Nice fleece

Norrøna Lofoten Warm 2 Fleece Jacket - Men's

Norrøna Lofoten Warm 2 Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 7, 2010

Nicely made fleece that pairs well with the rest of the Lofoten system. Wrists feature thumbloops and a thin panel to use the jacket thumbloops. Chest pocket is nicely place. Like most Norrona stuff it's a bit expensive for what you get. For the $190 you get a fleece jacket that's not much different than the others. The "classic green" matches the green zippers on the other Lofoten gear, i.e it's a bright green.

Stoic Luft Hoody Insulated Sweater - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 January 2, 2010

As others have said this jacket has an odd cut - very long arms and very small chest. Not much insulation, would be an adequate light layer on a freezing or just below day, not much more. Ok quality, nothing special. Not really impressed.

POC Communication Neckroll

December 16, 2009

I bought it and will answer my own question.

It fits the Receptor/Receptor Bug. Will not fit on a Skull Light XP. Included is the earpieces, a connector cable with inputs for audio jack & mobile phone (sony and nokia adaptors included). Cable has cutout switch and volume changer. The same stuff, same poor quality, as the Smith/Skullcandy Twintip at 3x the price.

Ortovox Check and Ride

Ortovox Check and Ride

Rating for this product: 1 November 11, 2009

Like the other reviewer, I find this pretty useless, and it's a bit bigger than I was expecting, over 5" long. The compass and altimeter are worthless, and the amount of information that can be stored - hazard level, tendency, critical elevation and aspect is fairly limited. An odd product to say the least.

Cloudveil Zorro Jacket - Men's

Cloudveil Zorro Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 November 11, 2009

The good:
For a cheap jacket this one has a nicely athletic cut, and nice features like pitzips, well contoured adjustable hood and nicely done cuffs.
The bad:
The fabric wets through in under an hour, the fabric wears quickly, and the stitching frays.

November 8, 2009

I'm a 34 in everything and they don't fit me. Too tight in the thigh (a common complaint) Don't know why Patagonia sized these with very slim thighs, pretty silly for a ski pant and if it weren't for that they'd be great.

Arc'teryx Cierzo 18 Backpack - 1098cu in

Rating for this product: 4 October 27, 2009

It's light, packs tiny, and will carry what you need on board every airplane. Wish the straps were set slightly wider apart, for barrel chested people they can chafe. Also would like the back pocket to have a tab for locking shut. A few minor quibbles, that's all, but for the price they should have been taken care of.

Everybody should own a little pink (.5) tricam

CAMP USA Nylon Tricam

CAMP USA Nylon Tricam

Rating for this product: 5 January 9, 2008

Ode to a Pink Tricam

Oh Pink's the one I love to place
when I'm alone way up in space
on some exposed and airy face.

They sink where other gear won't go.
When all you've got is manky pro,
This tricam saves your butt from woe.

But it's often hard to get them out;
They make your second moan and shout
And wave his nut tool 'round about

But that's why you're the one on lead
Your problems are a different breed
As long as someone does the deed...

"Oh quit your whimpering," you rumble,
"And get it out or there'll be trouble"
"Get to work now, on the double!"

Although it sometimes takes a while,
They do come out with vim and guile,
(or chiselling and curses vile.)

Pink will do what all the rest.
Won't do when they're put to the test.
Oh pink tricams are just the best!

Rating for this product: 3 August 30, 2007

I owned this headlamp and decided to return. Pros - with the extra bright bulb it's ridiculously bright. The rechargeable battery is nice, as the design of the chargers (you don't have to take the battery out of the headlamp to recharge it). Cons - bulkier than most headlamps, and the battery is heavy and awkward at the back of your headlamp. If they'd designed it with a detachable battery pack it'd be perfect.

Black Diamond Venom Tech Pick

Black Diamond Venom Tech Pick

Rating for this product: 4 June 4, 2007

Transforms the Venom into a serviceable ice tool - but it's still not meant for lots of water ice or alpine climbing.

Spring Ski Shelter of Choice

Black Diamond Beta Light Shelter

Black Diamond Beta Light Shelter

Rating for this product: 5 June 4, 2007

Great for spring skiing trips with just a partner. It's light, imminently packable and can handle a surprising amount of weather.

If you've got more than 2 people total the megalight is right for you.

Best long underwear for skiing

Patagonia Wool 2 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Patagonia Wool 2 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 4, 2007

Best long underwear for skiing. Period.

Sized so it stops at the top of your ski bottoms, trim but not snug, and wool so it doesn't stink. All you need.

Odd sizing

Arc'teryx Rho LTW Bottom - Men's

Arc'teryx Rho LTW Bottom - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 June 4, 2007

Very nicely detailed - like all of Arc'teryx products - but let down by a very odd cut. The legs are extraordinarily long relative to the waist.

It's got the good things for urban traveling (a corkscrew and scissors) but the other tools may not be the most useful for fixing your Peugeot in Paraguay.

It's so small, light, and useful - everyone will want one! I've had mine stolen twice, each time I've looked to find something better, but this is the perfect headlamp.

Mandatory for Zion

Five Ten Canyoneer 2 Shoe - Men's

Five Ten Canyoneer 2 Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 4, 2007

There's a reason 9 out of 10 canyoneers in Zion wear these boots. They rock. Rubber that's sticky, but still wears well, enough holes to drain but not pick up sand and gunk and enough support for the hike in.
