  • Stomping Grounds:

    Homebase: Boulder, CO
  • Bio:

I lead the unconventional climber-writer lifestyle that allows me to work in remote locations, have the opportunity to put up first ascents, and experience climbing internationally. While I enjoy fresh powder days and the exposure of route climbing, my focus is high-ball bouldering. I am drawn to stand-alone boulders with distinct, proud lines on pristine stone, in the uninhabited regions of the world. I enjoy exploring the unknown, strong coffee, and spicy food. I adore wearing heels and skirts as much as crawling out of the dirt.

Think Juicy Couture velour. This Marmot fleece has become my favorite travel hoody. It's luxuriously soft, has a cute feminine cut and ribbon drawstrings. A must have.

Lightest rain jacket

Marmot Crystalline Jacket - Women's

Marmot Crystalline Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 July 26, 2010

Whenever I go climbing I bring WAY too many clothes. At the risk of sounding cliche, I think it's a girl thing. But bouldering in Colorado's high alpine requires you to be prepared for every weather pattern -- blazing sun, torrential downpour, icy snow and high winds -- all in the same day. To keep it light, I depend on Marmot's Crystalline Jacket as my waterproof rain jacket.

Ankle aid

La Sportiva FC ECO 3.0 GTX Hiking Boot - Women's

La Sportiva FC ECO 3.0 GTX Hiking Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 July 26, 2010

After three bad sprains, my right ankle is weak and wobbly. For my upcoming expedition to the Indian Himalayas, I need a lightweight hiking boot with good ankle support, comfortable construction, and a sticky sole. This past weekend I tested out Sportiva's Eco 3.0 at Mount Evans hiking through spongy alpine terrain, insecure talus fields and substantial rainfall. They kept my ankle safe and feet happy all day long.

Favorite approach shoes

La Sportiva Fireblade Trail Running Shoe - Women's

La Sportiva Fireblade Trail Running Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 29, 2010

On most approaches I prefer to wear lightweight running sneakers vs heavy hiking boots. These are by far my favorite approach shoes on the market. They're low profile, super comfy, well-ventilated, and the FriXion rubber is sticky for rock scrambling.

Revolution Climbing, Inc. Spot Pad

Revolution Climbing, Inc. Spot Pad

Rating for this product: 5 May 31, 2010

For light and fast missions, I always bring the Revolution Spot Pad. It's the perfect size pad for mellow, low fall circuits to lengthy hikes and rugged talus fields. You can also pack it inside larger pads if you need extra landing surface. An essential for any boulderer.

Whispers of Confidence

La Sportiva Testarossa Climbing Shoe- Discontinued Rubber

La Sportiva Testarossa Climbing Shoe- Discontinued Rubber

Rating for this product: 5 May 28, 2010

This past season in Hueco Tanks, Texas I fell in love with the breathtaking highball Whispers of Mortality (V10) on East Mountain. The problem starts with four steep and powerful compression moves to a sinker pocket at the lip, followed by a rose move that transitions to a terrifying face with big pulls between thin, technical edges. The landing is flat, but the fall is big. I decided to hold off on the top out until the send to add a little spice. When I entered the no fall zone from the start, with sweaty fingers and heart racing, I felt absolutely confident standing on the dime-sized edges wearing my La Sportiva Testarosas.

Check out the Testarossas in action in this video of Whispers of Mortality edited by Jason Kehl and featured online at Dead Point Magazine :
