CW-X Insulator Stabilyx Tight - Women's

November 30, 2011

Hello There. The CW-X Insulator tights do well at temperatures below about 40 degrees. Everyone deals with cold differently, but the tights can be used in below freezing temps, as long as the wind is not super bad. There is a wind blocking panel on the quads which does a great job blocking the wind. The rest of the fabric on these tights is designed to adjust how much heat is real eased based on use. So for example if you are just starting out and your body temp is cold, the tights will trap your body heat until your body warms up to around 80 degrees. This is optimum operating body temp for athletics. Once the threshold is reached, the tight releases heat, keeping you at a steady temp. This minimizes the hot and sweaty vs wet/cold situations. Good luck!

CW-X Stabilyx Tight - Men's

November 30, 2011

Richard- The tights themselves do a great job accommodating a wide range of body types and they will stretch outwards to fit larger legs and calves well. However, the height is the important factor. I would recommend a size medium for you. I bet the tights will fit correctly between your knee and your waist. However you may have some extra length at your ankle which is not a big deal at all. Good luck.

Joyce- The CW-X sizing runs by height and weight. If your nephew is somewhere between 5'5 and 5'9 and somewhere between 130-150 lbs, he would be a size small.
Hope this helps.

Jared-

Did you make the purchase yet? If not, you can definitely go with either size. I am 5'11 and 165 and I wear a medium. I have slightly skinnier legs and if I went to a large the tights just feel slightly looser. However if you had big quads, hamstrings, calves, etc you would be best served with a large. Good luck

Jeff- These will definitely work for you for Winter time riding. If you plan to be out in anything between 35 degrees and below, you may want to check out the Insulated version of the Versatx tight. The coolmax non insulated is best for anything above 38-40 degrees, etc.

CW-X Expert Tight - Women's

November 30, 2011

Hi Jennifer-

Did you already settle on a pair? You can actually go either way on the size. If you have strong legs and quads, I would recommend the medium. If your legs are skinny, then I would recommend the small. But honestly, either size would work for you. In the small, you would just have a slightly larger gap between your ankle and the bottom of the tights. Good luck!

Hey There. Your brother is in between sizes. If he has really skinny legs then go for the medium. Otherwise go with large.
I am 5'11 and 163 and I wear a Medium. However most people that are over 175lbs, we typically recommend a large size. Especially if they have strong/big legs. Good luck.

October 30, 2011

Hey Layne-
Getting a small pro tight is a great option for you. Being 5'10 you may have a small gap between the bottom of the tight and your ankle. But that is perfectly OK. The support web in the Pro tight gives the best support out of all the CW-X tights for smaller legs. YOu will love them.
Good luck.

Moises- Based on your weight and Waist size, I would recommend a large. Anything smaller may fit too tight in the hips and waist. For hot temperatures, I would also recommend looking at the CW-X ventilator Tight and Ventilator Short. Those styles have strategically placed mesh venting panels that help cool hot areas of the leg, quad, and calf. Good luck!

CW-X Stabilyx Reflective Tight - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 13, 2011

Hi Everyone-
Please note, this new 2011 reflective version of the CW-X Stabilyx Tight is almost exactly the same as the existing version. You can read reviews here. http://www.backcountry.com/cw-x-stabilyx-tight-womens-cwx0033
The main new feature is what CW-X calls 360 degree reflective. There are 4 strategically placed reflective flash strips on the tights that show up at night and in the early AM during those early morning or night runs. Check these new Reflective Stabilyx Tights out and if you already own a pair of the old ones, maybe think about getting an additional pair for running at dusk and dawn. Cheers.

CW-X Insulator Stabilyx Tight - Men's

September 8, 2011

I know your question was a long time ago. MY suggestion is you look at the Performx or Pro tight from CW-X and you get a size Large. Because of your height, if you get a smaller size, they would pull down from your waist. By getting either the Pro or Performx Tight, you are not as limited to where your knee hits the tight, so these models will work better for you in terms of fit and support. Good luck.

Hey There. Your CW-X tights should feel like a second skin. They should not feel overly tight but definitely not too loose where you see wrinkles in the fabric. The CW-X targeted Support Web provides the targeted support to your muscles and joints without it having to be extra tight. The size large should be your correct size. I hope you are enjoying the CW-X Stabilyx.

CW-X Revolution Tight - Men's

September 8, 2010

Samuel-

If you plan to use the Revolution tight as an external layer for Running in colder weather for example, they will be too cold. In terms of thermal properties, they are a little thinner and cooler than the Coolmax version of the tights. The CW-X Revolution Tight is perfect for early fall running where it's cold in the shadows but warm in the sun. For use below 40 degrees, I would recommend the Insulated line of CW-X tights. Or you can layer the Revolution tights under a pair of Wind blocking pants. That would still give you the support of the tight, but will protect you from colder weather.

