Marmot ROM Softshell Jacket - Men's

Marmot ROM Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 December 7, 2010

who's taller than me. I was disappointed by how long and baggy around the waist this jacket is. I'm 1.79 cm tall (5.87 ft) and got an M size. I was looking for a softshell with an athletic fit for trail running mostly. This isn't what I was looking for fit-wise at least, I didn't have a chance to try it under rain/ windy conditions so I can't say much else about it.

Best trail running shoes

Salomon SpeedCross 2 Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Salomon SpeedCross 2 Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 18, 2010

XA Pro's were my favorite trail running shoes until I got a pair of these. They fit like gloves to my feet now after a few moths of use and abuse. They're so light that they feel like socks with a good grip. The only downsides I can think of are durability and protection for your feet (try not to kick stones on these). But then again, they're exactly the opposite of sturdy mountaineering boots.

Great pants

Mountain Hardwear Mesa Convertible Pant - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Mesa Convertible Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 18, 2010

I'm very satisfied with these pants. As other reviewer said, they're baggy at the bottom but this allows you to convert them to shorts without taking your boots off. I'm 1.80 cm tall and weight about 81 Kg, I got the M size and it fits really well.

Great for belay

Black Diamond ATC-XP

Black Diamond ATC-XP

Rating for this product: 5 June 19, 2009

I use a 10.3mm rope for rock climbing and the ATC-XP works great with it. The high friction side is great for belay, however not for rappel; it's a little bit too much friction and sometimes you have to feed the rope when you're beginning the descent at the top of the route. But that's why this ATC has a low friction side and it performs really good too. Definitely recommended.

Black Diamond Momentum AL Harness

May 11, 2009

I made a descent to "El Sotano de las Golondrinas" in SLP, MX; A pit with over 400m in depth. I would not go down in this harness, instead, get a petzl harness that is made for caving, there are plenty out there. The main difference is the center of gravity, in caving harnesses it's a little lower than in climbing harnesses, which makes you stay in a sitting position when you're hanging freely from the rope and stay much more comfortable during long descents.
