Arc'teryx Axios Backpack 35 - Men's - 2136-2258cu in

Arc'teryx Axios Backpack 35 - Men's - 2136-2258cu in

Rating for this product: 4 January 24, 2012

I am 6'3" and own the tall size. fits very well! The pack works great for a lightweight overnight trip, but I have not been able to use it for anything longer than 2 days/1 night. The pack is very thin and tall for 2250cu inches, but when packed solid (which doesnt take a lot of gear,) it is very sturdy. Works great as a daypack too, and I use it to hold my rope/tarp/ gear every time i go out bouldering or sport climbing. The kangaroo pouch on the outside is great for stuffing my goretex jacket, but I would prefer daisy chains/ some sore of gear loops on the outside of the pack. Also, the back ventilation works pretty well, though I have had a few soaked backs in moderate weather. All in all, it is a great valued pack from Arcteryx that I would buy again and recommend to anyone looking for a solid daypack, medium sized pack.

Worth the money without a doubt

Arc'teryx R300 Harness - Men's

Arc'teryx R300 Harness - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 24, 2012

Super comfortable harness. When hanging the pressure is distributed evenly across the harness, making it super comfortable. I am 6'3" with a 34" waist and I have a large. Probably could squeeze into a medium, but the large is not "too" large. As I said, there are zero uncomfortable/restricting pressure points ANYWHERE when worn properly. Very lightweight and hardly noticeable when climbing. I've only used mine for two months now, but it has stood up to abuse and appears to have a long life ahead of it. Would recommend to anyone!

Useful for more than a sleeping bag stuff sack

Stoic WPF Compression Sack

Stoic WPF Compression Sack

Rating for this product: 4 December 29, 2010

I received a medium and small as a gift. VERY happy with these compression sacks. My synthetic 0 degree Montbell bag does not fit into either, so I will be tempted to order a large. I can't complain, however, as it is not an extremely compressible bag. Even still, these keep my extra clothes dry and compact, and I usually blow one up with an air/clothes combo and use it as a pillow for my tent. Air does seem to SLOWLY escape sometimes, and on a couple of trips I've had to reinflate my "pillow" once in the night. While I can't use the two I have for my bag, they have still proved useful and go with me on every trip I take.

A no brainer purchase

Black Diamond Spot Headlamp

Black Diamond Spot Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2010

My first head light, and while I have little to compare it to I have no complaints. The 1 watt bulb is VERY bright. Flood setting proved adequate while hiking and snowshoeing. The red LED's are also a nice option to have. They give a very dim light which I found useful for that late night pee trip out the tent, while having conversations without blinding anyone, and while enjoying the moonlight and stars ll while maintaining low light around camp. Battery life is superb and build quality is great. I may even pick up extras for myself I love it that much.

Daypack for all activities

Arc'teryx Silo 18 Backpack - 1098cu in

Arc'teryx Silo 18 Backpack - 1098cu in

Rating for this product: 4 December 29, 2010

Perfect day pack for when i hike, mountain bike, or ski/snowboard. Lots of room, surprisingly. I can't review the ski.board carrying system yet as I have not used it yet, but even when I ski it is comfortable enough to wear. I cant tell it is there and it holds my bladder, extra layers, my wallet etc and my jetboil for a hot meal off piste in the trees. Quality in construction is evident, and it is VERY waterproof. My only complaint is the waist "belt." Arc'teryx could have put more effort into making it solid- it is only a strap. I am 6'3" tall and while it took 10 minutes to fit it to a comfortable setting, it is not overly small that its awkward.

just add water...

Jetboil Flash Personal Cooking System

Jetboil Flash Personal Cooking System

Rating for this product: 5 December 22, 2010

The perfect solution for one to two people. Partner this with Mountain House dehydrated meals and you are set. Just add water! Boils water FAST, cools down just as fast. The neoprene does not burn and is cool enough to handle bare-handed all the time. The best is how it all components store in the main canister. I use it hiking/backpack camping all the time, and even use it to cook a quick hot meal skiing off piste. It has never failed me and the gas canisters go a long way. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for dehydrated meals and boiling water.