January 6, 2010

Hi Amy- Good question. My first inclination is to recommend a Men's large. However, I'm afraid that the knee portion will slide down too much based on your height. One option is to look at the Men's CW-X Performx Tights. On this model it's not as necessary to osition the knee cap in exactly the right place. So this may work for you and you will still get Medial and Letral knee support, IT band support and hip support. Hope this answers your question.

Hi There. I would recommend a size Small 3/4 Stabilyx tights to you. I use the 3/4 version for all snow activities- Alpine, Tele, Snowboarding, etc. I position the tights correctly on my knee and then I hike my ski sock over the bottom end of the 3/4 tight. This keeps the tight in place and prevents bunching. The 3/4 design also helps keep bulk out of your ski boots. Good luck.

CW-X Stabilyx Tight - Men's

January 6, 2010

Joe- Good question. The CW-X Support tights are designed to stretch and to accommodate a range of heights and weights. The most important spec is the distance from your knee to your waist. For some people like me, most of my height is in my upper body. So my legs are fairly short. I am 5'11 and 175 and I wear a Medium. In your case, I would recommend a size Large Mens. I think at 5'9 you can still get the correct positioning of the knee area and the tights will still sit comfortably on your waist. Another option is to look at the CW-X Performx Tight. I think Backcountry is sold out at the moment, but this tight has medial and Lateral knee support and it's not as important to position the knee in the right spot. The Performx tight works very well for people that are tall and skinny or a little shorter. I hope you find a good solution.

CW-X Insulator Stabilyx Tight - Men's

December 17, 2009

Adrian- Based on your height and weight, you are really between Large and XL. However, if you have big legs and hips I would go for the XL. If you have skinny legs, you can go for the large and you will have a gap between the bottom of the tight and your ankle area which is fine. Also, if most of your height is in your upper body, go for the large. The CW-X Stabilyx tight is a non insulated Coolmax material that wicks moisture very well but will not protect you against cold wind for example. The Insulated Stabilyx Tight is made of a slightly thicker material called Auto Sensor that is more thermal in cold temps. They also have a stretch wind blocking panel on the quads to protect from cold wind. The supprt system in both the non insulated Stabilyx tights and the Insulated version is the same. Good luck with your Marathon training.

December 17, 2009

Hi There. That's a good question. You have a 24" band size? So you are extremely thin through the band area but you have broad shoulders? My recommendation is to size up one size from what you normally wear in a normal athletic shirt. So if you wear size small Nike work out shirt for example, I would get a Medium Web support top. The tops needs to fit like a second skin. Not too constricting and definitely not too loose.

December 17, 2009

Hi There. The CW-X Stabilyx Tight is a great product for overall support around the knee, lower back, and HIps. However For IT band specific support, you will want check the Performx Tights which Backcountry stocks also. The CW-X Performx Tights were specifically designed for medial and lateral knee support, quad support, and IT band support that stretches from the hips down to the calf area. The IT support band on the Performx tights is wide and hits the right sports for IT issues. At 5'4 and 115 you are between XS and Small. If you have strong legs (not skinny) and you carry some of your weight in the hips and glutes, go for the Small. If you are skinny through the legs/hips/waist, then go for the XS. Good luck.

BC's in POW- Unbelievable

Atomic Bent Chetler Ski

Atomic Bent Chetler Ski

Rating for this product: 5 December 17, 2009

Hey, after skiing the Atomic BC's all early season in hard-pack and loving them, I finally had a few POW days the other week. 6 inches of fresh never felt more fun! The rockered tip and tail really makes a difference in how the skis flow in Pow and broken chop. You just feel like you can float and power through anything. So fun! I've skied other wide skis for the last few seasons that have full camber underfoot like the Sumo, Scott P4. But the Atomic BC's have really taken my skiing into a new direction. The BC's are the most versatile ski I have ever been on and skiing them in pow is unbelievable!
I highly recommend this ski for an all around one quiver ski.

Hi Jess- My suggestion is to take a look at the Men's Insulated Stabilyx 3/4 Tight. IT's the one most of our team skiers use. It ends just above the ski boot, but still gives support to the knee area, hips, and lower back. Cuts down on fatigue over time which is great for skiing. I hike my ski sock over the end of the 3/4 tight to keep it in place and positioned properly on my leg. Works great. Check the sizing chart for the right size. It depends on your son's height and weight.

