Rossignol S7 Barras Ski

December 21, 2009

How do the mounting points on the S7 correlate to mounting points on the System, i.e., if I am mounting telemark bindings on the S7 and want to use the System mounting point as a guide, is the System mounting point +6, +3, 0, -2 or none of the above? Also, any thoughts for where to mount Hammerheads for all-mountain use (both backcountry powder and sidecountry/resort use)? Thanks in advance!!!

Great Leash!!!

Black Diamond ClipWire Ski Leash

Black Diamond ClipWire Ski Leash

Rating for this product: 5 December 16, 2009

I have used a lot of different leashes (e.g., G3, Garmont, etc.) and these are hands down the best leashes around. They do not ice up (or do not ice up to make them unusable) and can be put on and removed easily with one hand and with gloves on. I have over 150 days on my BDs and never experienced any fraying...although the plastic that surrounds my wire has cracked off. I don't use them (or any leashes) in the backcountry so I cannot comment on Gee's comment below. The Black Diamond ClipWire is highly recommended.

22 Designs Hammerhead Telemark Binding

December 16, 2009

For mostly resort skiing, I would recommend the tried and true Hammerhead. Although the climbing function is not as great as an O1 (and according to reviews, neither is the Axl), the Hammerhead works just fine for the backcountry, and is cheaper than the Axl.

G3 Targa Ascent Telemark Ski Binding

December 15, 2009

Anyone have much experience with this binding as a predominantly front-side binding? How does the lateral stability compare to other bindings (e.g., a Hammerhead)? I am looking for a binding to give as a gift to an intermediate telemark skier that rarely ventures outside of the resort.

Rossignol Phantom SC97 Ski

December 15, 2009

I agree with Rick...at your height and weight (coupled with ski ability), I would go with the 178cm. The 170cm may be good in tight trees, but you are sacrificing other qualities of the ski at such a short length (e.g., stability at speed). Also, if you are trying to become an expert skier that will ski more of the mountain, the 178cm is a better length. Finally, 8cm is roughly 3 inches...hardly an amount that would make sking trees much more difficult.

Rossignol SYSTEM S7 Pro Mancini Ski

December 14, 2009

I am sure this has been asked before but I am hoping someone can address my specific situation. I am an advanced telemark skier that can ski any terrain in most conditions. I am 5'9", 165 lbs. and currently ski Black Diamond Kilowatt (175cm) as my everyday ski, with the Black Diamond Havoc (175cm) as my teaching ski (I am a part-time telemark instructor), and the Rossignol Ravyn (174cm) as my powder ski. All three skis are mounted with Hammerheads and I am on Scarpa T1s. The Ravyn skis very short so I was looking for a new ski for my powder ski. I mainly ski the resorts, with some sidecountry and a little backcountry, so this ski would see a lot of resort use. I understand that the general rule of thumb with rockered skis is to size up approximately 5 - 10 cm; however, 188cm seems like a big jump, and I should be in the 182 - 185cm range. Any thoughts? Should I be looking at another ski to fill this role?
