Luft Hoody manning the helm

Stoic Luft Hoody Synthetic Insulated Sweater - Men's

December 14, 2011

Another shot from the Hawaii cruise. This bit of sailing showed how "in a pinch" this jacket is very functional on it's own in a marine environment. Grant (pictured wearing it) had his jacket blown away during the trip, and I loaned him my Luft hoping it would hold up in the heavy winds and seas. It did amazing, and I have new confidence in it especially after watching water roll off it as we were blasted by 10' waves and 30 knots of wind!

1/2 the price of a crazy creek and just as good

Kelty Camp Chair

Kelty Camp Chair

Rating for this product: 5 4 days ago

I got this for a seat on my raft, and it's really just as good as the crazy creek I've had for years, but why pay twice as much for such a simple chair? The crazy creek does have a few more adjustability options, but for tying it off to the raft, all I needed was an extra cam strap.

Perfect pack

Osprey Packs Kode 30 Backpack - 1600-2000cu in

Osprey Packs Kode 30 Backpack - 1600-2000cu in

Rating for this product: 5 April 28, 2012

I used this last season as my patrol pack, and loved it. I could have all my medical gear, shovel, probe, skins, and lunch in it, and it never felt cumbersome. It rides really nice while skiing, and once you get the 100 oz. bladder, you'll have plenty of water on hand too. I did have my main wast buckle get stepped on and broken one day, but because of the way it's set up, a carabiner actually does the job better, and I'll never have to worry about that buckle breaking again. They've thought of everything with this pack!

Osprey Packs Kode 30 Backpack - 1600-2000cu in

April 28, 2012

I actually took back the R&D because a strap broke just 2 days after i'd had it, and got the code 30. I looked at the silo too, but opted for the osprey because of the total access zipper, compartments, ski mounts, and the helmet holder which will easily double as a rope holder for climbing too.

Smith Prophecy Turbo Fan Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 April 28, 2012

I've been using fan goggles for a few years now, and if you ever plan on finding yourself hiking and skiing a lot each day in stormy weather you can get yourself some bonus laps while your buddies are cleaning goggles, or digging themselves out of tree wells due to foggy lenses. They're spendy, but worth every cent when you realize how cool they are.

Classic short

Patagonia Baggies Short - Men's

Patagonia Baggies Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 28, 2012

With out a doubt, these are the "go to" short for beating around in the summer if you're near water (or not). Patagonia used to tout these as "put them on in the spring, and you don't need to take them off until the fall, literally". While that sounds disgusting, as long as there's a shower involved occasionally, it's not too far from the truth (just wear them in the shower too so they get washed as well). While I have had a pair or 2 of these handy for at least 20 years now, the only thing I've noticed about them you should be aware of before getting them for the first time is that the mobility is just slightly limited when scrambling around, and if you're rowing a boat in them, watch out for catching the oar handles in the pockets and ripping them, but I won't drop a star because of that simply because they are one of my favorite shorts out there.

Kavu Big Eddy Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 28, 2012

These run a bit small, so probably get one size bigger like I needed to. After I got the right size, these are fast becoming my favorite shorts. The mobility is better than the Pat Baggies I've normally used, they've got drain holes in the pockets, and the back right pocket has a nice little small pocket with a velcro closure just the right size for a few cards and cash if you want that secure when you jump off that cliff, or get trundeled in some surf.

Great approach shoe

Salewa Alp Trainer GTX Hiking Shoe- Men's

Salewa Alp Trainer GTX Hiking Shoe- Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 28, 2012

I liked my high top version of this shoe so much that I had to get this model so as not to wear out the others too fast. I recently have been using these on my mountain bike, and really like them for that too. Like the high top version, these have an amazingly stiff sole for their weight, and are excellent for any terrain, leaving your feet feeling nice after any length hike. If you want a shoe that will last for years of abuse, this is an excellent choice. My width is D, and I found them a touch snug at first, but still roomy enough in the toe box. They are so bomber that I would guess it will be many months and miles before they start to feel sloppy. This is the sort of shoe which will have the sole sadly worn out before the rest of it breaks down.

