So Comfortable

SmartWool PhD Outdoor Ultra Light Mini Sock

SmartWool PhD Outdoor Ultra Light Mini Sock

Rating for this product: 5 April 16, 2012

The moment I put these on, they were the most comfortable socks I had ever worn. They have been great for hiking during less than hot/cold conditions. Perfect for fall and spring. I really like the support zone around the arch.

Very Nice

Big Agnes Air Core Sleeping Pad

Big Agnes Air Core Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 4 April 16, 2012

I love how small and light these are. It is plenty comfy, quick to blow up, and kept me plenty warm during Utah Winter campouts. Only downside is that you sometimes slip off it while you are sleeping.

Marmot Windridge Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Marmot Windridge Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 April 16, 2012

This worked alright. Its wicking was alright, but it did dry fast. The sizing is a little big. The small is large on me, and I am about 5'9", 140 lbs.

Favorite Bare Foot Shoe

Merrell Trail Glove Shoe - Men's

Merrell Trail Glove Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 16, 2012

I have run without shoes of any kind, and in several types of barefoot shoes. These have a wider toe box which lets your toes and foot spread out naturally. When I first started using them there was one spot on the inside of my ankle that rubbed a bit, but everything else was fine without socks. They have plenty of traction. Compared to the minimalist they will last longer, but don't breathe quite as well.

Tubbs Wilderness Series Snowshoe - Men's

I was really happy with these. They went up and downhill really well, hardly ever kicked snow back at me, and I was never hitting my ankles or stepping on top of them.

Icebreaker RealFleece 320 Aspiring Zip Jacket - Men's

November 29, 2011

I am not sure on the exact weight, but I think it is somewhere between 100-200. It is more windproof than other fleeces. It thicker and denser: keeps out more wind. It would not keep out gale force mountain winds. But it doesn't feel like you are not wearing anything when the wind blows.

Sooooo Comfortable

Icebreaker RealFleece 320 Aspiring Zip Jacket - Men's

Icebreaker RealFleece 320 Aspiring Zip Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 29, 2011

This is seriously the most comfortable, soft, non itchy, non fuzzy, fleece that I have ever worn. The fit is fantastic for me. It is not boxy. More on the slim side I should say. It almost feels like a finely tailored, fitted shirt. I am pretty slim. 5'9" and about 140. 30ish" waist and maybe a 38ish" chest. A small fits me better than any other jacket I have worn. It is not the warmest, but then again, it is a lighter weight fleece. Ideal as a mid layer, fall/spring stand alone, or sexy casual. Not a good stand alone for sitting in 30 F and below during a football game.

Perfect light to mid weight base layer.

SmartWool NTS Lightweight Bottom - Men's

SmartWool NTS Lightweight Bottom - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 29, 2011

I could not be happier with these. They are super soft. Unbelievably comfortable. The seams on other base layers I have worn have bothered me. I don't even notice they are there on these. Warmth wise, well they are a lightweight pair. Although, they are warmer than other lightweight layers I have tried. Perfect for snowboarding or other winter activities during a Utah winter, which is exactly what they are made for. However, not the best for high mountaineering unless you have some other significant layers on.

Fantastic

Arc'teryx Fury SV Softshell Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Fury SV Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 3, 2011

I swear by Arc'teryx. When I first got this I put it on and drove about 65 mph down the high with half my torso hanging out the window to test the wind proofness. I could not feel anything then or on the lifts and slope since I have been using it. Really easy to move in. Hood completely seals out the elements if you cinch it down. Easy to layer under. I have used it alone with a base layer in 30-40 degree weather. With a fleece or a thin puffy layered under handles most temps below that, unless it is seriously crazy cold. It is pricey, but you get more than what you pay for.

Pretty Good

Marmot Scree Softshell Pant - Men's

Marmot Scree Softshell Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 3, 2011

They are super comfortable. I have used them for hiking in utah winter weather and in temps around the 60s-70s. Much hotter than that and they start to over heat. By far they are the best for climbing in. They are really easy to move in and breathe really well. They actually breathe a little too much for winter. I would not use them in 32 F or below without a base layer of some kind.

Outdoor Research Durable Dry Sack

Outdoor Research Durable Dry Sack

Rating for this product: 4 March 2, 2011

I used this in Central America to keep important stuff dry as I swam across channels pretty islands of the coast of Belize. I was a little doubtful at first since it is not as sturdy feeling as some Baja bags out there, but it worked like a charm. Really easy to seal too. I am not sure how it would hold up to a bunch of abrasion yet but for keeping stuff dry it works. For more technical, and rough, activities something more durable might be better. But for stuffing in a pack, or carrying by itself it is perfect.

Simple and effective

Smith Scope Pro Goggle

Smith Scope Pro Goggle

Rating for this product: 4 March 2, 2011

For a simple pair of goggles without any of the frills this great. I only have problems with them fogging a little if I am hiking out of some deep snow and looking down for a long time. Good bang for your buck.

Perfect for Backpacking

MSR Packtowl Nano Lite

MSR Packtowl Nano Lite

Rating for this product: 5 March 2, 2011

I have used this backpacking through Central America. For weight and size it is perfect. It weighs nothing and will fit in the absolute smallest cranny in your pack. If you have long hair it will not get it anywhere near dry, but that is what the sun is for. For drying your body it is great. You will have to wring it out a few times, but even when it feels like it is soaked it will keep picking up water.

Toasty

Sea To Summit Reactor Thermolite Sleeping Bag Liner

Sea To Summit Reactor Thermolite Sleeping Bag Liner

Rating for this product: 5 December 27, 2010

I was really surprised with this one. It is feather light and almost see through, but some how manages to still be really toasty warm. I have a 15 degree down sleeping bag and I overheat in minutes at temps around the 20s. Works great as a stand alone bag for cool temps.

La Sportiva Mythos Climbing Shoe - Men's Discontinued Rubber

La Sportiva Mythos Climbing Shoe - Men's Discontinued Rubber

Rating for this product: 5 May 28, 2010

My absolute favorite thing about these shoes was how they fit, and how the lacing worked. They are longer and narrower than other shoes I've used, and did stretch out. But the lacing system on them can be adjusted to get the fit perfect. In the end they have been my favorite all day shoes. I've spent hours in them at gyms and outside. They held an edge pretty well, really liked how they smeared. For higher performance I prefer the Miuras, but you really can't go wrong with these ones.

Miura VS Mythos

La Sportiva Miura Climbing Shoe - Men's Discontinued Rubber

La Sportiva Miura Climbing Shoe - Men's Discontinued Rubber

Rating for this product: 5 May 28, 2010

I've been climbing in these for about two months now. They don't stretch that much at all. I am usually between a 9.5 and 9 US size for shoes and I went with the 41.5 for these. They fit pretty well. My toes hurt a little after a long day. They aren't as comfortable for all day use as the Mythos, and are wider in the toe than the Mythos (which I found pretty narrow). But this really has not been a problem. They smear and edge really well. I would say better than the Mythos. I have not had any trouble sticking on to tiny ledges and smearing on slabs. All in all these are a great pair of shoes. Speed Lacing is great! I have heard that the down-turned toe goes away after use. Its still to soon to say for sure but I think it does become less pronounced.
