Salomon XT Wings 2 Trail Running Shoe - Women's
May 20, 2012
I think this would be a great shoe for you. Personally, the XT Wings 2 is my favorite shoe ever. It is alot like the Kayano in that it has the dual-density pronation control. It would be great for 10+ miles because of the excellent cushion as well as the AC Skeleton which is a rigid stability plate that runs throughout the shoe. Keeps the shoe feeling good mile after mile. Salomons sometimes run a bit small. Either a 7.5 or an 8 would work for you depending on how you like your shoes to fit. Hope this helps your decision!

In general, UK is a full size smaller than US sizing. So the shoes would be an 11.5 US.

I would recommend the Saucony Mirage for overpronation. Looks about the same as the Kinvara but provides more stability.

Salomon S-Lab 4 XT Wings Trail Running Shoe - Men's
May 13, 2012
Hi Drew, I think the Speedcross CS will be a better shoe for snow/wet conditions, but if you prefer the XT Wings over the Speedcross (which i do), then go with the soft ground version of this ( http://www.backcountry.com/salomon-s-lab-4-xt-wings-soft-gro

Salomon SpeedCross 3 Trail Running Shoe - Men's
May 13, 2012
These are perfect for snow/mud conditions, with really deep and aggressive outsole lugs, and decent water shedding abilities with the mud guard and such. However, if you're looking for your feet to be completely dry, go with the Climashield version of this shoe. Climashield is not like Goretex. CS is highly water resistant but still highly breathable. I haven't actually run in a CS shoe so I cannot attest to its breathability in sandy desert or anything, but it is supposed to be better than Goretex for breathability.

No, it is just a polyester material. A few drops will be fine but i wouldnt wear it in a storm. It can zip into waterproof North Face shells, though.

Teva Riva eVent Hiking Shoe - Men's
April 20, 2012
Not a whole lot of difference. The Riva has more quality, name-brand materials: a vibram sole, suede nubuck leather upper, and weighs 1-2 oz more. The Raith has a teva spider rubber sole and manmade upper materials.

Chaco Updraft Bulloo Sandal - Men's

For me, Chacos run pretty large. I wear a 10 or 10.5 in most shoes and my Chacos are size 9. I think a size 10 for you would definitely be fine

Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's
March 29, 2012
You definitely could if you wanted to. The lugs on the Contagrip sole aren't very big, and this model has good pronation control for road running too. You might also check out anything from Salomon's XR collection. They are specifically meant for road and trail crossover running.

Salomon XR Mission Trail Running Shoe - Men's
March 20, 2012
I've found that Salomons run a tad small. I wear either 10's or 10.5's in all shoes, but a 10.5 in Salomons works best for me. For you, I'd say the 9.5 would be a good choice.
I think this is a short to medium distance model because they don't have any sort of pronation control or stability plate such as in XT or XA models. They have excellent cushion and forward momentum, though, so I dont think they would be a problem on longer runs.

Five Ten Hornet Climbing Shoe
March 18, 2012
In general, 5.10 runs the same size as your street shoe. I have the 5.10 Team, which is highly aggressive like these, and I wear the same size as my street shoe. They fit suuuper tight and take a while to get used to (aka wear them for more than 30 minutes). Go 11 if you can handle some pain, or go 11.5 if you dont mind sacrificing some precision for comfort

DAKINE Heli Pro 20L Backpack - 1200cu in
March 1, 2012
I don't have a picture but I can describe it because it's so plain. I have last years version. The main pocket is large and roomy with a hydration sleeve built into the back panel. The small, top, outside pocket is fleece-lined for goggles. The bottom outside pocket is large and roomy also, with a small plastic vent at the bottom to allow snow to melt out. There are no extra sleeves in any compartments for pencils, snacks, etc. Just big and roomy.

Five Ten Team 5.10 Climbing Shoe
March 1, 2012
I have these shoes and wear a 10.5 street, 10.5 Team. They are very tight and moderately uncomfortable, but perform well. The feeling gets better with time (mostly because your feet get used to it), but I'd say to only go up a half size or else risk losing some of the aggressive feel that these have. Go with the 11.5

Salomon Wings Sky GTX Hiking Boot - Men's
March 1, 2012
In my experience, Salomon Contagrip soles are just as durable as Vibram. I also think they have better grip on slippery surfaces (such as wet rocks), but am not sure for snow.
If this Wings boot has the same soles as my XT Wings running shoe, the lugs are not very big for snow traction. But if you don't want a "Winter boot" then you won't find much bigger lugs on any other summer GTX boots anyways. Keen does a good job of putting big lugs on their summer and especially winter boots. Hope this helps!

New Balance MT110 Trail Running Shoe - Men's
February 10, 2012
As more minimalist shoes, like the PureGrit's, they should fit snugly in length. They have wider forefoot widths to let the toes naturally splay out, but your toes should aaaaalmost be touching the end of the shoe. If you're looking to buy these, I would size them accordingly compared to your Brooks. If you think your Brooks are too floppy, go down a half size.
As for your ankles, the minimal cushion and stability in these kind of shoes overworks the muscles in your ankles and calves, and it is normal to be super sore after a run, compared to your Nikes.

Smith Variant Brim Helmet
January 29, 2012
Smith makes a whole line of Over The Glass (OTG) series goggles. I think for a small face, the Challenger OTG might be good. Check them all out though. The ones that change with light are called photochromatic. I'm not sure if Smith makes any goggle lenses with it, only sunglasses.

How close are the sizes to what? US sizes? Check out the sizing chart underneath the price for EU > US conversions. Compared to other Danksos, these are a bit more forgiving up top because of the strap. I wouldn't size up or anything. Go as true to your size as possible

Merrell Trail Glove Shoe - Men's
January 23, 2012
You'll want to size these snugly. I'd say if you're wearing those sizes in other shoes, you should probably go for a 12 in the Merrell. I wear a 10.5 in my salomon and saucony runners, but a 10 in my Merrell barefoots gives me plenty of toe box room

Backcountry.com Verticle Logo T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's
January 23, 2012
This shirt does run a bit small and tight, and definitely do not dry it. It will shrink a bit after the first wash, and after 2 washes mine fits loose around the waste and neck and tight in the arms...just sloppy. But I got a M and always wear a M. A Large would be hugely baggy on me by this point.

Redfeather Snowshoes Arrow Modified Snowshoe Kit with Poles & Tote

You want to size for the weight including any backpacks and snow gear. The 25 inch goes up to 175 lbs, so it will be fine for the female, and should work for the male if he stays on hardpack trails and no powder. Otherwise, the 30 inch goes up to 220 lbs

Are your toes hitting the end of the shoe when you stand up? Does it feel tight anywhere else? If the shoe feels snug all around and your toes aren't more than a thumb's width from the end, then sizing up should be alright.
