Osprey Packs Exos 58 Backpack - 3300-3700cu in

May 14, 2010

I have not found osprey packs to fit tall skinny people (like myself) very well. Except the old Stratos.

Giro Filter Glasses Don't Let Me Down

Giro Filter Sunglasses w/Case

Rating for this product: 4 February 24, 2010

I have used these for about a year for competitive cycling. I love them for that purpose. I don't usually wear them around for anything else. In my opinion they match the style of most cyclist pretty well but are a little extreme for everyday use.But the fit is great and they have fairly good coverage. They don't go as far down, though, as I have seen on other glasses. But the coolest part is the lens changing feature. You just twist a part of the frame to unlock the lens. It is super easy and there is no chance of them falling out. They are expensive, especially full price, but they wear like 150+ dollar glasses. I do not regret buying them. They also fit in my Bell Volt helmet well.

Great Day Pack

Osprey Packs Stratos 24 Backpack - 1300-1700cu in

Rating for this product: 5 February 13, 2010

I bought this pack for an expedition this summer. We climbed three Colorado 14ers in 2 days. The pack was perfect for carrying rain gear and a few extra layers and food. The back mesh is amazing. It is really comfortable and keeps you very cool. The back compartment is also perfect for carrying a water bladder. I was able to put my 100oz bladder in there perfectly. The pack is really comfortable and well designed. The gear loops on the outside work great for when you have to put your poles up when the trail turns to scrambling. This is the best day pack I have ever used. My dad loved mine and bought one too. Great pack. I would recommend this to a friend.

Best 70L pack out there

Gregory Baltoro 70 Backpack - 4149-4638cu in

Gregory Baltoro 70 Backpack - 4149-4638cu in

Rating for this product: 5 February 13, 2010

This pack is a lifesaver. The suspension system just can't be beat. It is a heavy pack but when you load 50 pounds in it, the weight disappears. I like how the pack is organized. Enough room for gloves and a small hat on one side pocket and tent stakes in the other. Toiletries, lighter, knife, and things in the front. Granola bars and trailmix along with the pack cover and map on top. Then there is enough room in the main compartment for everything you would ever need to stay alive. 2-man tent, 20 degree bag, thermarest, stove, clothes, and food all fit in with ease. One of the best features in the tilted water bottle holder. Makes it really easy to grab your bottle while you are hiking. The construction is great. I have put this pack through the paces and the only thing that has ever ripped the fabric was a mouse (damn snickers wrapper). Above all this pack is exceptionally comfortable and excellent at carrying heavy loads. For heavy weekends and extended technical trips, BUY IT.

Great, Extremely Light Tent

Sierra Designs Vapor Light 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Sierra Designs Vapor Light 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 February 13, 2010

I have the XL version which was produced in a limited quantity. It it just a few inches longer. I got this considering I am 6'6" tall. This tent is impressively light weight. I can pack the entire tent into my backpack and still have plenty of room compared to other tents I have packed. The weight speaks for itself. For how light it is, it is really spacious. I really like how tall it is. My favorite part though, is the pole system. It is a really unique two pole design. One pole is a four legged spider with a notch on the center. The other is a pole that connects with the center of the other, then two branches that follow down to the far corners. This design allows for not only a light, simple setup, but also I really tall ceiling in the front. Also, the "feet" are really simple and a clever design. Everything snaps in very securely. The tent is very well ventilated and stands very strongly. I wish it was self standing but it is lighter this way.

Overall, great 3 season 2 man tent. Really light and really clever design. I would recommend this to a friend.

Best Softshell I've Used

Arc'teryx Gamma MX Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 13, 2010

This is the best softshell I have ever used, or even seen. Arc'teryx shows why they have a reputation for quality. Everything on this jacket is great. The construction couldn't be better. The design is awesome. The compression on the bottom is very easy to use through the pockets. And it has lasted over a year and that is usually one of the first thing that fails on jackets I have used in the past. This jacket has been flawless in that regard. It is perfect for layering. It is not all that warm on its own but that makes it great for active use like while hiking because you will not heat up. It amazing using just a long sleeve shirt and this jacket in everything from 35-60 degree weather and staying warm while not overheating. The collar is exceptionally high which is awesome for blocking wind when you zip it all the way up. Fit wise, the sleeves are excellent. They are very long and the cuffs are great. The body is pretty short but then again I am really tall so most people will probably find it to be fine.

Overall, I would really suggest this jacket. It is a great wind blocker and its water repellent quality is great for a softshell. The material is extremely stretching when you are moving and very durable thus far. What ever you are comparing it to or trying to decide between, pick this one.