Lange Blaster Pro Ski Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 27, 2012

These boots are totally Lange, except that they feel comfortable right when you put them on. I haven't used a Lange boot for about 15 years, but after hearing how they've now been making ski all day everyday boots, I thought I'd try these out. The flex is nice, smooth throughout, and the fit is amazingly comfortable with good performance straight out of the box. Once I get them form fitted they should be perfect, but I like to ski boots stock for a bit so I know where I need to adjust them.

Osprey has done it again!

Osprey Packs Kode 30 Backpack - 1600-2000cu in

Osprey Packs Kode 30 Backpack - 1600-2000cu in

Rating for this product: 5 March 8, 2012

After nearly 20 years working ski patrol, I've used a lot of different packs, usually carrying my med gear separately using another means, and having the pack on station with rescue gear in case I needed to head out of area on a rescue. This year I went for the all in one approach with the Kode 30, and have found this to be a very versatile pack. I did add the Osprey 100 resevoir to it, but with no water, this pack feels really light skiing around even with my shovel, probe, skins, ALL my medical gear, food for my avy dog, and an assortment of knick-knacks like binoculars, straps, headlamp, etc. The assortment of pockets is great for keeping smaller items organized, and the big water reservoir compartment is large enough to stash a pair of big arctic puffy mittens in even with the water full. This pack has caused me to travel a bit lighter than before, but being able to always have all my equipment with me at all times, and in a lightweight set up has been great this year.
The compression system on this is awesome, and the suspension system really locks it to your body so that no matter the terrain, or speed you're skiing, your balance is barely affected. One nice thing I found when the waist buckle got stepped on and broken one day is with 2:1 cinch system in the waist belt you can just use a carabiner to replace the buckle, and it's almost better than the plastic buckle, especially with gloves on.

Smith Knowledge OTG Turbo Fan Series Goggles

March 7, 2012

On low, you'll barely know they're on, on the high setting it's about the same as a single mosquito hovering above your nose. On the high setting, even in high winds on a ridge, the noise only interferes with hearing your partner if they're more than 100' away, otherwise it's the best quietest sound you'll hear simply because you can always see through the lenses even with the foam soaked in sweat!

Stoic Bombshell Jacket - Men's

March 7, 2012

I've found Stoic jackets to vary in size more in the torso volume rather than the length of the jacket and arms. I have the insulated version of this and got a medium and it fits perfect. I'm 6', and 190lbs, 33" waist. I also have the luft hoody which has the same cut, but I got a large so I can wear a radio harness underneath at work. I'd say go for the XL if you want a slimmer fit for light to mid-weight layering, or XXL if you plan on wearing anything like a big puffy down underneath.

The trick to making these Luft jackets a bit more versatile is to wash them in the Nikwax TX Direct treatment. I did this to my Luft hoody, and it worked awesome shedding saltwater spray during some heavy sailing conditions. The Pertex fabric seems to hold a DWR treatment really well.

Stoic Breathe Composite Bottom - Men's

Stoic Breathe Composite Bottom - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 12, 2012

Love these tights, it's been fairly warm this year, but i've found these comfortable with exertion in temps up to 28 degrees. Below that they are warm and wick great at the same time. Overall, I'd give these the spot in the closet for %80 of your ski days. While they're warm and comfortable on the first chair when it was -2 F today, with exertion, I've only found them to feel a bit on the heavy side when the temp rises to mid 30's. This is what I would call a perfect long john for late november thru early februrary.

Used these recently on a trip to Hawaii. Good for all your outerwear

Nikwax Tech Wash and TX Direct Wash-In Duo-Pack - 300mL

Rating for this product: 5 January 12, 2012

First experience with this was awesome, washed my stoic luft hoody in it, not a garment you should use as a water shedder at all, and it made heavy sea spray roll off that jacket like BB's on a sheet of tilted plywood. That was at sea, I recently rode my beach cruiser home in a snow storm for an exciting 3 miles and was amazed how the glop was piling up on my sleeves, but would just shake off and not leave the damp spot on the fabric. That was after I'd washed it in a mild detergent to clean the salt off of it too!

my official review

Stoic Luft Hoody Synthetic Insulated Sweater - Men's

Stoic Luft Hoody Synthetic Insulated Sweater - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 14, 2011

