All day shoe

Five Ten VMile Climbing Shoe

Five Ten VMile Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 July 12, 2009

My third pair of five tens and my first Velcro closure. Great for multi-pitch all day climbing. I love the light color and perforations for those hot days on hanging belays, I can leave my shoes on. I bought the same size as my street shoes and they fit perfect for all day wear (medium tightness). I have long narrow feet, I had to cut back the overhang on the Velcro to stop it sticking to my slings, all good now. Despite the performance compromise (medium tightness, foam wedge) they are currently my first choice for performance at the gym, I think it must be the rubber, my other more aggressive fitting shoes are not five ten. The real comparison will be when I get my Anasazis!

JUST THE CLIP

DMM Belay Master Clip

DMM Belay Master Clip

Rating for this product: 5 July 2, 2009

I love this biner clip, I have the old style Fat Boy. Prevents cross loading on the biner when the rope goes form slack to tight when the leader falls.
$8.50 Just the clip, biner not included. Does not work on my 2004 Petzl Attache SL, I recommend buying the DMM screw gate "fat boy".

Slick All Rounder

Mammut Tubular Dyneema 8mm Contact Sling

Mammut Tubular Dyneema 8mm Contact Sling

Rating for this product: 5 August 23, 2007

Great for everything I've encountered. From threading the lover offs on top of sports routes, to extending protection on long multi-pitch. The "Contact sling" is great; one end of the tubular webbing is tucked inside the other. This makes the sling narrower and catches on nothing when threading through anchors, and pulling off your shoulder from amongst a mass of gear. I’m buying more, before they sellout!

Z/2

Chaco Z/2 Terreno Sandal - Men's

Chaco Z/2 Terreno Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 9, 2005

I wanted an ultra stable sandal and I got it. I wore my new sandals traveling around South America. I have heard the criticism that the toe loop can tighten up uncomfortably around your big toe. This is a valid criticism, especially when walking down hill. However with a big of use and dirt the strap tend to stay put, and I found no tightening problems after that. And I was very glad for the extra stability when scrambling down some very sharp rocky slopes in Chile on the border with Bolivia. When you are walking on the flat for ages the toe loop can easy be folded down so as not to give blister on you big toe. It can be folded down if you need to put on a wetsuit sock and go white water rafting in Argentina too! Unfortunately they are a little too heavy to clip to my climbing harness. All up I highly recommend the Z/2
