Columbia Waypoint II Shell - Men's

December 30, 2009

The chin guard goes up about an inch over the chin if you're keeping your head level. I think it would be a great jacket for what you need it for.

Pretty good jacket all round

Columbia Waypoint II Shell - Men's

Columbia Waypoint II Shell - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 30, 2009

I haven't worn this in a real downpour so I can't tell you about how well it does waterproof-wise. BUT I did wear this out in the snow a couple of times and it works great. I've also worn this shell running and it does a pretty good job although in both cases, you get a fair amount of moisture build-up on the interior of the jacket even with the armpit vents open.

It's light, the pockets are great and the hood is very good visibility-wise.

I recommend it as a good medium wet-weather jacket. Works great with layers in the cold (down to 25 F) and is excellent as a top layer in warmer temperatures.

good winter boots

Sorel Conquest Boot - Men's

Sorel Conquest Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 30, 2009

I live in Boston so there's not a lot of deep snow around. However, there ARE deep snow banks after everyone shovels their sidewalks. These boots were ideal for dealing with snow and with the drifts of snow/slush and water that you have to deal with in the aftermath of a storm.

The traction on these things is great and the waterproof/warmth factors are extremely high. Good, comfortable boots. They're a bit stiff in the sole for regular walking around but I think they'll probably soften up a bit.

The gaiters are a little vestigial but if you wear them with snowpants then nothing gets in.

I liked the fit on these boots but my feet are a little wide after living in Hawaii for several years and not wearing shoes.