I got this jacket because I wanted a synthetic insulator to add to my winter layering quiver. I've used this for the early part of the ski season this year, and have found it is perfectly warm in a wide range of temperatures depending upon the level of physical activity. So far it seems that in moderate levels of activity it remains in the comfort zone for me down to the single digits as long as proper underlayment is worn against the skin.
I am also impressed with how wind repellent it is. For such a relatively thin layer for it's insulation, I find myself sometimes anticipating the breeze and never feeling it, I notice this most when wearing only a t-shirt underneath, and my arms feel no wind whatsoever. This is probably aided by the cuffs at the end of the sleeves which are very snug. It is a bit hard to view my watch due to the cuff, but I feel it aids the garment sufficiently overall not to ding any stars on the review because of this.
The biggest test I have seen this jacket undergo was last week. Surprisingly, this was a sailing cruise in the Hawaiian islands in a 40' sloop. After already knowing I liked the performance of this jacket in the cold, I never thought I'd see it shed wave after wave of sea water as we sailed across the heavy seas in the Hawaiian island channels. In my review pictures I'm wearing the red Marmot jacket, and Grant is in my Luft jacket. After washing them both at the same time with the NikWax wash-in Tx before the trip, my Marmot was beading water just as fast as the Luft, wave after wave. While this doesn't mean I would trust it in a cold rainstorm in the northern rockies, It is nice to know that you could put this on in your tent in a rain storm, go visit a tree and get back before it soaks in. Or if you're negotiating some white water, be it sea water or fresh, it can fend off the spray in an emergency, and some.

Stoic Synth Trail Crew Sock - 3pr

Stoic Synth Trail Crew Sock - 3pr

Rating for this product: 5 November 17, 2011

I hope backcountry continues making these socks! This is about the only sock I wear anymore unless I'm skiing or backpacking, or wearing flip-flops. Keeping the pairs matched up takes a little practice, the trick is to get sizes in different colors. I made the mistake of getting the same color in 2 different sizes so my wife could have some, and they get mismatched come laundry day. I won't ding a star for that, but just keep it in mind, and don't let it deter you from adding some to your cart.

Super light, serious boot

Salewa Alp Trainer Mid GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Salewa Alp Trainer Mid GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 17, 2011

Wow, I got these as an upgrade from some old boots I'd been using for a few years, and initially I was a bit leery about how light they were, but after using them for a bit, this is actually a beefy boot. I had been looking for a more traditional leather boot, but comparing prices, and wanting a pair with Gore-Tex, I thought I'd give these a try, as I was looking for something under $200.
When you give these soles a flex test with your hands, you'll find them surprisingly stiff for their weight, and that is what I was after most of all. Too many boots have a soft comfortable flex right out of the box which is fine for some, but I've found stiffer soles requiring a break-in period tend to last years longer than the softer counterpart.
As far as fit goes, I tend to go a half size bigger for a backpacking boot. This allows me the options of wearing a thin sock and a mid-weight sock together to eliminate blisters, and to add a gel sole if I want. When using them with this set-up, they fit perfect. I've found that my heels stay locked in place, and the toe box is just big enough for comfort without letting your foot slop around.
As far as construction, these are built really well. The kevlar rand above the sole transitioning to leather should hold up for years before the Gore-Tex membrane could be compromised, even in rough terrain. The rubber wrapping the toes adds extra security whether in cactus country, or scrambling rocky ridges while mountaineering. Finally, the gusseting on the tongue goes all the way to the top of the cuff, and they can be laced tight to your ankle without feeling too tight or bulky at the top of the tongue. Add some gaiters, and this would make a great boot for snowshoeing in too. Anyway, nuf said, I've definitely got the low top version on my wish list too!

The best sleep system.... Ever!

Big Agnes Hog Park Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Synthetic

Big Agnes Hog Park Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 5 September 8, 2011

I got the 25" pad last year, and love it, but always had to have a blanket on it for when I rolled out of my sleeping bag, and didn't want to lie directly on the pad. Then I found this bag and Bang! problems solved, and the best night of sleep in a tent was born. I know this bag is heavy. This bag, combined with the 78" x 25" x 2.5" pad weighs in collectively at 9 lbs. But it is the most comfortable sleep system you can find, and for around $200 right now for both, it's a no brainer, especially if you are looking for a car/ river camping setup. I did find that although the bag is still fairly large in the stuff sack, It was easy to compress it to fit in my backpack. I just used this system for a 2 night trip in the Uintas. We hiked 6 miles in on a fairly rocky trail gaining about 1000 feet, 1/2 of that in the last 1.5 miles. When dinner was done and I snuggled into this 9 pound setup, it was heavenly. I could stretch my legs out, roll around all I wanted, without rolling off of the pad, and was toasty all night sleeping in shorts and a t-shirt when it got to near freezing outside. I might look into getting one of their down bags with the sleeve for my pad to lighten things up a bit in the future, but right now the weight to comfort ratio weighs in heavy on the side of comfort.

