Baggy material

Mountain Hardwear Hardwear Hat

Mountain Hardwear Hardwear Hat

Rating for this product: 3 April 23, 2012

Finely made, lightweight ball cap. Gets 3 stars for fit. I have a 7.5 in. head and bought the large. While it's an easily adjustable hat, the top material is too big and baggy. It looks silly and floppy. I guess it would work if you had a lot of curly hair. Ended up giving it to my dad, who is oblivious to fashion and needed a brimmed hat.

Arc'teryx Beta AR Jacket - Men's

April 20, 2012

I, too am exactly your size (6'1" / 175, broad shoulders and long arms, normal length torso). I have the Beta AR in large and it fits on the large side (but that's a GOOD thing with this jacket, because it's designed to be layered under. My "storm shelter" layering is a wool base layer, an Atom LT, and the Beta AR. No weather out here in the southwest can get through that, but if it ever did, I'd still have room for a fleece or softshell jacket, so bring it on!

Nice pants

Marmot Entrada Softshell Pant - Men's

Marmot Entrada Softshell Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 30, 2012

Just picked up a pair of the Entrada Pant, and felt compelled to give them a 5-star review. These are my second pair of softshell pants (the other being the Stoic Overhang), so I have something to compare them to. First off, the material on these pants is AMAZING! Very stretchy, very breathable. The pants just move with you and there's no chaffing at all. They seem tough, but I haven't put them in any situation were I could test that theory. The seams all seem very well constructed and the zippers feel solid. The pockets are a little shallow, especially the back one. There are two hip pockets that lie flat and are larger than the hand pockets. As for width and length, I'm a 33x34 in pants, and I went for the 34. They're a little big in the waist, but the Entradas have these great belt-type straps that you pull, and the pants synch up along the waist (totally cool, totally techy). They fit on the slim side, for sure. The length is perfect (I would imagine that the 34 is a 34x33.5). For temperatures, I'd guess they'd do well from anywhere around freezing (in dry weather) up to the 70s (I don't know, I've only worn them for my morning dog walks so far, and those have been in the upper 20s-lower 30s, and they've been perfect). Best way to describe the fabric is that it's on the thinner side of softshell, but not paper-thin by any means. Anyway, hope that helps.

Bon Pantalon!

Stoic Overhang Pant - Men's

Stoic Overhang Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 23, 2012

The Overhang pant is one nice pair of pants! The fabric is very stretchy, very soft, and the articulated knees let them move with your body as you hike and climb. Very comfortable pant.

In terms of warmth, I've lately been wearing them out for my morning dog walk in temps around 25-30 and am totally fine (the fabric is pretty thick, and the inside seems like it has some fuzzy insulation on it, but nothing dramatic).

They're on the slim side, but I suppose you could layer with some long-johns if you needed to (I haven't).

They loose a star for two reasons: First, they're cut a little low in the waste (that's the style, but I like my pants at my waste). Second, they're a bit too short for my legs. I bought a medium, and I'm a 33x34 in jeans. These are more like a 34x33. I can still wear them up in the mountains where I live, but I don't like to wear them into town because I look like the dork I really am.

All-in-all, I'm happy with my purchase, but wish they were 1-2 inches longer...

Nice simple hoody / strange zipper

Backcountry.com Dreamland Hooded Sweatshirt - Men's

Backcountry.com Dreamland Hooded Sweatshirt - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 6, 2012

I'm diggin this hoody. Not a technical piece, just a lounging around piece. It lounges well... Nice long arms for us knuckle draggers, and a nice slim for us pole beans (I'm 6'2" / 175 with long arms and a slender torso). My wife digs the way I look in this hoody, for what it's worth.

My concern is about the zipper. It is small and weak-feeling and is on the wrong side. I have a feeling I'm going to be breaking it soon, and will update this post if and when I do. Cheers!

Runs small

Pow Gloves HD Glove

Pow Gloves HD Glove

Rating for this product: 4 February 22, 2012

I only want to comment about the sizing. (Since they run so small, I couldn't wear them out to test them to comment about warmth or quality of construction, but on first impression, they seem well built). Anyway, I'm usually in between an L and XL in gloves, but the large of these wasn't even close due to the shortness of the fingers and body. If you're an in between'er like me, better size up.

