Guide Boat

Necky Chatham 16 Kayak

Necky Chatham 16 Kayak

Rating for this product: 5 April 21, 2011

I'm a guide and work in Prince WIlliam Sound.. we have a chatham 16 as one of our guide boats. when i first started working the hatches leaked quite a bit, but with a little time and some silicone the problem was mostly resolved. before the repair almost no one wanted to paddle the chathams (both the 16 and the 17 had the leaks) But since i've made the repairs, everyone uses the boats.
Initially it is pretty tippy, but the secondary stability- with a lean or a brace- is super tight. with the skeg the boat tracks impeccably, and is super quick. A lean turn really gets a fast response and tightens the turn radius. It is a great boat- ive had it is crazy surf, big swells, and super calm pools- and it's done the job!
The hatches are a bit tough to get things in and out of, but for the volume of the boat they're nice.
The skeg can get jammed if you slide it in some smaller rocks, but a slide up and down each side with your knife usually fixes the problem.
Overall, great boat!

Heritage Kayaks RedFish 10 Kayak

Its all about balance and confidence... we have much narrower boats, and we stand and have paddle wars on the boats. so we dance around on top until we either get knocked in or jump in. I think with some practice, you could get it done with out getting wet.

Necky Chatham 16 Kayak

As for getting in, the paddle brace is usually the preferred method. from the straddle position it'll probably be a struggle to get your legs in quickly, unless of course you've been goin to it with the Bikram yoga.
Good luck!

Necky Chatham 16 Kayak

I'm 6'1'' and ~200lbs with size 12 kickers and I paddle both the 16 and 17 comfortably all summer, so you should fit with no problem. The adjustably of the thigh braces is key, and paired with the seat/backband it can make a snug fit for most people.

Good for the price! Not much padding, but the padding it has is in the right places. they stay up all day rather than get bunched up at the bottom of my boots, and kept me super toasty!

Black Diamond Slant Alpine Touring Boot - Men's

Black Diamond Slant Alpine Touring Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 19, 2011

This is my first AT boot and i love it. I have yet to take full advantage of the intuition liners and get it formed to my feet, but it still holds out great. being the cheapest in BD's series of boots, it still holds it's own. The range of motion is the same as the others, its just missing a buckle and has a bit more weight... Love em

Black Diamond Ascension Nylon Custom STS Skins

Black Diamond Ascension Nylon Custom STS Skins

Rating for this product: 5 April 19, 2011

Can't get a better more durable skin... with the warmer weather we've been going on ice, sticks, and even some gravel has been poking through, but the skins are still in great shape.. super durable and worth the little extra change over the competitors!

Rossignol Eclipse Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rossignol Eclipse Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 25, 2009

This jacket is the way to go. For the first week i had it I didn't have a chance to really use it, but eveyrone commented on it... big bird, "is that your raincoat" and so on... nyuck it up, but i love it. It kept me warm in -20 degrees and then on the slope it was bomb proof. The cuffs are incredible, the pockets are all in the right place and everyone was used.. and the vents are positioned just right so when your riding down the hill the air comes right in to cool ya off. When the sun went down i zipped it all the way up and pulled up the hood and it was like turning on the heaters.. Awesome Jacket. The description doesnt mention anything about the RECCO avalanche reflector on the sleeve.. basically it just sits there until someone with a RECCO equipped avalanche beacon (most resort ski patrol has it) is looking for you and it reflects the signal back to them.. so if your hittin the huge stuff and get caught up in an avy, theres a better chance of them gettin ya out!
SWEET JACKET... You won't be dissapointed!!
