Big Agnes Slide Mountain SL2 Tent Footprint

Big Agnes Slide Mountain SL2 Tent Footprint

Rating for this product: 4 September 13, 2010

I bought this to go with my REI Sub-alpine ultralite tent, which did not come with a footprint. I've had this for about a year now, used in all weather - clear, rainy, snowy, windy, etc., and on grass, dirt/woodchips, and snow. So far it's held up well, not really showing signs of wear and tear. It is slightly wide near the foot of my tent - but I wasn't expecting a perfect match. The result is the need to fold it in to make sure it doesn't pool water during rain storms.
Overall I'm satisfied, and look forward to many good years of camping with it.

Secure, Durable, Oversized

Outdoor Research Crocodiles Gaiter - Men's

Outdoor Research Crocodiles Gaiter - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 8, 2010

Keeps my calves warm and dry, and the closure system is very secure. The sizing is a little off - go based on your calf more than your shoes. I wear a 10.5-11 Merrell shoe and Asolo boot, and made the mistake of ordering the XL. It was MASSIVE! I exchanged it with no problems for a medium, which fit perfectly around the calf, and tight/secure fit around the ankles of the boots.

Essential for Winter Camping

The North Face NSE Tent Bootie III - Men's

The North Face NSE Tent Bootie III - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 8, 2010

Keeps the feet and toes plenty warm around the campsite, a nice relief from hiking boots. The soles are durable, and yet nothing on the ground will stick to them, so you won't track snow into your tent.
Sizing: I wear a 10.5-11, and the large fits perfectly.

Asolo TPS 520 GV Boot - Men's

January 20, 2010

I picked mine up wide from REI. They don't differentiate between D, 2E or 4E, just wide. I'm typically a 4E sneaker. REI carried the regulars in store, but ASOLO wide for another boot. I tried both on, liked these boots and the fit of the others. Taking a slight risk I had them order these from their warehouse in wide, which has worked out really well. Breaking them in was still necessary, and depending on your arch or other particulars of your foot, perhaps changing insoles will also be necessary.

Sizes run big

Outdoor Research Verglas Gaiter - Men's

Outdoor Research Verglas Gaiter - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 19, 2010

I typically wear anywhere from 10.5 to 12 in shoes, but there was no way the XL gaiters were going to stay around my calf. I returned the XL's (very simple with Backcountry). With Larges in short supply for pretty much all gaiters, I went with a Medium Crocodiles. They'll stay on my calf and fit around my winter hiking boots without a problem.

I didn't try these out, but the design and durability looked solid, hence the 4 stars.

Outdoor Research Verglas Gaiter - Women's

Outdoor Research Verglas Gaiter - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 19, 2010

Got these for my sister for Christmas. She absolutely loves them for hiking and snowshoeing in the Northeast, keeping her legs dry and providing a little extra warmth. She wears a size 7 or 8 and the small gaiters fit her very well. From my experience with OR men's gaiters as well - they seem to run big, go at least a size down from the size chart.

Great hat, pretty warm

Marmot Shadows Hat

Marmot Shadows Hat

Rating for this product: 4 January 15, 2010

The wool is very comfortable, and the hat keeps me warm very well. It fits under a bike helmet just fine.

It only truly blocks wind around the ear/headband area. At temperatures below 30, you can feel the wind stealing some heat from the very top of your head. I have another biking hat for complete wind-stopping at such cold temperatures, and this Marmot hat does a great job at the slightly warmer temperatures, keeping me warm enough without overheating.

Review Title

Metolius Super Chalk Sock

Metolius Super Chalk Sock

Rating for this product: 4 September 9, 2009

Keeps chalk contained, no mess. The sock keeps from overcovering your hands, but still getting enough for use. The downside to that is my hands sweat easily, so with the less amount that the sock gives, I need to reapply more often. Still a useful product, and refilling is a great feature.

Outstanding

GoLite Adrenaline Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Down

GoLite Adrenaline Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 September 7, 2009

I took it out this weekend for some 14er action. It packs really small and light, and was insanely warm at night at 30 degrees. I haven't tested it below 20 but I get the feeling it would keep me warm and cozy below 10, 0 if I add a layer of clothing.

The down bag was comfy while sleeping on my back as well as on my side. Great 3-season bag

Edit Dec. 19: I camped this week in snow with a 3-season tent (REI sub-alpine) at about 5 degrees at 10,000 feet. I was toasty with a sweatshirt and leggings in this bag. Alternatively, I suppose I could have gone with my sleeping bag liner and fewer clothes. I love this bag, very versatile. As a side note, I seem to generate a lot of body heat when I sleep, so others may have different results.
