Great Hiking Shoe

Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 18, 2009

I bought these a few months ago and immediately took them on several long day hikes. They felt great the entire time. The waterproofing has been great, except that they have a pretty low rise, so you can't go through much water before it just washes up over the side. Unfortunately since they are waterproof, once water gets inside, it stays inside. Lots of sloshing if you get water in them.

The soles didn't seem very padded when I first walked in them, but they have been absolutely comfortable through some of the longest hikes I have done. Going over rocks (especially on descent) has not made my feet hurt like it has with other trail running shoes. I haven't had any problems with grip, on wet or dry rocks, roots, anything. They have been fine.

I ended up burning mine while trying to dry them out by the fire, it melted the foam on the outside of the left shoe from the toe to the arch, but it doesn't seem to have hurt comfort or waterproofing.

The lacing system is great. So easy to slip in and tighten.

I will definitely buy again once these wear out.

Great Glove, a little pricey for my taste

Swany X-Change II Glove - Men's

Swany X-Change II Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 18, 2009

I have had this glove for several years, used it primarily for skiing and snowboarding in Colorado and New Hampshire. Overall it has been a great glove. It has kept we quite warm for years. My hands would get a bit cold on the lifts, but they warmed right up as soon as I got off and started boarding (and I have cold hands). They have been decently waterproof. There were many times that the outsides of the gloves were just crusted over with ice, but they still helped to keep me from freezing.

I do have a beef with the glove though. They turn inside out easily when you take them off, and they are not the easiest to get back in. The index finger on my left hand has never gone back in correctly no matter how much I struggle to make it sit right. It is certainly still usable, but it an annoyance. I have to really grab the finger tip when taking them off and make sure I grab the inner liner layer as well.

Dexterity with the glove on is quite good for an insulated glove of this type. It has certainly been better than every other cheaper glove I have tried. I haven't tried many high end gloves, but I was happy with the dexterity of this one.

The material on the back of the thumbs is good for wiping snot while on the slopes. I wiped quite a bit and at the end of the day, the material appeared clean (I sure hope it just froze and fell off).

The inner liner has stayed comfortable over many uses. Definitely a winner there. Nice and fuzzy, makes it feel warm.

The cinches around the cuff and wrist are quite good and easy to use, easy to get off with gloves on.

All in all a great glove. It is a little pricey, though it is very popular and is a great buy on sale.

Nice shirt, long arms

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 12, 2009

This shirt is nice, thin fabric, quite stretchy, tight fitting. Overall I like it. The chest measurements might run a hair small, but if it is a base layer then it should be snug anyway. The arms are quite long though. The chest is just right for me, and the sleeves extend just past my fingertips. The length doesn't make them particularly uncomfortable or anything, they are just long.

Overall happy with the purchase at the SAC price.
