Petzl Ascension Handled Ascender

Rating for this product: 5 July 30, 2009

You'll see more of these than any other ascenders, and for good reason. They are comfortable, light, strong, and easy to use.

Backcountry Access Tracker DTS Beacon

July 30, 2009

This beacon handles multiple signals just fine - i'm not sure what the other reviewer is referring to. It doesn't deal with vitals, though i've never seen a beacon that does. It is a specialized tool, best kept simple.

Carlisle Extra Heavy Duty Raft Oar Shaft

Carlisle Extra Heavy Duty Raft Oar Shaft

Rating for this product: 3 July 30, 2009

These are cheap and will take a lot of abuse, but are probably the worst feeling oars on the market. Cataract oars aren't all that much more money and are worlds better, without the hassles of wood oars.

NRS Metro Inflator/Deflator Pump

NRS Metro Inflator/Deflator Pump

Rating for this product: 2 July 30, 2009

This is a very slow and bulky pump. It really doesn't do a faster job than the very cheap coleman mattress inflators, though it'll last longer. Go for a higher quality pump, or save the money and buy a very cheap coleman.

Aire Double Action Hand Pump

July 30, 2009

Probably about 3-4 PSI. It is plenty for topping off an inflatable raft or kayak.

Aire Double Action Hand Pump

Aire Double Action Hand Pump

Rating for this product: 3 July 30, 2009

This pump is small, inexpensive, and lightweight, but it is also pretty flimsy. The hose has a tendency to develop leaks, so keep duct tape handy for repairs. You have to be very careful not to torque the handle from side to side, which is easier said than done when topping off a tube behind a mountain of gear.

The North Face A5 Crux Cargo Pant - Mens

The North Face A5 Crux Cargo Pant - Mens

Rating for this product: 4 December 13, 2004

I mostly like these pants. My only gripe is that the front pockets have a pretty tight opening - not easy to fish your wallet out while you are sitting down.

This is a very nice basic quickdraw for sport climbing. Wiregates on the rope end are the only way to go.

Life-Link Economy Snow Study Kit

Life-Link Economy Snow Study Kit

Rating for this product: 5 December 13, 2004

This is a really nice tool to bring on ski tours. The slopemeter gets constant use, and the rest of the kit is good when I'm digging pits. There have been a couple of fatalities in Utah already this winter - everyone should be religiously evaluating the snowpack if they are in the backcountry.
