  • Stomping Grounds:

The mountains of Utah. The mountains of Oregon.
  • Bio:

I am basically a rock climber stuck in a college student's life. I mountain bike when my fingers hurt. I play guitar when my legs and my hands are too hashed.

Five Ten Anasazi Lace-Up V2 Climbing Shoe - Men's

Five Ten Anasazi Lace-Up V2 Climbing Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 3, 2009

This shoe is super comfortable, and excels on technical climbs. I was worried that it wouldn't edge as well after the sharp lip wore off the sole, but They are still edging like brand new after several months of regular climbing. The heel is a bit baggy, but it still hooks really well. I have never slipped off a heel hook in these shoes. Love 'em.

It works

Mammut Smart Belay Device

Rating for this product: 5 September 22, 2009

I can personally attest to the effectiveness of this belay. My friends and I have climbed on it quite a bit and it catches any fall easily. I personally think that lowering is easier with the Smart than with a Grigri or Cinch. Also, I prefer lead belaying with the Smart. I have some friends who prefer GriGri, but...just a matter of preference. I feel this device feeds rope easier for clipping. This is most noticeable when the climber is pulling for a clip. Overall, I like using the Smart. It is light, small and has no moving parts to worry about.

Sickle Camp 4 T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Sickle Camp 4 T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 22, 2009

I love clothes from Sickle. They fit really well and the fabric is so soft and light. And so far they seem to be lasting well. I have one shirt that has been through way too many washes in the last year and it still looks good.

Therm-a-Rest Ridge Rest Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest Ridge Rest Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 September 15, 2009

For the price, I am very satisfied with this pad. Let me first say that I can pretty much sleep anywhere and I almost never get cold. Having said that, I think this pad is great for its purpose. Its light weight and basically indestructable due to being made from closed cell foam. I feel like it gives plenty of padding for sleeping all night. I have used it in both on desert dirt and bumpy grassland. I was comfortable both places. I haven't used it in cold weather so I don't know how it insulates yet. But you can't beat the price.

Lafuma Warm'N Light

Lafuma Warm'n Light 800G II Sleeping Bag: 30 Degree Down

Lafuma Warm'n Light 800G II Sleeping Bag: 30 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 August 16, 2009

I love this bag. I am a person who detests being cold so I never camp in winter. Because of that, I don't need a bag that goes lower than about freezing. This bag does it. I am sort of a warm sleeper anyway, but I have never even had to zip this bag all the way up, even without a sleeping pad. And it packs into the tiniest little package and weighs almost nothing. I am 5'6" and the bag doesn't feel confining. It allows me a comfortable amount of room to move in. A perfect warm weather camping bag.
