KEEN Ashland Casual Slip-on - Men's

KEEN Ashland Casual Slip-on - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 18, 2008

I have lived in these shoes for the past two yrs. They rubbed the side of my ankles for a few weeks when I got them, but after they broke in a bit, they are by far the best shoes I have ever owned. I am buying my 2nd pair today with full confidence that I will be getting another great keen product. They pair I have is still in very good shape, but I want to use them exclusively as operating room shoes and have a nice, clean, germ free pair for when I get home from work. I would never hesitate buying these shoes. They are as waterproof as it gets. I have stood in water puddles to see if they will eventually leak...they don't. The leather is tough, but comfortable and it wipes clean so easily due to the lack of crevasses. I help preserve the leather with mink oil, and they still look great after 2 yrs. Bottom line: buy them, you'll be glad you did!

MH synchro hooded vs MH swift jacket

Mountain Hardwear Synchro Hooded Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Synchro Hooded Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 1, 2007

So far I am completely happy with my purchase. I initially ordered a MH swift jacket. I wanted something that was completely waterproof/windproof for everyday use and also snowshoeing and other winter sports. I wanted the breathability water/wind proofing of gortex pac lite, but the swift jacket was uncomfortable. It felt like you were wearing a rain coat..(the cheap kind)the arms were made for an arangatan. I am 6 feet tall and have normal to longer arms than most, and I still found that the swift jacket would bunch up over my wrists and hands. I know that the jacket is also made for ice climbing and MH has the extended ice pick position in mind while making this, but all-in-all the synchro is everybit as water/windproof, qhueter while walking/hiking due to the external material used, and the inteior of the jacket is lined with a lightweight and soft/very comfortable fleece like material that is a thousandtimes better than the swift jacket. The integrated hood feels much better than the swifts zip out hood that bunches around that back of your head, or when it is tucked away int he collar, it makes the collar feel tight and unnatural. I really like that the synchro has taped and welded seams to ensure maximum waterproofing. When comparing these two jackets side by side, I would handsdown take the synchro over ther the swift, you really don't need the gortex name to have a completely waterproof jacket. I have so far been in terential down pores in western New York and in very windy conditions and have stayed warm and dry. The arms are also cut to a normal length-a plus. It also has a good amount of pockets,2 inner, and 4 outer. This jacket gets two thumbs up from me. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a very lightweight, packable, wind/waterproof jacket that doesn't sacrifice comfort.

Mountain Hardwear Swift Jacket - Mens

Mountain Hardwear Swift Jacket - Mens

I bought this jacket with high hopes. I read all the reviews and thought that this would be the perfect waterproof shell. First of all that is all this is-a shell. There is absolutely no inner lining. I wanted a light weight waterproof shell that I could wear for everyday use. I not planning on climbing Everest in this lifetime, I just wanted a lightweight jacket to wear to school/work and everywhere else. This jacket is kind of noisy. It has very long cut arms. I am 6 feet tall and have longer arms than most and it still drowned me. the sleeves would bunch up on my wrists and hands which made it difficult for everyday use, I constantly found myself pulled up on the sleeves. It is very waterproof/windproof, but you can get thte same quality water/wind proofing for less money. The hood is a stow away in the collar hood. it bunches up at the back of your head, it doesn't fall to the back of the coat, and when the hood is tucked away in the collar, it feels unnatural. I returned this coat for the MH synchro hooded jacket and am much more pleased with it. I also saved about 40-50$. see my review on the synchro jacket before you buy, you will be glad you did. I would only buy this jacket if you wanted ONLY an outer shell and you are always going to wear it with a insulated liner. If you wear it with t-shirts or everyday use, you will be much more happy with the synchro jacket. I'm giving the swift jacket 4 stars because of the arangatan cut sleeves and weird hood configuration. other than that, it's a decent jacket.

Good caps. Only complaint- they should come with the bars, you pay 50$ for bars , you would think Thule could throw in some end caps.
