Great wind protection and water beads on the fabric and rolls away. Highly recommend these pants! BC products are great!
