lofts like crazy

Mountain Hardwear Ghost SL -40 Sleeping Bag: -40 Degree Down

Mountain Hardwear Ghost SL -40 Sleeping Bag: -40 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 4 February 7, 2011

Okay, so we have only tested it this winter .... in Florida. Hey, it's been cold for us. Glad to report this bag is a little on the warm side for a Florida winter. That being said, we purchased 2 - one for each.

The 6foot bag - regular- would probably not fit someone 6 foot. I am just shy of 5-9" and my feet touch the bottom of the bag, like it was made just for me. My husband at just over 6 foot fits the 6'6" bag nicely, my 6'8" son could still get in it, just can't straighten his legs (big shock there) I expect it will keep me toasty on my mount kili trip.

Only beef so far is since it lofts so much, extra care has to be taken to keep the zipper from snagging the material.

Doesn't add 25 degrees

Sea To Summit Thermolite Reactor Extreme Sleeping Bag Liner

Sea To Summit Thermolite Reactor Extreme Sleeping Bag Liner

Rating for this product: 2 April 21, 2010

I really hate being cold so got this liner to add warmth to my 30 degree bag. If It added 5 degrees warmth I would be surprised. Will be good at keeping the bag clean, and maybe okay on a warm Florida summer night when a bag is just too warm. Otherwise I found this useless for it's stated purpose.
It does fit nicely in the bag and doesn't restrict my movement.

Salomon Snowtrip TS WP Winter Boot - Women's

Salomon Snowtrip TS WP Winter Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 28, 2010

In my other pair of salomon boots I wear a 1/2 size larger than my tennis shoes. These were huge in that size, so they will have to go back. As usual this brand has a nice roomy toe box.

Tight in the toe box

Merrell Thermo Arc 6 Waterproof Boot - Women's

Merrell Thermo Arc 6 Waterproof Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 March 16, 2010

Nice looking warm boots, but I have a wide toe box and even though I have a pair of merrell siren ventilators, these were just too tight in the toe box. Really nice looking shoe, not sure the laces would have stayed tied.

Trading in for a pair of salomon's. Hopefully they will work.

Black Diamond Trail Trekking Pole

Black Diamond Trail Trekking Pole

Rating for this product: 5 September 25, 2009

Being an old flatlander with a herniated disc which has altered my balance, I really appreciated the assistance these poles gave me while trying to summit Mount Elbert. They gave me the extra ummphf going up hill and the balance to stay on my feet coming down. I will never hike in the mountains again without them.

MontBell Super Stretch #0 Hugger Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

September 13, 2009

The montbell hugger bags have a cinch at the bottom of the bag that allows you to shorten the bottom and get your feet all snuggly.

My understanding of down is the larger the number the more fill in the bag - The warmer it will be -800 being the best. We went to the montbell store in Boulder - these bags are the ultimate. My husband who hates a mummy bag wants this one!!
