Salomon Shogun Ski

February 28, 2012

The Shogun is pretty stiff and has a lot of camber. It has a long radius and needs some speed to come alive. They are more more forgiving than something with metal like my Kendos, but on harder snow take more work to get the tails to slide around through tight spots and bumps. More of a charger than a carefree messing around ski in my opinion. Fairly light with lots of snap. I generally prefer my i-rocks in anything more than 3" fresh. hope this helps.

Volkl Gotama Ski

October 28, 2011

I was in the same boat last year looking to replace my cambered goats. I demoed both twice, day 1 hardpack day 2 6" of fresh. The gotama is better in pow and is easy to pivot thru bumps and trees but the full reverse camber just doesn't seem right for an every day ski. Both are very stable and the shogun has more pop and liveliness. More camber in the shogun felt better for the groomers and stability in crud. They both like long turns and prefer higher speed. Another ski to consider is the liberty helix which I wasn't able to demo late in the season. I tried the 178 gotama and bought 182 shoguns. Both were the right length for me 5'9" & 170.

Volkl Gotama Ski

January 27, 2011

My 08/09's had something like that too. i took the backwoods approach with an old iron set at a fairly high temp. just got it hot and smashed it down the best i could back into the ski. I got it mostly flush with the base, then took it to the shop for a full base grind.
