solid build for its intended use

Mountain Hardwear Power Stretch Glove - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Power Stretch Glove - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 27, 2010

for hands that need a bit of object grasp and dexterity in movement, these gloves will serve well. they are more solid than other brands (e.g. outdoor Research) for the same type and price range. If you do not expect these to protect you from the coldest outdoors (if they do, they would get 5 stars), then these will fit your bills. No other "power stretch" gloves out there would beat these unless you spend way more (say $46.00 as opposed to just $19)

snug, warm for fall

The North Face Classic Denali Fleece Jacket - Women's

The North Face Classic Denali Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 2, 2010

The Denali is a well-made fleece jacket w/ solid build: seams and fleece a` la North Face quality (warm pocket, and standard number thereof). Users can depend on it for cold days dashing from house to cars and parking lot. It would be insufficiently protective if you have to stand under a glacial wind for extended time. my only complaint is that if you are a little skinny in the shoulder+upper arms areas, you will feel the rippling bulge on the fleece(and thick seams) due to the space left by your not being very stuffed in those areas. the Denali looks very fit w/ people that have a girth and large shoulder and upper arms. this is a recommended item even though the color choices are not topnotch. I would use it on a cold autumn walk, and probably use it under another parka when confronting subtemp in nasty mornings of February. Size Medium is a well-fit size as in almost snug to your body; whereas a Large, which is still not very long, will leave too much unused air under the arms.

good cosmetics overall, far from very puffy IMO

The North Face Elysium Down Jacket - Men's

The North Face Elysium Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 July 9, 2009

For $149 this jacket is satisfactory to the looks. but once you consider the price/performance of this brand name and its vaunted 700-fill specifications, you would wonder whether you have spent correctly. the down jacket is slightly flat overall, not nearly puffy as the Nuptse which I bought for $131 in the Christmas sale. Wearing this, you have the feeling that this is intended for a autumn walk in a park/woods. Nothing in this build is indicative of the expected down content that would protect you from the chills of a nordic wind. I have to return this since this cannot be a authentic 700-fill or worth this price,i.e. maybe it's imported OEM item dissimulated under the advertized picture that looks so attractive only from afar
