Mountain Hardwear Typhoon Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2009

I am a 33" waist & size M/M reg - fits perfectly! Super light & small. Actually the short boot zips don't bother me as I always take my boots off. Perhaps a small pocket would add value/versatility to this item - although I don't think its essential.

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Hooded Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2009

If my sleeping bag wasn't as good as it is then I'd sleep in this jacket for sure. comfortable and as compact as you could ever hope for. At -7 deg C with only a base layer underneath, this kept me warm. Adjustable sleeves and waist stretchy is perfect to keep a snug fit.

Arc'teryx Beta AR Pant - Men's

Arc'teryx Beta AR Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 10, 2009

the quality looks first class and the waterprood side leg zips are perfect, they zip from top down (ventilation) and bottom upwards for fitting. The articulated knees are more than sufficient - you can almost do a squat without any chauffing on the knees. They are light and there is no added fabric for anything other than to keep you dry and free from wind. A bigger pocket would have been usefull, but these would be a perfect outer layer.

The fit aound my waist seemed a little tight (maybe too much pudding!), leg length seems ok, maybe a little long - so not sure if I got the sizing mixed up. Cant wait to get out and test them.

I couldnt have expected a higher quality product!

Sports Science Lab on your wrist

Suunto t6c Heart Rate Monitor

Suunto t6c Heart Rate Monitor

Rating for this product: 5 November 1, 2009

I've used other sports watches with hr monitors before, but the t6c is simply a notch above the rest. I have used mine everyday for about 1.5 years now and have logged every training session and race - from monitoring and analysing your breathing, VO2 max, calories, hr, altitude, speed, distance, etc, to programming or adjusting the display on the move to see stats & readings - it simply blows your mind! One the most useful bits of info provided is the 1-5 scale on the right hand side of the display - this will tell you how hard you are exercising relative to your level of fitness - simply put it is another tool other than your heart rate to judge & montitor how hard you should be pushing it - because often with endurance events if you go out to hard or fast you will blow later! This PC on wrist helps you understand your body, when your bodies immune system is down, this will pick it up and you will notice it in the readings that your body is reacting differently to normal - it helps to nail flu & the like at the onset. Only draw-back is that it records a limited amount info (I think around 12 hours of data capturing) before you need to download and free-up memory space - this isn't normally a problem as it isn't often that I am away from my pc for longer than 12 hours of training. When participating in multi-stage endurance events then this becomes a issue - simple way around it is to record the data manually before clearing up memory space. I've used this on trekks, surfski & mtb races and it has never failed me.

Petzl e+LITE Emergency Headlamp

Petzl e+LITE Emergency Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 October 31, 2009

I've used this around the camp fire, in my tent reading or surfski paddling at night in the sea. I cant remember when last I held a torch in my hand - this thing is waterproof & robust and when out at sea in the dark transmits a powerful beam or flashes of light which can be seen from a long way off. The protective cover box is a bonus. Worth its weight in gold!

Hydro Photon SteriPEN Adventurer Handheld Ultraviolet Water Purifier

Hydro Photon SteriPEN Adventurer Handheld Ultraviolet Water Purifier

Rating for this product: 5 October 31, 2009

I was so frustrated with this thing when i first bought it, that I left it behind on one of my trekks and settled for using water purification tablets. 6 months later I pulled it out again and it didn't work, so i searched for the instruction manual and followed the simple instructions and it WORKED and hasn't stopped working since. Quick, safe, durable and reliable. Won't go anywhere without it now. This item is a close second to my Salomon shoes.

Salomon SpeedCross 2 Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 31, 2009

These are the best shoes I have ever owned! they fit like a glove & are super light. When the soles wear out, I won't bother looking for a more recent model! When I go camping these are the first item ticked off the gear list. Salomon have found a real winner with this shoe.

CamelBak Velocity Hydration Pack - 2.1L

CamelBak Velocity Hydration Pack - 2.1L

Rating for this product: 5 October 31, 2009

Used this camelbak on a 8 day multi stage mtb race and it was as reliable and as comfortable as my bike. Easy to refill en-route and simple to clean & wash for next day. Enough space to store bike spares/essentials and energy bars & gels. I have since stopped using bottles and now strap this to my back whether its a 2 hr or 5 hr ride. I've come off the bike a number of time now with this pack on and not only has it survived the impacts, but protected my back as well.

Mountain Hardwear WindStopper Tech Pant - Men's

October 3, 2009

Are these pants waterproof? If not could you suggest what I can wear (layers?) to combat bot wet & wind in sub-zero Nepal trekks. Your advice would be appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Ed
