Icelantic Shaman Alpine Ski

December 4, 2010

Well I guess it depends on what you're looking to do Vet... Obviously if you're looking to go touring, you'd probably want to go AT. Since you're looking at the Shaman, I'm guessing performance is more important to you than light weight. I'd go with a beefy AT binding from Marker. I have a pair of Marker Duke's and have always been satisfied. If you're sticking mostly to resort skiing, then save some extra weight and go Alpine. I have last years Shamans with a pair of Rossi FKS 180 bindings and LOVE them. Best alpine set up I've ever had. Hope this helps. Happy hunting and Deep snow!!!

Ohhh... Another nice feature that the Shamans have that make them nice for touring is the narrowing/slightly pointed tip which allows for most skin clips to fit easily.

Super Blaster- Finally a Stiff Boot for Wide Feet

Lange Super Blaster Ski Boot - Men's

Lange Super Blaster Ski Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 18, 2010

I gave this boot 4 stars because the shell is GREAT!!! Finally, a boot with a 102mm and a 120 flex. So SICK of stiiff boots with 97mm lasts. Why is it that boot companies thing that all aggressive skiers have skinny feet? The flex is consistent and powerful. The walk mode in this boot is the best I've seen. Far better than the typical plastic switch/lever on the back of the boot. Whether going to the bathroom or standing in the lift line, super easy to just flip the second calf buckle and go into walk mode with LOTS of extra room to stand in; great for patrolling, instructing, and touring.

Why not 5 stars you ask? Well I've had issues with the liners. I've already returned one pair to Lange for a rip in the liner near the ankle. Now, on my second pair of liners, there is a rip at the base of the tongue; seems cosmetic, but as this is the second issue, I'm not super satisfied with them, but over all, very happy and I'd recommend these to somebody. Thinking about getting a custom liner from Surefoot as I really do love these boots. I have had the shell stretched quite a bit, but these are the most comfortable and best performing boots I've had in a long while.

Also, the soles are nice for walking around the resort. Not Vibram, but they're a soft material that interchangeable and sticky.

Icelantic Shaman is Ridiculously Fun!!!

Icelantic Shaman Alpine Ski

Icelantic Shaman Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 January 10, 2010

I skied the Icelantic Shaman (184 cm) on an average non-powder day at Alta and wow... These were so much fun. I'm 5'11" and weigh 210 lbs. I am an expert skier who skis the WHOLE mountain, even groomers. These were the most fun fat ski I've ever skied not in powder. They absolutely rail on the groomers leaving deep slalom/GS like arcs in the snow. Super fast and smooth. Also, these "carved" great turns in crud and heavy powder left about 5 days since the last storm skiing around Vail Ridge. Haven't skied them on an epic powder day yet, but how can a 160 shovel and 110 underfoot not be good in the powder? I also enjoyed the traditional camber of these skis. To sum up; I think these skis are a great one ski quiver EXCEPT for in the park.

So I rode these in some good pow this last week and loved them. I still skied the 184 and found that they soak up the crud and let me carve/fly like nothin'. Also, they rip through the deep powder and leave beautiful tracks. Sweet!!!

Fits wide feet

Evolv Prime Climbing Shoe

Evolv Prime Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 October 29, 2009

I have a very wide foot and found the Evolv Optimus Prime fits my foot better than any other velcro climbing shoe I've tried thanks to the symmetrical toe box and stretchy breathable uppers compared to the neoprene uppers of most velcro climbing shoes (like 5.10 Anasazi Velcro or the Evolv Pontas).
I've had one rand and half resole done and the downturn toe is still in tact and holds strong on steep climbs.
An excellent shoe!!!

Lets Hear It For Sizes!!!

Black Diamond Tracer Helmet

Black Diamond Tracer Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 October 28, 2009

I love the Black Diamond Tracer because it comes in three sizes! I have a BIG head and the Tracer is the only helmet I can wear all day comfortably and feel like my whole head is in the bucket.
If you have a big head, try the Tracer Large.
