favorite hat!!! I'm buying more...

The North Face Softshell Windproof Beanie

The North Face Softshell Windproof Beanie

Rating for this product: 5 January 30, 2007

Thin, light weight, fits in a pocket... but it blocks the wind and it's warm enough for almost all occasions.
I got mine for free as a part of a bundle deal, and I'm going back for more.
This is a great hat for winter exercise (running, snow shoeing, skiing, etc.).
I don't have the problem with itching from the ipod slots that other reviewers mention - mine feels great! I like the Backcountry Goat logo more than the North Face one.

6 years on them...

Marmot Ultimate Ski Glove

Marmot Ultimate Ski Glove

Rating for this product: 5 January 22, 2007

That's the longest I've ever owned a pair of gloves!
They've packed out in the lining a little bit, but otherwise still look new.
A warm glove, good dexterity and the gauntlets fit nicely over my coat.
I actually use the leashes and wouldn't buy a glove without them now.

Long skinny fingers?

Marmot Alpinist Tool Glove

Marmot Alpinist Tool Glove

Rating for this product: 3 December 19, 2006

These did not fit my pudgy short fingered hands. In a mens small, the body of the glove was too small... but I had extra material at the end of the fingers. If you have skinny long fingers, you will like the glove.

Great tool..

Swix Coarse Diamond Stone

Swix Coarse Diamond Stone

Rating for this product: 5 December 4, 2006

My favorite diamond stone has been the Moonflex, but these new Swix ones are equal and perhaps a bit better than the Moonflex. I like both the Moonflex and the Swix better than the DMT stones.
The red Swix diamond stone is a 400, what some would call a medium grit.

Too hard for a base prep...

Toko Base Prep Gray

Toko Base Prep Gray

Rating for this product: 2 December 4, 2006

The best base prep wax is SSVT/RaceService1 because it flows at a low temp and impregnates the base.
I found the Toko to be OK, but a tad too hard. It did not soak into the base well, and even after top coating with a harder wax, they skis quickly base burned.
I actually find the Toko system 3 yellow is a better choice for hot scraping and base prep.

Swix Waxing Table - Small

Swix Waxing Table - Small

Rating for this product: 5 December 4, 2006

I've got 3 boys who are ski racers. This table gets a lot of use tuning the numerous skis in our house.
It comes with a great heavy duty travel bag. I've been eyeing the rack accessory for it for stashing skis while you are tuning.
Great product... sturdy, stable, and well thought out.

A must have for ski racers

Toko Oval Base Brush with Strap

Toko Oval Base Brush with Strap

Rating for this product: 5 December 4, 2006

These are much better for brushing out bases than the little square swix brushes.
Buy this one for cleaning and refreshing the structure on your base, and buy the nylon brush for working fresh wax into the base.
A must have for speed...

The most fun ever...

ZAG Big 84 Alpine Ski

ZAG Big 84 Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 March 4, 2006

What an energetic ski! It's light, soft, and snappy. They are the polar opposite of the Dynastar Legend Pro. I took them Heli skiing with the Wasatch Powder Birds yesterday.
We had about a foot of fresh, and they ate it up. Lot's of float for me (155lb), and very quick turns even in the crud.
But they are not the heavy steam rollers that plow through the crud like a Legend Pro. What really surprised me is how much fun they are in on-piste. They carve like crazy, and do a decent job of holding on ice. They even make a nice bump ski. I bought this thing to be a Vermont woods ski, and I'm exceptionally happy with the ski for this purpose.

forget about the fat...

Fischer Prohete 106 Alpine Ski

Fischer Prohete 106 Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 March 4, 2005

I ripped these for a week in Utah - nine day old re-crystallized powder in the wolverine chutes. These blasted through everything.

I also skied the Dynastar Legend Pro's, and the Big Stix are so much quicker in all conditions. They also feel light under foot. You will forget they are fat!

The groomers are the only place you'll realize you are on a fat ski - but you shouldn't be on groomers anyhow.

It's a Lowrance iFinder...

Brunton Atlas GPS

Brunton Atlas GPS

Rating for this product: 5 March 4, 2005

So it is compatible with all of the lowrance accessories, including the nationwide mapping program called 'map create'.

It works well - perhaps a tad slow on initial location when you fly to a new location. I purchased the data cable and use it with Microsoft Mappoint.

Good product.

Wife loves this jacket....

Isis Niobe Down Jacket - Women's

Isis Niobe Down Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 4, 2005

It looks nice, and is very warm. We live in northern VT, when temps drop below -10F or so, she wears this with a Marmot jacket as the outer layer. The combo is warm no matter how cold it gets.
Very good product - looks great, stays warm.