MSR Mutha Hubba Footprint

MSR Mutha Hubba Footprint

Rating for this product: 4 September 8, 2011

I only ding this by a star because of the price. I'd been using a couple of lightweight reflective tarps (@$12 each), but finally broke down and got the footprint. It has a few advantages over the tarps. It's about the same weight as one tarp, sized perfectly so rain cannot ever drip off of the fly and puddle its way between tent and tarp, so you set it, and forget about it. Gotta have it, I just wish they were included with the tents.

A necessary upgrade for any tent pegs

MSR Groundhog Tent Stake Kit

MSR Groundhog Tent Stake Kit

Rating for this product: 5 September 8, 2011

I got these mostly for extra tie-down action, but also because the first time I pounded on my stock pegs for my Mutha Hubba one of the top hooks broke off. Granted, it was hard packed desert dirt at a regular campground, but I figured I needed a sturdier backup. So with these I know I'm secure. I just used them in the uintas, and was able to pound them in with a rock in fairly hard dirt (could only push them in an inch or so by hand), and they worked great. The fluke style is perfect, and holds really well. The cord loop makes it easy to pull out when you pack up, and though they might seem a tad spendy, I'd still recommend them to go along with any tent purchase, just like a footprint.

great "everything" harness

Black Diamond Momentum AL Harness

Black Diamond Momentum AL Harness

Rating for this product: 5 June 3, 2011

So I've grown out of my 20 year old Petzl harness, and this looked like a nice option. I love the adjustable leg loops, partly because it's easy to put the harness on over any clothing you might be wearing, but mostly because I don't feel like I'm trying to wiggle into really tight underpants like it was with my fixed leg loops. Also, this has a real haul loop on the back, 4 gear loops, and it's the perfect balance between comfort, light weight, and affordability.

Wild Country Ropeman Ascender

Wild Country Ropeman Ascender

Rating for this product: 5 June 3, 2011

This little dude is so small, and potentially hugely handy for so many applications, I just had to get it. If you're like me, and dabble in any type of mountaineering, and river running, this belongs clipped to your life jacket just as much as dangling from your rock rack. While not a proper jumar, with a big carabiner attached, it performs just as good, and properly aligned for hauling, it works just as well too. I wouldn't have this as my primary device for any long aid routes, but if you're looking for something for the occasional prussik type of application, you will barely notice this on your rack, or in your river rescue box, and it's much better than rigging a regular prussik, especially with wet ropes.

Black Diamond Nylon Sewn Runners

Black Diamond Nylon Sewn Runners

Rating for this product: 5 June 3, 2011

No rack is complete without a few runners and some spare 'biners. Whether you're setting a belay, desperately run-out, and need to girth hitch a chicken head for protection, or just need extra length on a piece to keep your rope running straight up to lessen drag, as simple as these seem, they'll always come in handy, and barely add a few ounces to your kit.

Metolius Screw-On Footholds - 20-Pack

Metolius Screw-On Footholds - 20-Pack

Rating for this product: 4 May 17, 2011

I'm going to start at 4 stars as I haven't been using these too long yet, Going off of the only review posted, I did notice these were on the fragile side when they showed up, so I did some tinkering on the install. Here's what you do. Get some Gorilla tape at Home Depot, it's the best duct tape on the market, you'll be using it for making micro-bushings for this application, and if you don't have one, buy a utility knife too.
Put a piece of tape across the bottom of the hold, cross cut where the holes are, and use a screw to push the tabs into the hole. Then place the hold where it should go, mark, and drill the pilot holes. Then put a piece of tape on the wall where the hold will go. Next step, using 1/2 inch pieces of tape, make washers for the screws by sticking 2 pieces of tape together, cross hatch the center just small enough for the screw to go through, and you have your washer. Then, just put the hold on the wall, line up the holes with the pilot holes, thread the washer on the screw, and with a HAND! screwdriver, screw the hold to the wall, gently torquing each screw back and forth until it is snug. Then with the knife, trim the edges of the tape bushing away, and you're almost done. After a few weeks, try to snug the screws a little bit, as the backing wood may have shrunk, or expanded depending on humidity, and you should be good. It's painstaking, but always drill pilot holes, and use a hand screwdriver to screw them on.

