A huge ski bum from the 'burbs of NYC. I live for POWDER DAYS. Snow is constantly on my brain. I go where the storms are. Ski mostly in Vermont and NY, with the yearly trips out west or to Europe. Mountain Biking keeps me same in the off season. Not quite the same fixx but it works.

MSR SuperFly Stove

MSR SuperFly Stove

Rating for this product: 5 January 2, 2012

Used it for the first time to make some soup for lunch during a ski trip. Just warmed up the fuel inside my jacket for a few mins and had no problems boiling a leiter of water. Def took 3 mins maybe even less. This stove is the $h!+, can't wait to take it backpacking this summer.

Awesome!

Nikwax Glove Proof

Nikwax Glove Proof

Rating for this product: 4 May 15, 2011

Nikwax doesn't disappoint. This stuff is great. Brought my mitts back to brand new. It left a little haze on my black leather palms but that doesn't bother me. It actually helps with the grip. My only complaint is the applicator. Its a weird brush on the end that doesn't really dispense allot of the product. I found my self pushing it in with my finger to get it going.

Love it

Stoic Monolith Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 12, 2011

F'in love this jacket. Its lightweight, windproof, and water beads off it like an umbrella. Not very insulated but the slight fleece thats on the is inside comfy. Bottom line is its a great jacket, It really holds up on in the mountains, built tough and is my go to for going anywhere. I wear a medium and it fits fine. Im 5'8" about 150 lbs.
Edit:
Used my monolith for my treck up Tuckerman Ravine. The jacket worked great! Blocked out all the wind which is helpful up there. I really do love this jacket.

Nikwax TX-Direct Spray-On

Nikwax TX-Direct Spray-On

Rating for this product: 5 April 12, 2011

This stuff is awesome. Picked it up in a pinch and was very impressed. Lasts way longer than the cheap stuff. After a week in skiing in a massive SLC dumping the first day I was soaked and miserable. Picked up some TX Spray on and I had no issues with being wet any more. If you need to re water proof your gear don't cheap out and buy this. Its well worth the $$$$

What I needed

Columbia Cathedral Peak Vest - Men's

Columbia Cathedral Peak Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 12, 2011

This is exactly what I needed. A light weight fleece vest that isn't very bulky under my ski jacket and works perfect on those cooler days when you need just a lil bit more. Its not windproof or waterproof, but for me its a base layer.

Great Hat

SmartWool Full Powder Day Hat

Rating for this product: 5 February 12, 2011

I love this hat. Its warm as hell, and I think it looks manly enough to rock out on the hill. Riding in the east I find that this hat is warm enough for me. Its not windproof so sometimes on the lift I wear my hood, I don't mind. The hat is very comfortable, its not itchy, and fits my head just fine. I wear a 7-7 1/4 hat. You can't go wrong with Smart Wool.

Sick Mitts

Black Diamond Mercury Mitten - Men's

Black Diamond Mercury Mitten - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 23, 2011

If you need a worm pair of mitts. These are so warm. tried them out on a blustery 2 degrees day up in windy Vermont. My hands were almost sweating. I suffer from Raynoid's syndrome and didn't have the slightest problem with these mitts. They are a little bulky and could use some more waterproofing. All in all I am very satisfied. They run a little small. I usually wear a L with these, a M. Being that they are Black Diamond, you know the quality you are buying.

Mediocre Mittens

DAKINE Titan Mitten

DAKINE Titan Mitten

Rating for this product: 2 January 17, 2011

Lets just say if you are looking for a disposable pair of mitts by all means get these. They wouldn't last a day in the woods. The material is cheap nylon that just doesn't seem durable will rip very easily. I opened them up, tried them on, and sending them back. Very disappointed in the quality of these. Spend the extra $$ and buy the quality

Awesome Shovel

Black Diamond Transfer 3 Shovel

Black Diamond Transfer 3 Shovel

Rating for this product: 5 January 15, 2011

I have a Black Diamond Outlaw pack and an Osprey Kode 22, this shovel fits preferctly in both of them. This shovel can move snow! Luckily I haven't had to dig any buddies out yet, but when that day comes having this in my hands will make the job easier and quicker. Its a pretty rugged shovel for something so light weight. Has made a few booters and has got my car out of some pretty rough spots. All in all a worthy purchase

Ortovox 240 Economic Probe

Ortovox 240 Economic Probe

Rating for this product: 5 January 15, 2011

This is a light weight sturdy probe. I have not had to use it in a real situation. Just for some practice. I don't even know its in my pack and I ski with it every day out, whether in the east or not. It straightens out very easily and quickly. Honestly I hope I never have to use it but its always there, just in case.

Volkl Bridge Alpine Ski

November 30, 2009

If you are just mainly hanging around NE with the occasional trip to France, you might want to look at another ski, like the k2 Recon. I have these skis and only take them out on powder days and my trips out west. I may be 28 and really like to rip down the mountian, I don't use these skis for that. They are great in knee to mid thigh deep snow. Ive had great powder days in UT on them and some great powder days in VT. These are a little too much work to turn and on groomers, and have some nice chatter at high speeds. I only use them in fresh snow and in the woods. I would look into a pair of skis with a system binding. My other set of skis is the K2 Crossfire Apache which has a system binding. I let my 58 yr old father with back problems use them and he doesn't hurt anymore after a nice cold day in VT. The skis may be a little heavier but they turn and respond great.

Sweet Pack

Black Diamond Outlaw Winter Pack - 1831-1939cu in

Rating for this product: 4 November 30, 2009

Def a sweet pack. I needed something to take with me for my vaca to Utah this winter, and my treck up Tuckerman's Ravine on Mt. Washington. The packs straps tuck away nicely, the locking clips on the top hold pretty well. The pack is big enough to hold all of your gear. I can fit my jacket and pants along with the rest of my gear in it. The goggle pocket is very plush, but I'll still keep my goggles in their sock, just cause I'm neurotic. My only complaint is the bladder pocket. A 100oz and 70oz CamelBak bladder are too big so for long days on the hill your gonna have to just let your bladder hang inside the pack. The skis mount very securely in the A-Frame position, and are balanced well. Im just not sure how much total weight this pack can take. When I strapped my boots to the pack it felt like that was just a little to much. All in all this is a really sweet pack and just what i was looking for.

Edit 4-23-11:
The pack held up to the trek up Tuckerman. No problems at all it held more than what I needed. My only issue was I had to tie the straps to keep them from slipping. The strap locks slipped a lil, but nothing major. Very pleased with its performance.

Black Diamond Outlaw Winter Pack - 1831-1939cu in

November 30, 2009

Yes, the 100oz is too big and so is the 70oz. That is for the pocket any way. I'm going to just just clip in my 100oz and let it hang inside the bag.
