Nice and warm

The North Face Aphelion Triclimate Jacket - Women's

The North Face Aphelion Triclimate Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 February 24, 2012

I took this jacket to both Stockholm in November and then the Yunnan Province of China (Tibet) in December. It served me well in both places, almost too well. I was never cold wearing this jacket. The minky lining in the removable liner was cozy and quite soft, but it was only in the torso and neck area. The arms are lined with nylon-type material that sticks a bit when you sweat. It would have helped to have had pit zips in the removable liner, but they were only in the outer shell. The outer shell has a zip napoleon pocket, but both the liner and outer shell have zip pockets for each hand. I originally ordered a medium, but it was a little tight in the shoulders so I exchanged for a large and it fits well, giving me enough room to move around in. I would definitely get this jacket again. It was nice to have something so versatile that could easily adapt to the different conditions of my trips. I got the graphite grey mini plaid, and you can't tell in the pics, but the removable lining is cool, iridescent purple-blue.

Heavy hood

Hurley Winchester Sherpa Jacket - Women's

Hurley Winchester Sherpa Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 February 24, 2012

Mega cute styling and definitely cozy, but the sherpa-lined hood is just held on with plastic buttons (like the kind on a button-up shirt, but 1/2" in diameter) that kept coming out of the button holes. It might have been fixed by sewing the holes to make them a tighter fit, but I returned it for the same jacket, but without the sherpa lining. Hopefully the hood will stay on better. Also, it runs a big in the chest and waist. I'm usually a between a medium and large, but the large was definitely too big. I got a medium in my replacement.

Very Comfy shell

The North Face Apex Bionic Triclimate Softshell Jacket - Women's

The North Face Apex Bionic Triclimate Softshell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 October 19, 2009

I bought this jacket thinking that the liner was fleece, but it's the lining of the SHELL that is fleecey. Rather than a nylon-type rain jacket that sticks to you with the moisture, the fleece (I'd say it's more of a flocking) is just warm and comfy enough to wear during the 3 days of rain we get here Cali. =P
I got this jacket for a trip to Beijing in November, where there is the possibility of some snow. With the liner, I think I would be plenty warm, but since I'm not a fan of hiking (going up the Great Wall) and having sweat stick a nylon liner to me, I'll probably get the TKA 100 Masonic fleece to wear under the shell instead. I think the shell itself was probably worth the $114. It has some water resistance, a bit of stretch, and the afore mentioned lining. The description says there are two front hip pockets and a forearm pocket, but the hip pockets aren't sewn inside a lining so they actually create two more, pretty deep, internal mesh pockets. I'm 5'3", 150 lbs so I'm a little thicker in the arms and waist, but a medium still feels good. I think a large would have been too big in the chest and too long.

The North Face Hero Triclimate Jacket - Women's

What is the liner made of? Is it a knit, fleece, or nylon? I don't like the thin nylon material on the inside of jackets. Thanks!