Solid, warm glove that runs a little small

Outdoor Research ExtraVert Glove - Men's

Outdoor Research ExtraVert Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 27, 2012

I bought these off Steep and Cheap a month ago, and thought I'd throw down a quick review here. First, a note on size: they run a little small. I bought the large, and they're a bit stubby in the fingers (I have fairly long fingers, though). They're also a little snug in the body.

As for construction, well, they're OR, which means they're well made. The stitching seems solid and the materials tough and a little bit stretchy. My only gripe is that the palms are really slick and not at all grippy. I own a pair of OR Gripper Gloves, and would love to see that palm on these gloves.

As for warmth, they've got it, especially for their light/medium weight. I've worn these out on pre-dawn hikes in dry weather that's around 20F, and have felt just fine. Very nice and comfortable liners.

Mammut Logo T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Mammut Logo T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 18, 2012

Love the design, love the fabric, and love the way the body fits (I'm 6'2" and skinny (175 lbs), with broad shoulders). I wanted to love the shirt, but the sleeves stick out and the woven Mammut logo is all bunched up. Had to return...

Another 5-Star review

Backcountry.com Meadow T-Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Backcountry.com Meadow T-Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 13, 2011

Great shirt for us skinny folk with long arms! About me: a lithe 6'2" / 175, broad shoulders with monkey-long arms. The large fits perfectly (the arms are even a little long, but after years of showing off my wrists because of shirts too short, I'll take an over-correction). I haven't washed it yet - and I've had some awful luck with backcountry shirts shrinking in the wash - so I'll update this review if things go south on that end. Otherwise, I love the shirt, and I just ordered one of each color...

Good shirt if you never wash it

Backcountry.com Nebraska T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 1 April 25, 2011

But if you're like me and like to wash your shirts, this particular garment will seriously let you down -- Darn thing turned into a midriff right out of the washer. Very poor, Backcountry. Very poor indeed.

Doesn't quite fit thin 6'2"

Cloudveil Run Don't Walk Full-Zip Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

Cloudveil Run Don't Walk Full-Zip Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 18, 2011

As the title implies, I'm 6'2" and thin (around 175) with broad shoulders and long arms. I picked up a large off of SAC, and the arms are a little short (not by much, but enough so that using the thumb holes is uncomfortable). Otherwise, the piece seems to be of good quality construction, with a sturdy zipper and nice, thick material. If, however, you typically have problems with sleeves being too short, I'd look around for another hoody before getting this one.

Monchichi, baby!

Sierra Designs Tarzan Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 18, 2011

This jacket is ridiculously cool. It's super fluffy and completely over-the-top, and I friggin love it (so does the woman, who wears it around the house whenever I'm not). Seriously, it makes me feel like one of those Japanese snow monkeys who you always see hot-tubbin on the Nature Channel.I'm not going to comment on its sports functionality, as it appears to be strictly apres-ski, but wear it out to the bar, and I almost guarantee women will be rubbing up on you within a few minutes. As for fit, I'm 6'2" 175 with broad shoulders and monkey-long arms, and the large fits great, if not a bit loose in the body (but I'm pretty thin).Anyway, I wish I were wearing it now...

Isis Topo Jacket - Women's

February 17, 2011

I bought my girlfriend medium of this jacket - she's around 5'7" 130. The length of the arms are perfect (maybe even half an inch too long), but the body is a little baggy for her taste (I would not consider this an athletic cut). My question is whether to exchange it for a small. Specifically, what are the arm measurements of the two sizes? She'd rather have the body too big than the arms too short.

Thanks gals.

Too tight

Stoic Merino 150 Bliss Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino 150 Bliss Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 April 2, 2010

I'm 6'2" and sport an athletic/skinny build (6'2" / 180). I purchased a large, and the thing clings to my body like saran-wrap. The fit would be fine (if not still a little too tight) if it were a true underlayer, but the pocket suggests that this shirt should be worn alone. Sorry Stoic, better get back to the drawing board on this one!

Runs BIG

Backcountry.com Midweight Merino Ski Sock - 2 Pair

Backcountry.com Midweight Merino Ski Sock - 2 Pair

Rating for this product: 2 November 15, 2009

I bought the L/XL to fit my 11 (US) shoe size. These socks are WAY too big. When I pull them on tight, the heal is at least 6 inches up my calf.

I also bought my dad the S/M, which are still a little big on me.

Very strange sizing...