Brent- My opinion is you get the CW-X Pro tight. IT's an excellent overall support tight that will be perfect for runs and for crossfit type workouts. You can wear a pair of gym shorts over the tights also if you like. If you have skinny legs and quads then go for a Medium. If you have strong or muscular quads and legs, go for the large. You can also look at the Pro short which is the short length of the pro tight. All the support is in the core, quads, hams, lower back. CW-X makes mesh briefs for summer running under the tights, but for winter time you can probably go with a polyester brief. December 11, 2009

HI Lori- My suggestion for you is this. If you have long legs that are skinny, then I would go with the small and you will have a slight space between the bottom of the Insulates Stabilyx Tight and your ankle. This is fine as long as the knee area fits around your patella (knee cap) correctly and the waist sits comfortably around your waist. However if you have strong or full legs, then I would go up to the medium. This way you will get more length, but you will be able to fill out the medium leg area properly. I hope this info helps.

One other option is to look at the Performx Tight by CW-X. In the Performx tight, it is not as crucial to align the knee area. So you can fit the tight higher or lower on your waist if needed. The function and support is very similar to the Expert tight you are looking at. Size Large is correct, and because the tights stretch very well, they should fit a curvy figure no problem. I find that the Insulated Stabilyx Tights are really good as a baselayer in most temps except probably above 45 degrees (spring skiing). The material in the INsulated Stabilyx tights is actually temperature regulating. So if it's cold, they stay more thermal vs when it's hot the material is designed to release heat. Very cool function. I think you can't go wrong with the insulated Stabilyx for skiing as an underlayer. Also check out the 3/4 version. I use these most of the time for skiing because they end right above the boot. I hike y ski socks over the tight to keep them in place. It works great. Good luck.

One suggestion is to make sure the tights are not riding down off your waist. Tighten the drawstring if necessary. Also you can try pulling the bottom of the tight down a little to take away any wrinkles. Having a few wrinkles is OK, as long as the tight is not loose on your quads, hips, calves, etc. You should be OK with the size Small.

Atomic Bent Chetler Ski

December 2, 2009

Been skiing the BC's all season this year so far- about 20 times. Length is not a problem at all for someone that skies well. The skis are super easy to ski and on hardpack they feel short. After skiing a pair of Volkl Sumos 175cm and Scott P4's 181, I like the 184 BC's the best because they are way more stable, but feel a lot shorter when throwing them around in tight turns, bumps, etc.

Atomic Bent Chetler Ski

December 2, 2009

Hey Sam- I live in Breckenridge CO and I've been skiing hard pack(unfortunately- no new snow) on the BC's all early season. I think they are great all around skis for someone that is on the hill a lot and has skied wider skis before (wider than lets say 100cm waist). I've been skiing wide skis all around and everyday for the past two years and I think the Chetler's are the best I've skied so far. I'm coming off of Volkl Sumos and Scott P4's from past years. The ski is super stable, does short turns very well, and high speed is not a problem. Van't wait to get them in some real pow though!

Atomic Bent Chetler Ski

December 2, 2009

Hey There- I've been skiing the BC's all season this year so far. Got about 20 times out on them. Love them! MOunted on recommended Standard line which is 2.5 back of cord center. Unless you plan to ride switch a lot and land switch landings in pow, I would recommend the standard mounting spot.

CW-X Stabilyx Tight - Women's

October 26, 2009

Kathryn. Small is the right size for you. Don't worry about the bunching up behind the knee. As long as the tights are comfortable on your waist and around your quads, hips, etc you are fine. and yes, the flat internal seams do leave a little indentation in your legs. Just shows you the support/compression is working and you have a proper fit.

CW-X Insulator Stabilyx Tight - Men's

October 22, 2009

Kevin- I would definitely go with the Insulator Stabilyx tight. The material itself is a Nanotech fabric that regulates heat close to your skin depending on temperature. For example, if you are out in the AM for a run and it's 30 degrees outside, the material will form a thermal layer and prevent heat from escaping until you reach about 78 degrees at your skin surface. This is the optimal temp for muscle performance. Then the material will stat releasing heat and keeping you at that level point. So the tights don't feel hot. Also, there is a wind blocking material on the quads which is great if the cold PA winds pick. I think you will be really pleased with the Insulator Stabilyx. Plus if you ski, you can use it as a base layer for skiing. I would go with a medium for the size. Good luck.