nice shoe for most anything

La Sportiva Nago Vibram XS Edge Climbing Shoe

La Sportiva Nago Vibram XS Edge Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 May 17, 2011

These are intended to adjunct, and possibly replace my old asolos I've had for close to 20 years, and resoled twice. Not into the big technical climbs so much anymore, I got these to use for mostly playing around on old familiar sport and trad routes, and so far I'm pleased with them, they fit true to size, breathe well, and they lace, which I love, because with laces, you can really fine tune the fit for your foot to get the ultimate tightness, while not putting too much pressure across the top of your foot as can be the case with velcro. The only downside I'll mention, but not ding a star point on is that these are really light weight in the mid-sole, so no good for walking much further than over to your real shoes to change them. Not a huge deal, but If you find yourself atop a high exposed ridge after a route, and have to boogy as the thunderstorm is beginning to pound down around you, these aren't going to be fun to run over scree and talus in. No climbing shoe is good at that, but my Asolo mid-tops have certainly given me the support and stability in the past, so like any footwear, it's good to have an alternate in your quiver. These Nago's are definitely a good starting point if you're looking for a nice semi-sturdy all around shoe to start with, and they're a more nimble pair if you already have a nice beefy pair.

CAMP USA Orbit Express Nylon Quickdraw - 5 Pack

CAMP USA Orbit Express Nylon Quickdraw - 5 Pack

Rating for this product: 5 May 17, 2011

It is usually the case where buying quickdraw sets is cheaper than getting everything separate, and putting it together yourself, and these are nice ones. They come assembled with one straight gate, one bent, and both biners are key gates (no notch and pin) which is my new standard, as I've always hated the notch as it tends to snag on runners, cords and webbing right when you don't want it to. Because if you're like me, and dabble between sport and trad routes, your quickdraw biners eventually get mixed into other combinations of longer runners and slings depending on the route, and the biners in these sets are awesome for anything.

Brunton Echo Zoom Monocular 10-30x21

Rating for this product: 4 May 10, 2011

This little guy is great for anything you would need binoculars for. I only ding it 1 star because while the zoom is powerful, you almost need to mount it to a tripod to keep it steady. Just holding it is fine until it is zoomed about half way. However, the field of view and clarity is superb when zoomed out. For the price, and application, you can't beat it.

Sterling PowerCord Cordelette - 6mm

April 26, 2011

I believe you can if your hex nuts have holes big enough to use this cord, without modifying the nut holes. And never put cord next to cable when putting cord as the attachment point for a hex nut! that should be an obvious point. The advantage of using cord in a hex nut is the matter of being able to customize the length of sling from anchor to rope attachment point. This is a key point when determining how the load (you falling), etc. actually hits the protection point i.e. on a very zig-zag route, or one with deeper protection points, taking care to align the rope in a straighter line will ultimately make all protection anchor points safer by keeping them aligned as to how they were placed. I've found that the larger the hex nut, the longer the cord should be. About an inch per size, make sure you tie a triple fisherman knot, and keep the knot midway between nut and attachment bight in the cord.

perfect size table

Kelty Deluxe Roll-Top Table

Kelty Deluxe Roll-Top Table

Rating for this product: 5 April 17, 2011

I've always wanted a rolla table, but thought I'd give this a try instead, and really like it. Used this for the first time tailgating at the drag races in Vegas, and you can put out a nice spread on it. Where it seems another square rolla tabel is always needed, this one makes for the perfect amount of space. When packed, it stows easily whether in the trunk, on your boat, or anywhere else while enroute to your next adventure. The carry strap on the bag is adjustable, so packing it over to the beach, or just out to your backyard is a breeze. If you're looking for a table for camping, and tailgating, this one does the job of 2 smaller square ones, sets up quick, and packs easy.

