Black Diamond FlickLock Snow Saw
March 5, 2011
Yep - they changed that after I pointed out to BD Europe that all their literature, website, product info sheets supplied with poles and saw etc. listed the pure carbon as compatible, when they'd actually changed the saw slightly and it was no longer compatible.
They offered to swap my poles for some that did fit, but they were such a good deal I didn't want to pass them up. In the end I made a small shim from a piece of ice-cream tub lid which makes it fit just fine.

Osprey Packs Kode 30 Backpack - 1600-2000cu in
March 4, 2011
If you keep the zips at the top you can pretty much just open them and pull the shovel out. If you need it fully open it takes about two seconds to undo the top buckle and open the zips fully.

Osprey Packs Kode 30 Backpack - 1600-2000cu in
March 4, 2011
yes, just. You have to arrange the shovel handle etc with a bit of care and the zip is a bit strained during closing, but I manage to get my BD deploy 3, ortovox 240 carbon pfa and bd saw in ok, along with lunch and some skins all in the avy tools pocket.

Black Diamond AvaLung II
January 21, 2011
Unless you have an airtight seal with the tube ie your mouth, the avalung won't work. It requires positive and negative pressure through the circuit for the valves to work. I can't imagine skiing with an airtight mask on is goin to be very comfortable.

MontBell Ultralight Thermawrap Insulation Parka - Men's
December 8, 2010
Anyone got any comparison of this and other insulated jackets eg Montane Flux Jacket or TNF Redpoint Optimus Insulated Jacket (both of which are available in Scotland)? I've managed to get hold of a thermawrap parka here, and find it hard to believe it'll be as warm as it's competition which is twice the weight, though it is surprisingly warm.
Cheers

Black Diamond Fritschi Diamir Freeride Pro Binding -108mm
December 5, 2010
Hi there,
I've got some small Pro's with a 100mm brake which fit fine on my 105 waist Liberty Helixes. They only seem to come in 90/100 mm brake size here (UK) and on Fritschi's website. We obviously use skinnier skis this side of the pond!

Black Diamond FlickLock Snow Saw
November 6, 2010
Just bought one of these with some pure carbon poles and the lower is way too loose in the '14mm' port but too big for the 11mm port. It's supposed to fit just fine but the attachment system seems unusable.
Anyone else have this problem?
Cheers
Pete

Black Diamond AvaLung II
September 27, 2010
Hi there. I've seen a few posts mentioning transplanting an Avalung II into / onto a non avalung pack. I was wondering if the same thing could be done with the avalung in an avalung pack? I've seen bandit avalung packs cheaper than an avalung II. As I'd like it in an Osprey Kode anyway it would make sense to by the cheaper bandit avalung pack, transplant the avalung component and still have the bandit pack to use for something else.
Has anyone tried this, or even know if it would work?
Cheers
Pete

MSR DragonFly Stove
August 1, 2010
Hi. I've had my whisperlite for quite a while and it's been great. When the burner snapped off the swing-arm weld MSR put me in touch with the UK importer who swapped it for an improved bit within days.
My question is about pot compatibility. I noticed somebody asked about sizes before, but I was wondering if any of you have a titanium pot set you manage to nest the stove inside for transporting? I'm looking for something 1.3 to 1.5l I think, with a pan style lid in Titanium. If anyone has a tried and tested setup I'd be keen to hear about it.
Cheers,
Pete

Liberty Helix Ski
April 18, 2010
Hi there. I'm interested in a set of 176 Helixes as a do it all ski. Is there any noticeable difference between the 08/09 and 09/10 ski ? I've found some 08/09 ones reduced to nearly half RRP, but am unsure if the older ones have the slight tip and tail rocker the current ones are supposed to have. Rocker seems to be appearing on a lot of back/side country skis. Is it worth having?
Cheers,
Pete

Mammut Monolith GTX Boot - Men's
February 1, 2010
Hi. I'm looking for a boot to use for scottish winter use. I don't do any climbing at present but would like to have the option of doing a bit at some point.
My question pertains to crampon use with these boots - the Mammut site states they are compatible with strap on crampons. Given the obvious abscence of a toe welt full step ins are a no go, but I can't tell from the pics if the heel / sole unit would accept hybrid types such as Grivel new-matic bindings.
These boots look like an attractive alround mountain usage option, especially as my current B1 raichle boots fit well and the price point is appealing (and they're stocked by a shop I can wrangle a discount out of), however I'd rather avoid full strap-on crampons. Any experience / comments gratefully received.
Cheers,
Pete
