Decent Hat - Too Much Strap

Mountain Hardwear Hardwear Hat

Mountain Hardwear Hardwear Hat

Rating for this product: 3 June 7, 2010

The hat is comfortably, the only real complaint I have is the extra strap material around the rear buckle. Once you adjust it, there's nowhere to slide the extra material. So it ends up just laying there like a tail...I ended up wrapping it around the strap, but still looks a little goofy from the back.

Super Comfortable

prAna Micro Stripe Pullover Fleece - Men's

prAna Micro Stripe Pullover Fleece - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 18, 2010

This is by far one of the most comfortable fleeces I've ever owned! The fit is great, it's not a super warm fleece by any means, but for a light fleece for either a relaxing hike or just chilling around the house, it's perfect. I will be buying more!

A little damp

Outdoor Research Verglas Gaiter - Men's

Outdoor Research Verglas Gaiter - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 17, 2010

I went with these over the Gor-Tex ones more for price than anything else. They do a great job of keeping the snow out for snowshoeing, but they do build up moisture on the inside of them from sweating. Not so much that you're drenched, but there definitely wet when you take them off. Overall, awesome for winter hiking, but I would probably drop the extra money and get the more breathable Got-Tex if you're planning on using them in the summer.

Fantastic Snowshoe

Atlas 10 Series Snowshoe

Atlas 10 Series Snowshoe

Rating for this product: 5 February 17, 2010

This is my first snowshoe, so I really have nothing to compare them to, but I thought they were great. Really easy to put on and walk around in. I'm 6'1" - 225lbs, so I got the 35" shoe. I was a little worried that I would have issues walking in them since they were so long, but really had no issues. Gripped great in powder and on both uphill and downhill slopes with no slipping. Highly recommend!

To Tight and Loose at the same time

Patagonia Active Brief - Men's

Patagonia Active Brief - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 February 17, 2010

If you're a guy who has big quads/thighs, these are not for you. I order the XL and it was loose around the butt area, but super tight my legs. Tight enough that they were very uncomfortable and took them off. The material seemed great, but unfortunately, I didn't even get a real chance to test them out. Gave it 2 stars for fit only.

Tested and Approved

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boxer Brief - Men's

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boxer Brief - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 17, 2010

I bought these particularly for backpacking, but wanted to test them out and see just how good they would do before I put all my trust in them on a 5 or 6 day trip. So for 7 straight nights I wore these to the gym and ran 3-5 miles. Each night when I got home, I hand washed them in cold water in the tub...not the faucet...but the filled water (trying to emulate washing them in a stream) and hung them out to dry. By the next night they were dry and ready to go and after the 7th day, no stink and still fit great! I would highly recommend these to anyone as I will definitely be buying more.

Locking Mechanism Slips

LEKI Super Makalu COR-TEC Antishock Trekking Poles - 1 Pair

LEKI Super Makalu COR-TEC Antishock Trekking Poles - 1 Pair

Rating for this product: 4 January 13, 2010

I would probably rate this a little lower, but in the end I really like these poles. They're lightweight, cool looking, the grips are great (don't get funky or slippery) and the shocks are nice. My only real complaint with these poles is the locking mechanism. One more than one occasion it slipped and the pole collapsed. Really annoying when you actually really need it and it gives way. I've never used any other poles to compare them to, but I will probably check out Black Diamonds for my next set.

A must have for a multi-day trip

Katadyn Hiker Pro Water Microfilter

Katadyn Hiker Pro Water Microfilter

Rating for this product: 5 January 13, 2010

Small, light weight, must have for any multi-day trip. We hooked ours straight into our Camelbak bladders without any hassle. Does a great job, water tasted clean without any funky bits getting through. It definitely works better in a slower stream than a really fast one. It tended to float a little too much if the waters moving really fast but all we had to do was hook the tube around a rock (or something like that) to solve that issue. Highly recommend!
