Marker Baron Ski Binding

October 21, 2011

I'm 5'6", 140lb girl and I ski 120+ days a year. I want to use these bindings on my Kikus but I'm not sure they will hold up 100+ days both off the lifts and under the ropes. I'm not super concerned with weight at this point and I love this price point, but I might be able to afford the Dukes. Anyone have an opinion?

MSR Hubba Hubba Tent 2-Person 3-Season

July 26, 2011

The gear loft isn't super compatible with the Hubba Hubba but there are pockets on either side that fit your watch, leatherman, headlamp, and hand sani. The pockets are right above your head so you can access your gear easily.

Compact

MSR Hubba & Hubba HP Footprint

MSR Hubba & Hubba HP Footprint

Rating for this product: 5 July 26, 2011

I like how this clips into the pole system with the body and fly of the tent. It is compact and easy to pack up with the rest of the tent without adding weight or bulk. It might be cheaper to cut your own plastic tarp but it makes up for the price in how light weight/compact it is.

Nixon Time Teller Acetate Watch - Women's

Nixon Time Teller Acetate Watch - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 July 26, 2011

This is the only watch I wear. I have it in the Tortoise shell and it's really cute. The tortoise shell isn't overkill or tacky like some patterns can be.

The watch isn't hugely bulky. I got some links removed and it fits perfectly. I have an average wrist and it doesn't look ridiculously large on it.

I've taken the watch swimming with me a few times and so far it's withstood the water test. I take it off in the shower and hot tub (steam!) as a preventative measure, despite the 2 year warranty.

Overall: sturdy, stylish, and perfectly sized.

Marmot Pinnacle Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down - Women's

Marmot Pinnacle Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 23, 2011

I got this bag last summer and love it. It's super comfy and lofty- I felt like I was cuddling up in a down cocoon. Which I guess I was...

I tend to get very cold around my midsection and this bag did a great job keeping the heat. My feet were still a little bit cold but much warmer than in any other bag I've ever slept in. I used it most recently in the Utah desert in temps below freezing and this bag did a great job. I woke up with frost every morning but it kept me warm, kept the moisture out and was quick to dry.

I'm 5'5"ish and have the regular. I found it's JUST too small. I like a little wiggle room and will be getting the long. The regular fits me but there is only an inch or two of space in the head and none at the feet.

Gregory Baltoro 75 Backpack - 4455-4760cu in

May 23, 2011

I am a huge fan of Osprey packs, the Aether and Xenon in particular. They are really durable and super comfy. I can't attest to the quality of a Gregory pack- I've only used Mountainsmith, Deuter, and Osprey for long-distance trips.

The lumbar support from the Mountainsmith pack I have is the best, but Osprey is more durable and has the strap thing figured out better.

As far as waterproofing, to be honest I line my backpack with a thick garbage bag and put everything inside that. I don't trust the waterproofing on anything that has my sleeping bag, shelter and extra layers inside it.

GoLite Shangri-La 3 Nest

May 20, 2011

I'm not sure of the exact height specifications but to put it in human terms, it makes changing a lot easier. If you're the person sleeping near the pole, you can sit up without any fear of touching your head on the shelter. I'm 5'5"ish and could easily swap pants and change in a weird sort-of-bent-over standing position.

Solid Little Pad

Therm-a-Rest Trail Lite Sleeping Pad - Women's

Therm-a-Rest Trail Lite Sleeping Pad - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 May 20, 2011

This is a solid sleeping pad. It kept me surprisingly warm on the still-frozen ground in Southern Utah this winter. It's comfy and light! I give it four stars because, while I love the pad, it's slick. I kept sliding off the pad, especially when I got anywhere near the edge. Since it's a sleeping pad you're pretty much always near an edge so that got irritating.

All in all, though, I'd say this is a great sleeping pad for the cost. Light, rolls up small, and comfy. I'm glad I switched to this pad.

Full Tilt Soul Sister Ski Boot - Women's

Full Tilt Soul Sister Ski Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 1 May 20, 2011

So I grew up doing ballet, and as a result I have wide-ish feet and an incredibly high instep.

I have read and heard so many positive reviews of Full Tilt boots so I gave them a shot for a combined full season.

NO NO NO NO NO. Not for me. While I liked them (in theory) the design is just not made for feet like mine. The boots crushed my arches, leaving massive bruises and numbness. They consistently made my feet cramp from the heel to under my arch. They pinched the balls of my feet so badly that when I would take off my boot my toes would be white, numb and FREEZING COLD to the touch. I didn't even ski with the lowest buckle fastened at all. I gave them a few months to break in before getting them heat molded, then gave them another few months. I still had to stop and take them off every few hours just to let my feet recover.

My other complaint is the construction of the buckle system. It's an awesome, easy system but it's built cheaply. The wire would slip under the buckle and I would literally have to go to the Deep Powder House and use their wire cutters to get my boot off. It happened a number of times and FT never responded to my queries. They sell replacement cables so they know this is an issue. Seriously? I have to get CUT OUT of my boot? No, thanks!

Easy and Entertaining

MSR WhisperLite International Multi-Fuel Stove

MSR WhisperLite International Multi-Fuel Stove

Rating for this product: 5 May 19, 2011

I love this stove. You can use it for big and small cooking endeavors alike. Easy to bring to a boil and once you get a little practice you can even bake on it. I love how small and light it is- no issues with it in a huge backpack on multi-day trips.

My favorite thing about it is the cleaning mechanism. You know when you get frustrated with your phone/ipod/camera/whatever and just want to shake it? With the Whisperlite you do! Just shake it and it comes back to life. So awesome!
