Solid Product

The North Face TKA 100 Glacier 1/4 Zip Fleece Pullover - Men's

The North Face TKA 100 Glacier 1/4 Zip Fleece Pullover - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 26, 2009

I mine wear both indoors and out, as a standalone piece and under a shell. It is an incredibly versatile garment that I can't live without. Mine has undergone frequent use and dozens of washings, and so far I'm impressed with the quality. The exterior does not pill, and still looks pretty sharp. It isn't the cheapest in its class, but I've owned many fleeces that crapped out much sooner than this.

Mountain Hardwear Synchro Softshell Jacket - Men's

October 23, 2009

I'm 5'11" and 170 and I bought a large. It's not a perfect fit, but acceptable. The sleeves are a bit too long, and there's plenty of room underneath. I would start with a med.

Nice Bag

The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Climashield Prism

The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Climashield Prism

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2009

I've owned this bag a few years and taken it on mainly summer trips, some with nighttime temps in the mid 30's. Always slept like a baby in it. Haven't had a cold night yet, but I've never really tested the limits. It's not the lightest bag for the rating, but it's reasonably priced, durable, and plenty roomy (I'm 5'11" 165lbs and I have the regular, although they probably change the cut every year). The synthetic fill is good insurance on rainy coastal trips.

Everybody's doing it

The North Face Denali Fleece Jacket - Men's

The North Face Denali Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 October 17, 2009

It's really fascinating to consider the ascendancy of this jacket. Not only is it practically ubiquitous, but its popularity seems to expand every year. The public never tires of it. But why not?

My theory is the well-placed black nylon. It partially conceals the fleece and makes it look less fuzzy, somehow more sophisticated. It's a jacket for people who are slightly disdainful of fleece. People who buy luxury SUVs and never drive them on dirt roads buy this jacket, and it suits them.

It's drafy and bulky (you probably already know that), but most people don't seem to care. That said, it does have its uses. I wore it in Alaska on a kayak trip, but always under a shell, but I'd never bring it backpacking or wear it standalone in winter/wet conditions. It works great in cold rooms with airtight windows. And of course it excels at the outdoor mall.

Either way, the Denali domination continues. They even make them for children.

I only see three sizes in the tech specs (S,M,L). What is XS? Is the small available?
