SmartWool NTS Midweight Crew - Men's

February 10, 2012

Hey, Joey. I'm 6'3 and 180. I went with an XLrg in this mid weight. Usually arc-teryx, mountain hard wear, patagonia fit me well (2 of the most expensive, figures...). Hope that helps.

No slippage

Patagonia Tech Web Belt

Patagonia Tech Web Belt

Rating for this product: 5 January 7, 2012

I usually don't buy this style of belt because it tends to slip, but this guy takes a bite and doesn't let go until you say so. I am a size 32' waist and this belt had about 7 inches of play left over so I cut about 3.5 inches off to shorten the tail. Good buy.

Tailored fit for Mr. Lanks

Arc'teryx Distressed Bird T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 7, 2012

I'm 6'3 / 180 and it's always tough to find t-shirts that fit without making me look either wimpy thin or try too hard. I went with a Lrg. in brown and this guy is long enough in the torso and short enough in the sleeves. I love the fit. I would buy a few more if they weren't so pricey. The the black tag on the left sleeve is a nice tough to the plain front. Back design is snazzy as well.

Timex Ironman Sleek 150-Lap Tapscreen Watch - Full-Size - Men's

Timex Ironman Sleek 150-Lap Tapscreen Watch - Full-Size - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 7, 2012

Dual time zone is handy. Multiple alarms and timer all easy to navigate. Simple, straightforward, practical. Big and easy to read face. It doesn't have all the detailed info. of the Global, but for a fraction of the price it'll help you stay up to date whilst you get wherever you're going.

Stoic Breaker Fleece Hooded Jacket - Women's

Stoic Breaker Fleece Hooded Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 December 29, 2011

I bought this for my gf for xmas and after several days it has lost its glow. The left side hood-adjusting-bungee snapped when she tried to adjust the hood. Also, i had my shell on top of her jacket in the car for a few hours and the velcro from my jacket tore up the seams and materrial of her stoic and it looks really worn in some spots, especially the seams (1 week old!). Besides that, it is not "toasty warm" as described; its not warm at all. If she had one main complaint about this jacket, it is that it does not keep you warm even in cool temps 50F.

She loves the color, but has declared it impractical. Returning to BC in t-minus 3, 2, 1.

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir All-Season Sleep Pad

December 15, 2011

Should I trust this pad for sleeping on wooden planks in AT shelters for months on end? I need comfort, insulation and weight-saving, but packed in a durable shell, is this it?

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Sleeping Pad

December 15, 2011

This is probably not a good idea for sleeping on wooden planks (AT shelters), no? I am thinking the Pro-lite would be a better choice, it has a higher r-value and although 1.5' thick vs. 2.5', it is much more resistant to puncturing. Any suggestions, confirmations?

Leeches Your Back On the Trails

GoLite Lite-Speed Pack - Men's - 2135cu in

GoLite Lite-Speed Pack - Men's - 2135cu in

Rating for this product: 4 July 27, 2011

This pack can cling to you so if you'd like a nice backcountry, adventure racing, or ultra-light backpacking bag, this is your go-to. The bottom of the bag has two cinches that you can use to reduce what bagginess the side straps don't tie down.

Overall, it has size (I have the L), something like 35 Liters which is nice for a daypack or ultra light backpacking. The side ties fit my sleeping pad mat on one side an tent on other. Inside I fit my synthetic bag, food and gear. The waist belt has a pocket on each side big enough for map, gps, energy bars, etc. The sternum strap has a whistle which I like since my whistling skills aren't the greatest and the end of the movie Titanic should be a lesson for everyone.

My reason for 4 stars is that the zippers are not bulky enough and they get caught on the overhanging material meant to prevent water from leaking in. If it weren't for the zippers and perhaps the lack of dividers in the main compartment I'd give this guy cinco estrellas.

Frosbite in Autumn!?

Icebreaker Glove 320

Icebreaker Glove 320

Rating for this product: 2 November 7, 2010

I originally thought merino wool=happy feet, and this rationale carried over to my front paws. Sadly, a recent trail run in 45 degrees and 10 mph. winds left my hands and wallet slamming my decision making process. In short, keep searching, these are not the guys you're lookin' for.
