go size small, they run big...very big, and you'll still have plenty of space and zero restriction. my girlfriend in this jacket had to size down 2 full sizes. if you're gonna be using a lot of layers, i'd recommend at least going down one size.

the lowest i've heard the grigri catch on is mid 9 range..like a 9.7 rope..though it is not rated for that. trango cinch is a good alternative, also try the edelrid eddy. it ranges from 9 to 11...most people love it, and then there are some people who don't know how to operate it and give it a bad review.

Patagonia R4 Fleece Jacket - Men's
March 15, 2010
...personally i wouldn't consider the north face denali to be considered an outdoor functional jacket..it's purely designed for casual purposes only. patagonia is definitely the competition to beat when it comes to their layer products. this can actually be used in the elements and functions the way a layer should. i've owned the denali, and it's deceitfully popular for the wrong reasons..most people just get it because it looks good and is the staple north face product. patagonia in my opinion is just in a totally different realm of gear.

Black Diamond RPM Backpack - 1587cu in
March 15, 2010
well, personally i'd take chris davenport's word for the pack. he skied all the colorado 14ers in one year. that's 59 14,000 ft elevation mountains. so, props to him on that, however, i don't know if he used this particular pack for that. the pack's hip belt is uber wimpy and is really only used for stability, and can be used without it. it's a super light pack. and if you're looking for a pack with more hip belt padding get the BD demon, which is essentially the same pack but with a better hip belt. if you read the description it's main use is for trad climbing and shorter hikes. you can carry you whole rack on this pack. i mean you could jimmy rig this to hold your skiis, but it's not really intended for this purpose.
if you want some other alternative ski packs, the BD revelation pack has an excellent setup and can hold your skis, shovel, probe, etc. the new and updated version is better than the original. the osprey switch, BD Alias, BD covert, and if you can get your hands on it, the Haglofs Edge is one of the best and most functional ski packs i've ever owned. Those are all good packs.

go montbell instead. half the weight and more goose fill down. compresses much smaller and looks better. i have both and the montbell is by far superior in every way. read my other posts on this about the weight and the fill comparisons. and if you were to choose between marmot and mtn hardwear...i would pick whatever design you prefer seeing that they're both good companies...but my own opinion i'd roll with marmot. and over that i would pick montbell for any ultralighter.

um...prolly just go with the medium, unless you have a huge gut...i guess it really depends on how you would like it to fit. i'm 6'2 and 180.. and normally stick with a small to medium, i'm a slimmer fitting kinda guy too..small will be a little too short on the torso if your pants ride low.....xl and xxl is WAY too big...unless you're going g-unit in here...