Arc'teryx Rho LTW Zip-Neck Top - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Arc'teryx Rho LTW Zip-Neck Top - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 22, 2010

I am 6'3", 180 lbs and own a LARGE. It is a SICK baselayer, and fits tight but not overly tight. Wicks away sweat like I have never experienced before with synthetics. WOOL is the way to go. Not itchy against my skin at all. I can fit a t-shirt under it when desired and wear it over that, or even alone as a form-fitting sweater. I used the pocket to hold my cellphone while skiing to keep it next to my body and keep the cold from draining my battery. Worked great. Could also place valuables like I.D. or even a key in the pocket to keep them safe & secure. The zip is NOt annoying at all to me, and never do I get a zipper chill from a cold zipper. Used it many times without washing it and it still doesnt stink. THE ULTIMATE BASE LAYER. Do not hesitate to buy one, especially if you currently own a synthetic layer like Under Armour- you wont be dissapointed you spent $120 on the RHO LTW!

Quality product, one SMALL complaint

Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 22, 2010

Am I biased about Arc'teryx? Yes. People may complain that at $250 you are only paying for "Arc'teryx" printed on your jacket, but this jacket works like a charm. Great as a casual rain/snow jacket. I can even wear it with slacks, a shirt and tie and keep a "business" look with a black jacket. But also a champion jacket for light outdoor sports. I used it backpacking in rain/sleet in Utah with a wool baselayer under in 20 degree temperatures and stayed warm and dry while active. Pitzips would be a great addition, but are not necessary. The jacket is VERY lightweight and breathes well. Also used it skiing twice at Snowbasin in Utah. Temps were 15 degrees with snow coming down and it worked great. Took a couple tumbles and no tears/wear on the jacket. I am 6'3" and 180lbs and the Large fits well. Sleeves are great length for my long limbs, and it has a slim/athletic fit which is NOT restricting. The cut is short however, which is nice around town and hiking/backpacking, but while i said I used it skiing, it did not perform well keeping powder out while bombing hills(which I expected, but used it anyways.) All in all, the jacket has ALWAYS kept me dry, ALWAYS breathed well, and ALWAYS looks good. The fit is exceptional, the quality is evident, and I always get compliments on it from fellow outdoor enthusiasts and even people who dont know what "Arc'teryx" is, let alone Gore-tex. Owning several Arc'teryx pieces I can say the extra money you fork over is worth it once you experience a product of theirs, and the Beta SL is no exception. Four stars only because the velcro wrist adjustments work well and are durable, but still do not measure up to drawcords.

Perfect 1st Wasatch trip

MontBell Super Spiral Burrow #0 Synthetic Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree

MontBell Super Spiral Burrow #0 Synthetic Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree

Rating for this product: 5 December 22, 2010

Used this bag for the first time on a backpacking trip up a canyon along the Wasatch in Utah in December. It performed GREAT. Temperatures were only in the low/mid 20's, but I only wore top and bottom base layers in the bag and stayed 100% warm- never woke up cold ONCE. Even without a beanie on the bag's hood kept my head warm. It is easy to move around in and the material truly does move with you and eliminate air pockets. The draft collars are very functional. The synthetic option also proved useful- we had slushy rain find its way into the bottom of our tent while we slept (our tarp under the tent ended up funneling it in)and woke up with damp (not saturated) bags. I stayed dry inside and warm, as the synthetic down continued to work when wet. Only complaints are weight and stuff size, which you have to expect from a base level 0 degree bag. Its not light, but the weight was not unbearable for me. Same with stuff size. The included stuff sack works nice and compacts to an acceptable size, but I will be interested to try another brand stuff sack and see if I can compress it more. I would recommend this to a friend, grandma, enemey, whoever. Buy this bag. For $200, its a must have if you can't afford the more expensive down options.