KEEN Newport H2 Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 17, 2011

so far, I'm really enjoying these. at first, they were a bit tight, but as they've stretched out a bit, they fit perfect. I recently spent a 15 hour day in them at Disneyland with the family. While it wouldn't seem a good testing ground, I was impressed with how little my feet hurt after standing and walking almost the entire time. I was also wearing the ultra lightweight backcountry socks, and that combo is ideal for keeping my feet feeling dry, and cool in the sandals at the same time.

nice jacket for rain, etc.

Marmot Aegis Jacket - Men's

Marmot Aegis Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 26, 2011

Here's a jacket that fills a lot of different skills. One, it's affordable for a nice shell with taped seams, next is the retractable hood, this is good for a lot of things, especially if it starts raining and you delay hood deployment. Jackets with the hood dangling usually turn into rain pails. Great if you're thirsty, but terrible when you want to stay dry and pull the hood over your head only to get a cold shower. And for a no frills jacket, Marmot didn't forget to give a nice touch of micro fleece around the neck for that cozyness factor we all love. the sleeves are just baggy enough to layer heavy underneath if needed, and the pockets are big enough to hold a pair of climbing skins for lapping powder in the backcountry. rolled up tight, it's just smaller than a nalgene bottle, and weighs about the same as an empty one. Don't go bashing in the woods with this, but properly handled, this is a great jacket for your outdoor needs, no matter what the season.

Rating for this product: 5 January 21, 2011

So if you're looking for an affordable, do everything compass, this one is perfect. I've used the Silva pro for years, and this one does even more, and is simpler in taking bearings since you can use the small mirror to line up your bearings. The 2 inclinometers are really nice, a must for staying safe in avalanche terrain. And if you're like most people who don't use a compass everyday, the little cheat sheets that pack behind it under the protective case will keep your skills intact when you really need to remember how the functions all tie together.

Best Goggles.... Ever!

Smith Knowledge OTG Turbo Fan Series Goggles

Smith Knowledge OTG Turbo Fan Series Goggles

Rating for this product: 5 December 28, 2010

While a bit on the spendy side, these things are the best if you ever find yourself hiking in a storm, especially on the leeward side of the ridge. I've had these on with the foam soggy with sweat, and the lens stays clear. The trick is to turn it on before you start hiking. The batteries last forever, I've even left them on overnight, and they're still blowing, so you just use the fan as much as is necessary without worrying if they'll die on you. If the low setting is barely noticeable then it's time to replace it. I was so glad to have these last week patrolling, with 90" of snow in 4 days, and warm temps, these were the ticket to clear vision through lots of slogging.

Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Sleeping Pad - Rectangular

Rating for this product: 5 September 24, 2010

I just used this on a weekend in the windrivers. When I got it, I compared it to my 3/4 length thermarest, only to find they are about the same size.... rolled up! And the weight difference is negligible, but the comfort is amazing, and it's like a sleep # bed. Blow it up firm, and then while lying on it, adjust the pressure to comfort. I did this in an impressive storm, with rain pelting the tent, and the feeling of total cozyness is indescribable. No more rolling out that 3/4 length thingy, I'm gonna sleep fat and happy from here on out!

Rating for this product: 5 September 24, 2010

This thing is sweet, only used it once so far camping in Moab 2 weeks ago with the wife, and our 2 labs. One big, and one medium size, and we all slept comphy even with the big one sprawling a bit like he likes to. Having the 2 doors and vestys is a big plus. We combined this tent with 2 Big Agnes air core 2.5" / 78" /25" pads, and its just like being home on the old serta with room to spare. I would recommend this combo as the 2 pads, and tent weigh in at just over 12 lbs total, and the comfort to weight ratio is tremendous, gonna try it out backpacking soon, and hopefully get to run it through a good weather test.

These boots (albeit spendy) are just about the best. They ski in the resort well, are super light, articulate while hiking well, and with the interchangeable sole pieces, they should be the last boot I buy for years and years. And I work in them patrolling +/- 120 days a year. the only issue was a narrow liner, but i didn't get them thermofitted, the easier solution for now was to put my comfy garmont tele liners in them, which fit my wider foot. They still ski great with that modification, if not better.
