The North Face Mossbud Insulated Vest - Women's

The North Face Mossbud Insulated Vest - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 December 21, 2011

I love my collection of TNF vests, but this is one I had to return. I always wear XS with room to spare, but this vest was simply too long, too tight, and too unflattering. I weigh only 105 pounds, and could barely zip this around my hips while I was wearing leggings. If the body had been shorter (hitting between waist and hip, instead of almost at crotch), it might have worked - the chest area was OK for me. I was quite sad to return this one as I loved the squid red heather color, and really liked the reversible style. I recommend the original Mossbud Acadia Vest over this one.

Needs longer sleeves!

The North Face Osito Fleece Jacket - Women's

The North Face Osito Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 21, 2011

The Osito is warm and soft, really you can't beat the feel of this jacket! But the sleeves are just too short! I always wear XS in TNF with room to spare, and the cuffs of the Osito are hitting 2 inches above my wrist bone, while being baggy in the torso. So, sizing up isn't really an option for me. I might get my local tailor to add some jersey cuffs to my Osito so I don't have chilly wrists!

FYI, I saw the new colors at Dick's, and the Juicy Red is not red at all! It is more of a coral orange. The other colors are spot on, though, at least from my monitor.

The North Face Thunder Down Jacket - Women's

The North Face Thunder Down Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 21, 2011

I'm an extremely cold-natured person, so I was pumped to get this jacket. It can keep me warm in around 25 degree weather, which is about how cold it gets where I live. There seems to be a lot of discrepancy about the "sweater" fit. I am 5ft, 105, and I thought the XS was still quite roomy and not what I would call sweater-fit. I have typically been layering it with a TKA microvelour Glacier 1/4 zip and windwall vest underneath. FYI, this jacket leaves LOTS of tiny downy feathers on my black windwall vest, which I find mildly annoying. IMO, the outer material of this jacket feels a little flimsy - like it could rip at any second. I'd prefer something more like the Redpoint Jacket for the outer material. (which I also own, and love). I got the black, but really wished I could have found the awesome Empire Blue from last year.

Cool jacket!

The North Face Apex Bionic Softshell Jacket - Women's

The North Face Apex Bionic Softshell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 30, 2011

I purchased the Apex basically because last year's black was on sale, but I found myself wondering if it had a place in my arsenal of jackets. I own TNF Thunder, Redpoint, Windwall, Venture, and Khumbu jackets too, and thought at first that I might return the Apex. Well I woke up one morning to about 60 degrees and pouring rain and I immediately reached for the Apex - it wasn't cold enough for a puffer, and I needed something warm and waterproof... It was perfect for the job of keeping me toasty and dry with no bulk! It does fit a little snug in my regular size, but I wore a thin sweater and windwall vest underneath with no problems.

The North Face Redpoint Insulated Jacket - Women's

Per the description, it will zip into TNF shells. This jacket also has the little snaps on the sleeve cuffs that you attach to the shell to keep the sleeves from scrunching up.

Can anyone compare this with the Thunder Down Jacket? I actually bought both, but can't decide which one to keep. Which one would be warmer, down or synthetic insulation?

The North Face TKA 200 Kimber Full-Zip Sweatshirt - Women's

The North Face TKA 200 Kimber Full-Zip Sweatshirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 November 23, 2011

I wasn't too impressed with this fleece for a couple of reasons. I didn't like the feel of the fleece, or the fit. It flared out much to widely at the hips (a trend I am noticing with other TNF items too). I'm a pretty hippy girl, and it was just too wide and unflattering, even at the XS size. I would recommend the Khumbu over this one.

The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Jacket - Women's

The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 23, 2011

If you wear the windwall vest and jacket together, you will be invincible! Although it doesn't really get *that* chilly in Central VA, I'm a transplant from SW Florida and have a low tolerance for the windy cold. I love the feel of the windwall fleece! Much sleeker looking than the Khumbu jacket, and I like the roomy, raglan style sleeves. Seems like there will be plenty of room for a bulky sweater or hoodie underneath. The length of XS is perfect on me, at 5ft tall - though, I still think there could have been another inch on the sleeves.

If you really want to roast, wear the Osito underneath.

They seem to collect hair like nothing else in the wash, though. *shrug*

Greatest Vest Ever!

The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Vest - Women's

The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Vest - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 22, 2011

I just bought my second Windwall vest! I got the white one last year - it is so cute I actually wear it in the office to keep warm when the AC is on blast during the summer. Works great as an outdoor layer in the cold too, but I was always scared of getting the white dirty. So, this year I got the black vest and matching jacket. :-) I got the XS, and it is a good fit, but could have been a tad bit snugger. I'm 5ft 105lbs, and really wish TNF would make XXS size runs. I'm thinking of getting the hooded version too, in a cuter color. I think the material has a lovely soft feel, but can be a little stiff at first. Washes easily, and doesn't seem to pill.

unusual combo of sporty and bookish

The North Face Borealis Backpack - Women's - 1650cu in

The North Face Borealis Backpack - Women's - 1650cu in

Rating for this product: 3 November 22, 2011

I really wanted to love this pack. I bought the squid red, and it is so cute with the pink accents! BUT - the backing is so stiff it really makes it uncomfortable to wear. The stiff backing is probably meant to pad you from the laptop rubbing against your shoulder blades, but it really makes it awkward to wear, IMO. It just seems a lot wider than my body, and I will be returning it. I also wish the waist straps were fully removable. You can tuck them in, but I would typically only use those when taking a hike through the woods... and in that scenario I would not have a laptop. I think this bag would be perfect if I could remove the stiff back and use it as more of a hiking pack rather than a book/laptop tote.

The North Face Base Camp Duffel Bag - 2560-4395cu in

The North Face Base Camp Duffel Bag - 2560-4395cu in

Rating for this product: 5 November 22, 2011

OK, I have to admit, I am a fiend for all types of bags and packs - especially duffels! I've been using simple cotton types to haul my gym clothes and gear, but they just don't hold up. I recently purchased TWO base camp duffels in the XS small size and I think they are perfect for this use. I can easily fit my gym clothes, shoes, hygiene kit, towel, and clean clothes into the bag (I am really petite, though, so that might be optimistic for some). The material seems VERY durable, and I like the squarish opening as opposed to a horizontal zipper. The XS does not have the single shoulder strap, but rather two backpack-style straps. They can be completely removed if you like. The grab handles on the ends are very convenient too.

The North Face TKA 100 Microvelour Glacier 1/4-Zip Fleece Pullover - Women's

The North Face TKA 100 Microvelour Glacier 1/4-Zip Fleece Pullover - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 22, 2011

This is one of my favorite TNF items! I bought a white one last year (2010), and its perfect for wearing around the house during cooler temps, or throwing on before/after workouts at the gym. I've purchased 4x more in this year's awesome colors! They seem exactly like last year's model - same material and cut/fit - gotta love consistency! I am 5ft, 105lbs, and the XS small is perfect.

ETA: The colors look about a thousand times better in person! I bought these online to get my sizes, but only because I'd seen 'em in the TNF store and loved the colors. Acoustic blue heather is really pretty, more of a brighter blue than the picture shows, and squid red is a lovely burgundy (not the subdued red-brown that always shows up in the pictures).
