Marvels have bow foam flotation up front that is glued in and should not be removed. Also, a support foam pillar is placed just in front of the cockpit. This is to protect the boat from any compression during shipping and can be easily removed if desired.

Rudders are needed more for longer boats to assist turning and to keep on course (track). Shorter boats like the Featherlight 9.5 don't need a rudder as they are easier to turn than longer boats. A boat that is easy to turn is also easy to correct and keep tracking.

Distance is important when choosing a kayak. IF you are a beginner looking at paddling 3 miles or less on small lakes, ponds, or small easy rivers, you wont need a rudder. If you are beginner looking at paddling more than 6 miles each session, look the 12 foot boats that come with Rudder options. At 14 feet, about 1/2 of all paddlers choose to get the rudder.

Boats 10 feet and under are better for smaller lakes, ponds, and moving water. They are easy to store and transport and generally are much lighter than big boats. If you paddling more than 3 miles go for the Featherlight 12. If you are paddling more than 8 to 12 miles, you might want a 14 footer for increased speed and tracking

For most kids under 14, you ll want to stay in the 10 foot and under boats for length and as close to 40 lbs or less. The 15 years and up can handle small adult boats, but the smaller kids will enjoy the smallest and lightest kayaks like the Ultimate 9.5, Heritage Featherlight 9.5. Also, the younger kids will need a boat no more than 28 inches wide. Their short arms need to reach the water to make effective strokes. Wider adult boats are too wide for young kids.

Max Capacity of the Ultimate 9.5 is 175 lbs. This is a kids kayak or extra small to small paddlers kayak. I would recommend paddler weight not to exceed 120 lbs leaving about 50 lbs for gear and extra stablity. If paddling on slow moving water,,,rivers, then max paddler weight of 110.

The Native Watercraft Inuit 12.5 is a one size fits all wonder boat. The outfitting is like nothing else, comfy, breathy, drains well to keep you drier and more comfortable on crossings. The boat is suitable for learning kayaking, yet high performing too, so you wont outgrow it. The 12.5 balances stability, tracking, and turning. This is a high performance hull sure to please most paddlers, beginners to experts alike. The Tru Track hull tracks like a boat a foot and 1/2 longer, but still turns fast, either on the inside or outside edge. The chines and volume distribution make this a very friendly, predictable, yet lively boat.

The Inuits are new for 2010. They come in three sizes for a custom fit. The 13.5 has a slightly smaller cockpit and lower deck to fit smaller to medium size paddlers. Inuits are the best choice for entry level touring paddlers that want a stable boat now and high performance as they develop their boating skills. Inuits combine stability, tracking, and performance in one boat. Compared to other entry level touring boats, the Inuits track like they are a foot longer and turn like a boat a foot shorter. Of all the entry level touring kayaks available, the Inuits combine primary stability and secondary stability. Inuits are an excellent choice for touring beginners and intermediates. Inuits are great for lakes, bays, and have the performance to go offshore for coastal exploring. Inuits have adjustable comfy seat, safety outfitting and two hatches and bulkheads and a small day hatch behind the cockpit.

Depends on the user and conditions, wind, waves, currents will all diminish a boat's ability to track...installing a rudder will increase the speed of your turn and eliminate the correctional strokes you have to make so you can concentrate of forward strokes to make better time/efficiency. The more you paddle the more effective your forward strokes will be and the better the Manta Ray will track. The more you take the same boat out, the more you will begin to anticipate the bow going off course and execute short correctional strokes to maintain course.
More than half of Manta Ray 14 foot owners get the boat without a rudder installed, and decide later if they need/want the rudder.
Its easy to install a rudder later and their are videos and instructions to help.

Yes, Spray skirts are available for all the Ultimates. You can cover the bow, stern, cockpit, and seat/cockpit area of all the Ultimates. Each is sold individually so you can cover some or all of the boat to keep the spray out and gear dry.