CW-X Performx Tight - Women's

October 22, 2009

Lynn- You've picked the right tight for IT support. Since you are tall and 138lbs, you are really between two sizes. Your height calls for a Large, but if your weight points to Medium. If your height is mostly in your legs, then I would say you need a size large. Especially if you have strong, athletic legs. if your height is mostly in your upper body and your legs are skinny, I would try the medium. You may have a small gap between the bottom of the tight and your ankle, but that's ok. The tights should feel comfortable and fit like second skin. Not too tight and definitely not too loose. You know the tight is too loose on your legs if you see major wrinkles in the fabric and it's bunching up. I hope you enjoy the tights.

CW-X Ventilator Tight - Women's

October 22, 2009

Hi Emma-

The CW-X Ventilator tights were specifically designed for warmer weather. CW-X used Thermal imaging studies to see what parts of the leg get hottest during running in warmer weather. The hottest spots are around the quad because it is exerting a lot of energy during the run, and the calf muscle because it is behind the leg and does not get any airflow. So CW-X put vented mesh in those two areas of the leg in the Ventilator tight. I can tell you that by just cooling those two areas and allowing more airflow in the quad and calf, the entire leg feel more comfortable somehow. Since you get the most support out of the full length tights, I would recommend the Ventilator tight for warm weather. Good luck!

CW-X Stabilyx 3/4 Length Tight - Men's

October 15, 2009

Hi There. The 3/4 Stabilyx tight does not offer any calves support. You will have to go to the Full length version for that. The patented CW-X support web is based on Kinesio Taping techniques that trainers use to support specific muscles, create better circulation, muscle efficiency, etc. The calves support in the full length CW-X tights is very good and creates all the benefits of Kineseo taping but it's built into the garment. As Greg mentioned above, the other option is to wear the CW-X Compression support sock with a 3/4 Stabilyx Tight. I usually pull my socks just over the botom of the 3/4 tights to keep both the sock and the tight in place and aligned properly. Backcountry does not have the socks in stock yet, but you can find them online or go though the CW-X website. Good luck.

CW-X Performx Tight - Women's

October 15, 2009

Hi There. If you are in between sizes, I would go up to the larger size. Especially if you carry the weight in the tighs and hips. The tights should sit comfortably on your body and feel like a second skin. Not extremely tight. Good luck, I hope you enjoy the CW-X performx tight. It's a great product.

CW-X Insulator Stabilyx 3/4 Tights - Men's

October 15, 2009

Scott. The CW-X Stabilyx 3/4 tight is build extremely well with extra flat seams and very high stitch counts. So the durability under normal use is very good. However in wrestling I know that you are in contact with the mat a lot, and we have not had any specific testing to that extent. But I think the product itself can greatly benefit someone in your sport. I would definitely give them a try. I know we have several Mixed Martial Arts guys on our CW-X team using the product. They had great feedback for us. Good luck.

CW-X Stabilyx Tight - Men's

October 15, 2009

Hi There. Good question. You may be able to shrink the Stabilyx Tight Large down a little bit in the dryer, but not much. Keep in mind that the tights need to feel comfortable, like a second skin. Not too tight. Just having slight support and pressure in the support web will give you the benefits of the support tights. However, if the fabric is bunching up and you see wrinkles around thee quad or knee area, then the size is too large. Based on your height and weight, I would recommend a size large. If you weighed less than 170lbs and had skinny quads like me, I would recommend a Medium. Hope this info helps you.

CW-X Pro Short - Men's

October 8, 2009

Hi There. Fit is a personal preference thing, so it's tough to say if something works for one person, if it will work for another. CW-X Pro shorts are worn by Ultra marathon runners and adventure racers all across the country with great success, while other people feel chaffing in the crotch seam after an afternoon run. It's very strange. I would say that the benefits you get from wearing a support short like the Pro short are especially useful for longer runs. The patented muscle support system allows the muscles to be more efficient during movement and minimizes fatigue over time bacause your muscles don't have to work as hard over time. The key is getting the right fit. I am 5'11 and 168lbs. I wear a medium short and tight. Anyone over 6'1 or over 175 lbs should be in a large. The shorts fit snug but not too tight. They feel very supportive and I have never had any chafing issues in the crotch seam. Sometimes wearing a thin sport brief under the tights or shorts helps also. Good luck!

CW-X Performx Tight - Women's

October 8, 2009

Hi There. That's a tough one. CW-X products are anatomically designed to specifically fit Men's or Women's frames. However at this time CW-X is not making a Women's XL which is probably the size that you need. My wife is 5'11 and she wears our Men's Large size. The CW-X Performx tight would work best for you because it is not as essential to get the knee cap in the right place like it is in The Stabilyx Tight for example. In the performx tight, you will get good support and targeted compression on the sides of the knees, the quads, hips, and IT band. They are great tights. I would try the men's Large and see how they feel.

