  • Stomping Grounds:

Salt Lake City, UT - UINTAS!!!,Zion, Wasatch Front
  • Bio:

In short I LOVE Backpacking and Fishing and even more when I'm doing BOTH AT THE SAME TIME!!!, when I'm not doing it I spend my time wishing i was or planning my next trip. I also like to Sport Climb, Boulder, and Snowboard, as well as run Marathons and a few trails near my house. I'm thinking about signing up for the Wasatch 100 this coming year as well as a couple other Ultras in the area.

GREAT for the MONEY

In my Opinion, for the money this pack is great. I have no regrets at all.
I agree with the post below in that, The water bottle holders do suck really bad.. when i have it packed full i have a hard time even getting snacks in and out of them. But it really isn't an issue since the pack has a built in hydration system so you just need to put a bladder in there and you're good to go. I guess if you didn't have room in your pack for a full bladder i have seen some water bottle holders that attach to the belt on a pack but i have never used them. The other thing that worried me was the material isn't the most rock solid i have ever seen. I haven't had anything super horrible happen yet but i do baby it, and i anticipate have to buy a new pack in a couple years. Other than that i really like the design and the comfort... it holds everything i need and the removeable hydration pack for shorter day hikes is way sick too. Like I said REALLY good pack for the PRICE.

VERY RELIABLE.

Katadyn Hiker Pro Water Microfilter

Katadyn Hiker Pro Water Microfilter

Rating for this product: 5 November 8, 2009

Picked this bad boy up about 9 months ago and have no plans of replacing it with something else any time soon. Its a Bit larger than some of the others i have seen around but in my opinion the pros out weigh any complaint I have about the Size.
What I like about it most is the ease of cleaning it in the field... My first trip out with it we were pumping out of some VERY silty water. My buddies filter clogged and were RUINED... mine clogged but we cleaned it out and pumped for the next 2 days for all three of us. If we hadn't had it we would have been very thirsty, and would have had to hike out that day.

Really Nice Little Stove...

Optimus Crux Stove

Optimus Crux Stove

Rating for this product: 5 November 8, 2009

I got this stove last spring, used it quite a bit this year, and so far i don't have any complaints. If you know you want a Compressed Butane Canister stove i would definitely check this one out. Its super affordable, and like some of the other posts have already mentioned it puts out a large sized cookable flame for the stove's small size. It has pretty good heat control as well, especially compared to some of the stoves my buddies use. One thing to remember about the compressed gas it uses, if the temps at night get pretty cold you probably need to sleep with your canister in your bag or it will be difficult to get a consistent flame in the morning.
