Julbo Bivouak Sunglasses - Spectron 4 Lens

Julbo Bivouak Sunglasses - Spectron 4 Lens

Rating for this product: 5 November 10, 2009

I purchased the white Bivuoaks with the zebra anti fog lens'....these things rock...they list as fitting medium size heads but I usually require large and these fit just fine....they are so comfortable i forget they are on my head....so far they haven't fogged up on me and with the wrap-around lens and the (detachable) side visors totally locks out the sun without cutting down on your vision...Awesome!!

Great tent

Mountain Hardwear Lightpath 3 Tent 3-Person 3-Season

Mountain Hardwear Lightpath 3 Tent 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 November 9, 2009

this is great 3 person tent verses the weight.....3 good size peeps would be way too tight of a fit in my book but...for my use with an 11 yr old and a petite wife it worked just fine and we fit all our packs and boots in the vestibule with enough room to get out to pee in the middle of the night without killing yourself...one thing to know though if its a big deal to you is...this needs stakes...it is not free-standing but i'm not planning on pitching this on granite or ice so its no prob...also a way cool feature is to purchase the footprint so you can go ultra-light and just pack the footprint..2 poles...and the rain-fly and leave the tent body at home...

Mad Rock Trickster Climbing Shoe - Men's

Mad Rock Trickster Climbing Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 8, 2009

I'll write another review on these bad boys once I get them on some granite but....as far as the size goes....I would recommend buying the same size as your street shoes....I wear a 10.5 or a 11 depending on the maker and did the advised half down and ordered a 10....as soon as I took them out of the box I knew I was in trouble...I thot "crap they sent me kids shoes" but thot...ok I'll try this out....the only way I can describe the pain is....if I had the choice of my nads in a vise or wearing a size 10....I'd have to give that some thot.....I returned the 10s and got an 11....and they feel like the proper amount of uncomfortableness a climbing shoe should have considering due to the materials in this shoe they don't look like they're gonna stretch much...

Bear Vault

Bear Vault BV450 Solo Bear Resistant Food Canister

Rating for this product: 4 September 30, 2009

I live in the shadows of Yosemite N.P. and spend time there so....a bear container is required for overnighters...this b.c. can be tricky to open but i've found if you hold it like you're giving your little brother a nuugie an then use your index finger to put pressure just above the latch and push counterclockwise it will scoot past without a brain hemorrhage....also using a car key or blade makes it a cinch too...and they are a good stable seat for ur butt..i easily fit plenty of food for a two nighter for two.

Wife be happy

Mountain Hardwear Ultralamina 15 Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Synthetic - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Ultralamina 15 Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Synthetic - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 September 28, 2009

I bought two of these puppies....one for the wife and one for our daughter....they are both 5'4" ish and the regular is a good fit for them....but the most important factor is that they were warm on our last trip to 10,000 ft. with temps in the high 20's and even with some dripping tent condensation had no complaints which truly makes a husband/father smile...the woman's Ultralamina 15 has an observable amount more insulation than the mens (as that is the bag I have) I dig the little zippered storage pocket up by the neck....it fits a Blackberry and an ipod with a little room still...

Katadyn Vario Dual Technology MicroFilter

Katadyn Vario Dual Technology MicroFilter

Rating for this product: 5 September 28, 2009

this thing rocks....even in the dual filter set-up ( the ceramic filter in-line) this thing still pumps fast since it pumps both with the up stroke and the down stroke of the pump handle....very versatile for filling various containers...makes non-moving lake water taste great let alone moving creek water....comes fully stocked with field maintenance doo dads and all for what I think is a fair price tho....you can't put a price on staying hurricane dirty free....

Mountain Hardwear Mesa Convertible Pant - Men's

September 17, 2009

the MH Mesa is listed as for hiking/backpacking so i haven't found the velcro pockets a problem with losing gear...if you're bouldering/climbing or doing cartwheels than maybe the zipper pocketed Matterhorn is a better choice..

The North Face Backpacking Bivy 3-Season-Do Not Use

August 30, 2009

I'm 5'11 and 240...it was alittle tricky since i have a Mountain Hard Wear bag that doesn't zip all the way down so it took some agility but it wasn't a pain...a small pack might be tight....I fit a flashlight...jacket..Bible...and a .45 so...you could get your boots in...most the room is above your head which is where the most heigth is..

the only way a dog would fit in the NF bivy would be to lay on top of you and once zipped neither of you would be able to budge..

I would also add that if you want good air flow it needs to be tight which will require staking it out...otherwise your bag will keep it up..

Great Shelter

The North Face Backpacking Bivy 3-Season-Do Not Use

Rating for this product: 4 August 30, 2009

This is an awesome shelter...it is very light...and greatly increased the warmth of my bag due to it being small....your breath heats your living space up pretty good.....if you do not like confined spaces than get a one man tent....or just leave the zipper partialy open. I am impressed with the craftsmanship on this bivy....I dig the zipper tags being glow in the dark...it helps when the call of nature over rides the cold pre-dawn temps....the only thing I wish it had was a bug net on the door....but I just deal with the occasional moth while star gazing...
