Arc'teryx Sidewinder AR Jacket - Men's

August 1, 2009

Sidewinder AR in Midas Gold and Theta SV bib. I really like both, but the pant could be a little baggier and the jacket a little slimmer fit. Quality is superb, can not see that it has been used at all after 1 winter.Got the Theta AR jacket later, and I'm going to replace the Sidewinder AR with the Stingray jacket and pants and keep the Theta pants. Goretex softshell for nicer weather and downhill, and the hardshell for really bad weather and mountain skiing.

Peak Performance Heli Alpine Jacket - Men's

August 24, 2011

I use the bootcut heli mid pants on my legs, and on my upper body I wear an Icebreaker t-shirt, an Icebreaker longsleeve 200 (optional, only if it is cold), my back protector and then the PP heli mid. If it is very cold, I might swap the heli mid for the Arcteryx Delta SV high loft jacket.
Due to the body mapping, the jacket is warmer than most GTX shells. I've never used primaloft or down under the shell, that is to warm for me.

Best skiing jacket

Peak Performance Heli Alpine Jacket - Men's

Peak Performance Heli Alpine Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 1, 2011

Skied with this jacket (and pants) entire last season, and will do that this season as well. The Heli Alpine is really the best skiing clothes out there, period. Before that, I had the Arcteryx Sidewinder AR jacket and Theta SV pants, and the Peak Performance Heli Alpine is better in almost every aspect.
First, and most important, the feel of the proshell fabric is very smooth. Not like other Proshell, more like a softshell. The body mapping with thin fleece pads where you usually get cold, works great.
The look on the jacket is also great. Great room for layers, but snug enough to keep the cold air out. The hood is easy to adjust, so is the arm cuffs.
Many and roomy pockeds, all with zippers. No complaints on this jacket, it is just as I should have designed it myself. The only thing that was better on the Arcteryx was the durability (or maybe the fabric/stitching quality). The Arcteryx did not look used at all after a year, but on the Heli Alpine you can see small fibers of fabric around the zippers and in the collar.
I would also like a zip to connect to the pants, instead of buttons and snowskirt.

The price in Norway? 1100USD for just the jacket. Worth it? YES.

Good jacket

Peak Performance Heli Primaloft Jacket - Men's

Peak Performance Heli Primaloft Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 1, 2011

Have used this jacket for 15 months now, and I'm happy with it. It is actually the jacket I use most during the winter. I mostly use it as a jacket alone around town, between +5deg C and -8degC. Not as warm as a down jacket, but the primaloft is nice enough and the fit and thickness of the jacket makes you forget that you have it on.. Light rain and moderate snow is no problem with this jacket, it does not get wet. I also like the hood a lot, nice snug fit heats my ears and head so no need for a hat.
It is pretty pricy, about 420USD in Norway. Aside from that, I dont have any complaints about the jacket, and I didnt have any better candidates when i bought it. It fits in nicely between a down jacket and a fleece jacket.

Icebreaker BodyFit 200 Contour Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Icebreaker BodyFit 200 Contour Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 19, 2009

Fits well, great thickness for winter use and keeps shape well after washing. Does not smell bad either. My favourite when it is cold! Does not itch too bad, but i can feel it a little bit now and then. Pair it with a 150 or 200 in the summer, and a 260 and a fleece or primaloft in the winter, and you are well covered under your shell

Perfect

Icebreaker BodyFit 260 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Icebreaker BodyFit 260 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 19, 2009

Bought my first early this fall, and after wearing it for a few days, I ordered my second. Looks very good for everyday use, looks fine after normal machine wash, regulates body heat well and does not smell. I think the 200 is a little to thin to wear alone during winter, but the 260 is much better. Pair it with a 200 contour t-shirt and a fleece or a primaloft jacket, and you are pretty well covered under your shell jacket.

Warm and perfect fit

Arc'teryx Rho AR Top - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Arc'teryx Rho AR Top - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 1, 2009

I love this fleece. The stretch makes it fit very nice, and it is as warm as a wool sweater. The price is not too bad either. Keeps apperance and shape well after washing.
Guess I'm going to get this one in another color, if I'm not going for Peak Performance new heli mid layer. Got the PP black light, and loves that one just as much as the Rho AR.

Fit could have been better, otherwise great

Arc'teryx Accomplice Fleece Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Accomplice Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 August 1, 2009

I was a little dissapointed in the accomplice jacket. Looks very good in pictures, but when wearing it, it is not as atletic fit as I wanted. I am 6'4" and 215lbs, and the jacket fits nice on the arms, shoulders and chest, but is to baggy around the waist. Could have something to do with my body shape I guess.
Anyway, the jacket performs very nice in moderate wind conditions, and is as wind and water resistand as an average softshell jacket (not the expensive brands). The hardface also make it nice to wear under a proshell jacket, very low friction makes movement easy. I would recomend the jacket, but get at least 30% off to make sure you are happy with the value of the jacket.