CW-X Stabilyx Tight - Men's

October 8, 2009

Hi There. For warmer climates I would consider the CW-X Ventilator Tight- Specifically designed for warm climates) or the CW-X 3/4 Stabilyx Tight. The correct fit is important. The tights should feel like a second skin. Not too tight but definitely not too loose. If they are too loose, the support structure will not work properly. You will know if the tight is too big if the fabric bunches up and has major wrinkles around the knee and the quad area.

CW-X Stabilyx Tight - Men's

October 8, 2009

Hi There. I think I can answer your question. There is no difference in the type of support you will get between the CW-X Stabilyx tight and the CW-X Insulator Stabilyx tight. The main difference is in the fabric. The non insulated Stabilyx tight is constructed of Coolmax which is a great overall athletic material that breathes and wicks away moisture. The Insulator version is made from a proprietary nano-tech Temperature regulating material called Autosensor. This material feels slightly thicker than coolmax and has a brushed micro fleece feet on the inside. The Autosensor material is designed to sense the temperature outside vs your skin temperature. If your skin temperature is cold, the material forms a thermal barrier and traps heat while you warm up. Once the temp reaches about 81 degree F the material starts releasing heat keeping you at an optimal temperature during exercise. The other main difference in the tights is that the Insulator Stabilyx Tight has wind blocking material on the quads. Great for colder or more windy days. Bottom line is that now we are in October, the Insulated Stabilyx Tight may offer you enough temperature flexibility but you will be able to use it once the temps get cold. Also it's a great underlayer for Snowsports like Skiing, snowshoeing, Tele, etc. Hope this helps.

CW-X Expert Short - Women's

September 23, 2009

JoAnn- Just saw your question..... The CW-X Expert shorts do not have a set inseam. Because this is a stretch product, the short is designed to position itself differently depending on the exact body type and shape you have. The short is designed to be longer than traditional shorts by a little bit because it is designed to support the quad. So typically the short will stop right above your knee area on the quad. Hope that helps.

CW-X Stabilyx Tight - Women's

September 23, 2009

Debbie- Just saw your question now. CW-X Tights are not specifically sold as a medical grade compression product. However, the patented CW-X support Web on the tights does offer a targeted support and compression benefit. To answer your question directly, the areas of the tight that do not have the Support web have a 15-20 mmHg rating. The support web has a 20-25 mmHg rating. so what you get is a more targeted type of support and compression where the muscles are rather than overall compression of the entire leg. This is key in athletics where you want the support and compression in the key muscle areas but not all around. Hope this helps you. We have had many customers who greatly benefit from the design and function of the CW-X Tights.

CW-X Stabilyx Tight - Women's

September 21, 2009

Hi Joyce. If you haven't done so already, I would get a size Med. They need to fit like a second skin. Not too tight and definitely not too loose. You are right in between our size S and M. In cases like this, we usually size up. You may have some extra length on your ankle area, but as long as the knee is positioned properly and the waist sits in the right place, you will be fine.

CW-X Stabilyx Tight - Women's

September 21, 2009

Hi There- Here is my response to another customer..... I would go with the Stabilyx Tight for overall performance.

Hello there. Very good question. Did you use our tights finder on CW-X.com? and you did not get the answers you were looking for? Anyhow, the CW-X Stabilyx tight is our best Stability tight that supports Knees, Lower back, Hips, and Quads and is best for high impact activities that have a lot of movement from side to side. For example Trail running, Skiing, Hiking, etc. The Pro tight works best for constant motion activities that are not as high impact. For example Road running, Nordic skiing, etc. The pro tight does not have the knee support like in the Stabilyx, but it does offer more Hamstring support. Versatx is a softer support system that only focuses on Hips and lower abs. The performx tight is new and focuses on support through the IT band specifically. it only offers medial and lateral knee support (just on the sides of the knee). The Stabilyx tight is the best all around tight if you plan to use it for a variety of activities as a base layer or an outer layer. Hope this helps answer your question.

Hi Emily- The CW-X Ultra Sport Bra is a great bra. We just recently added a 34 band in B/C, D, or DD cups (white color only). Feedback from women is that our bras fit one band size smaller than a traditional lingerie bra. so if you are wearing a 32D in a regular bra, the 34D or 34 DD would work fine for you. I see that Backcountry doesn't have the 34D or 34DD in stock, but I'm sure if you conact a gear expert, they could probably have one special ordered for you.
