I give a lot of high ratings not because I am easily pleased, but because I am not in the habit of writing reviews for the items I have returned, unless they were particularly disappointing.

Stoic Welder Hi Softshell Jacket - Men's

The velcro is gray, not black like the picture shows. It is the same gray as the coat.

Stoic Welder Hi Softshell Jacket - Men's

Stoic Welder Hi Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 5 days ago

Definitely better than an Arc'teryx Hercules. I can't see any way to improve this jacket other than removing the sleeve pocket, just because I'm not going to use it.

Perfectly compatible with same-size Norrona hard shells.

Bridgedale CoolMax Liner Sock - 2 Pack - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 6 days ago

Bridgedale socks are normally a 9/10 for wicking; when worn with these, they are 10/10.

4.5/5.0 - 90% as good as Light Trail Endurance

Bridgedale Endurance Trekker Sock - Men's

Bridgedale Endurance Trekker Sock - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 6 days ago

I like these, and I kept them, but they slide down my legs just a little. This is probably because they partially overlap the calf muscle, where the leg surface is more cone-shaped, whereas Bridgedale's Light Trail Endurance socks end below the calf and do not slide at all.

Seam across the knee?

Arc'teryx Rampart Pant - Men's

Arc'teryx Rampart Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 6 days ago

These pants are very well-made.

However, on my legs, a seam went right down the front of my kneecap, so I returned them.

Excellent, two suggestions

Stoic Merino Crew Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino Crew Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 12, 2009

6'0", 130 lbs, medium is perfect (although w/ thumbs in holes the sleeves would ideally be ~1 cm longer)

1. When my thumbs are in the holes, the sleeve seam runs right across my elbow. Since the thread is not nearly as nice as the wool, this is noticeable and uncomfortable with the friction caused by bending my arm. However, this is only a problem if you use the thumbholes; otherwise, you can simply rotate the seam away from the elbow.

2. The thumbholes are slightly too small for my thumbs. Seems like it wouldn't be all that bad to have slightly larger holes, even if your thumbs weren't that big.

Nice cut, mediocre wool

Backcountry.com Merino Bliss Lightweight Long Underwear Top - Men's

Backcountry.com Merino Bliss Lightweight Long Underwear Top - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 November 11, 2009

6'0", 130 lbs, the medium actually fit me.

Unfortunately, I returned it because the wool is not nice. It smells worse and itches more than other wools (e.g. Patagonia).

Patagonia R2 Fleece Jacket - Men's

Patagonia R2 Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 26, 2009

A fleece with arms as long as they should be. One complaint = there is no waist cinch.

6'0", 130 lbs, second or third layer, getting a large.

Julbo Explorer Sunglasses - Camel Anti-fog Lens

October 22, 2009

http://www.julbousa.com/lenses/

If you would actually benefit from the anti-mist treatment, there's no reason not to go for it.

For most people, however, the only noticeable difference is probably the weight: Alti lenses are glass (heavier), whereas NXTs (these) are polycarbonate (lighter). The lens tint is also slightly different: Altis have no color; Camels are slightly yellowed, apparently an attempt to restore color in "washed-out" conditions. (Just for the record, the glasses appear black when actually worn; the yellow color is only visible when the glasses are off.)

If you shop around, you can get Camels for the price of Altis and avoid the question altogether.

Norrøna Falketind Gore-Tex Pro Shell Jacket - Men's DO NOT USE

October 21, 2009

Here are (my) measurements of a medium and a large from last year (as far as I can tell, they haven't made any changes). Note that the sleeve measurements are general, due to the articulated elbows and also the fact that the sleeve is longer on the top of the arm.

I'm 6 foot, 130 pounds, and I'm going to keep the large (to have layering room). Also, do not expect the same luck with Norrona fleece - their sizing and cut is in no way similar to this shell.

Medium, Large

Sleeve from center back: 87, 89 cm
(straight down center of sleeve when laid flat; +1 cm top of sleeve, -1 cm bottom)
Front zipper length: 75, 77 cm
Back length from hood seam: 69, 71 cm

Bridgedale Endurance Trail Light Sock

Bridgedale Endurance Trail Light Sock

Rating for this product: 5 October 4, 2009

They aren't tight on the leg but don't slide down at all. Height is a bit shorter than expected but perfect for my Asolo 520's.

Update: I wore these for four days, taking them on and off a dozen times or so, then wore them for a three-mile walk---still didn't slide down at all.

Not for this price.

Backcountry.com Rime Pullover Jacket - Men's

Backcountry.com Rime Pullover Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 October 3, 2009

The material just isn't flexible, and the hem is too tight for a pullover (i.e. hard to get the shirt off). Not terrible altogether, but you can certainly do a lot better for this price. I returned it.

Eagle Creek ES Cargo Duffel Bags

Eagle Creek ES Cargo Duffel Bags

Rating for this product: 5 August 12, 2009

The tag says "100% Cordura."
The duffel fits easily back into the "stuff pouch," which is not a part of the duffel, but made of the same material.
As noted in other reviews, covered by Eagle Creek's "No Matter What" lifetime guarantee.

The North Face Basecamp Duffel - Pakhe

August 2, 2009

This looks identical to the current North Face product "Jholo," so the fabrics are probably very similar.

http://www.thenorthface.com/catalog/sc-gear/equipment-luggage_duffels/jholo-medium.html

As noted on the North Face web site, the Jholo is made from phthalate-free TPE fabric laminate. In a chat with a representative on their site, I have also learned that its fabric is waterproof, although the seams are not.

The answer form here doesn't seem to be functioning correctly, so hopefully this is not the third response.
