Arc'teryx Alpha SL Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 27, 2011

When I first got this and wore it in the rain, I was concerned. When I removed the jacket, I could see moister inside on the shoulders and in the sleeves, which had me really disappointed. What I realized was that this was my sweat as it evaporated through the shell, the jacket was not leaking, and you can solve this problem by wearing a Patagonia Capilene or equivalent which transfers your sweat better. SInce then, I've used it climbing Mt. Hood, Diamond Peak, Smith Rock, running, biking, winter camping, snowboarding, and through multiple blizzards in sub-zero. As a Paclite, I'm not sure if it was meant for the extreme, but it stands up to the challenge.

No. I promise you, as sure as rocks are fun to climb, there is no center mark on this rope. :)

Edelweiss Oxygen SuperEverDry Climbing Rope - 8.2mm

November 15, 2011

Would this rope make a good alpine/mountaineering rope? I'm looking for a lightweight dry-treated single line to use on alpine climbs, glacier travel and summits.

Eureka Forte SQ 2XT Tent: 2-Person 3-Season

November 8, 2011

The diameter of the poles for the Forte is twice that of your average backpacking tent, though that says nothing regarding the thickness of the aluminum, they seem to be sufficiently beefy. Also, comparing Kelty to Mountain Hardwear is like comparing Saturn to Ferrari...just saying, easy choice most of the time, your paying for quality, reliability and a good warranty.

Gregory Z 55 Backpack - 3050-3660cu in

February 18, 2010

Well, my camelbak 3 litre fits fine in the sleeve but it's hard to get it in there if the bag is packed. There are holes for your tube on either side and a nice elastic loop to secure the tube to the strap. Hope this helps!

Awesome mid sized pack

Gregory Z 55 Backpack - 3050-3660cu in

Gregory Z 55 Backpack - 3050-3660cu in

Rating for this product: 5 February 18, 2010

The first thing I have to say about it is how versatile it is! You can load it with all you need for a multi day trip or you can cinch it down to hold just a math book and it still is snug and secure all around! This is an awesome pack for just about anything and I've only found a couple of problem spots. The first thing I don't like is that there really isn't a water bottle pouch so you have to pack the bottles in the front stretch pocket or inside the pack or use a hydration system. The second is when I had the pack packed to capacity for a 5 day. After a day or two, I noticed that the lumber pad had an underlying piece of plastic or something that, when the pack is heavy, can irritate your lower back through the foam padding. Otherwise, an awesome pack and nothing to stop me from buying it again. Definitely recommended. Oh, and the little description list on the upper left of the page is wrong! There are in fact two ice axe loops with elastic fasteners and the front stretch pocket is the perfect shape for a shovel even when the pack is full.

Mountain Hardwear Monkey Man Fleece Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Monkey Man Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 14, 2010

Always wanted one and was ecstatic to find one in the clearance rack at REI! It's super warm, super soft, super cozy, and a very comfortable fit. I look awesome in it and women seem to enjoy touching it whenever they get the chance. The only drawback thus far is the little nylon coathanging thing on the inner collar. It rubs a little bit on your neck above your shirt but I found a way to tuck it down a bit. Otherwise, it's all the jacket I thought it would be! Super satisfied. 5 stars.

Mountain Hardwear Monkey Man Fleece Jacket - Men's

Just a second....Well, it looks about 2 to 2.5 litres when compressed. Yes, I did just take it off and smoosh it in my arms.

Mountain Hardwear Monkey Man Fleece Jacket - Men's

February 14, 2010

I wear a medium T-shirt so I bought this in medium and it fits quite well. I can layer it under my Sub Zero jacket on a cold day and it doesn't feel too bulky. Under a shell it should work fine, if your not sure, REI has them so get over there and try them on with your jacket.

Mammut Monolith GTX Boot - Men's

January 31, 2010

There are subtle differences, the main one being that the monoliths have upgraded technologies. Raichle just basically changed it's name to Mammut and improved a number of things when they went from the All Degree Sl to the Monolith.

Mammut Monolith GTX Boot - Men's

January 31, 2010

If you're looking for DEDICATED winter boots, don't buy these. Buy a pair with a plastic shell (like a pair of Scarpas). These boots have Gore Tex but the leather on the outside soaks up melted snow all day and freezes to ice when you wake up in the morning. You also want a boot that's a bit warmer. These will keep your feet warm pretty well but will also keep you comfortable in 60 degree weather, they're made to be flexible. You might find a plastic boot with removable liners.

Mammut Monolith GTX Boot - Men's

January 31, 2010

What removable liner? I've only had these for a few months but I'm pretty sure there isn't a removable liner in them. Also, you can buy them for $180 on Amazon.com from Altrec. Save you $70.

Black Diamond Contact Strap Crampon

Black Diamond Contact Strap Crampon

Rating for this product: 4 January 31, 2010

These are great multipurpose crampons. The only thing I don't like is how they will rust if say you forget about them after a hike and leave them to rust. Black Diamond just redid all of their crampons in stainless which means you'll never have to worry about rust. I recommend getting these in stainless for sure.
