NIce material, annoying features

Mountain Hardwear Kurtis Short - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Kurtis Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 April 19, 2011

These shorts are comfy and light, but the snap waist and belt are a kind of nuisance. Having a size 30 waste, I bought a small and have a little bit of trouble getting a decent fit at the waste. The belt doesn't like to stay cinched very well. The snap waste doesn't really like to stay snapped either, and though there is a button with a loop inside the waste you can fasten, it's a bother to do and Is easily forgotten, making for a small surprise when trying to undo the waste for whatever reason you have to remove your shorts. Other than that, they're durable and comfortable and breathable, though I do wish they were a hair shorter.

Warm and cozy

Marmot Sawtooth Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down

Marmot Sawtooth Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 April 19, 2011

As my first down sleeping bag, I don't think I'll need to upgrade anytime soon! I love this bag, it's very warm, packs down pretty small (though not incredibly) and is very cozy, not uncomfortably tight or small, but just right (I'm 5'10' with a lean build). It has s nice smooth gliding zipper that goes most of the way around, and the construction seems to be durable, though I have had a few feathers come out, though not many. The collar around the bag tightens up on colder nights to keep heat in nicely. As a starter no frills bag that'll last a long time, there's no better bag!

Go to jacket

Mountain Hardwear Synchro Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 19, 2011

I've had this jacket for 1 year and a half now and love this thing for all tasks, either going to class or climbing on cold days. The windproof technology is fantastic, no wind cuts through it at all. I was on the beach at St. Simons in the winter with 20 mph winds going constant, sometimes flaring up to 30-40 and felt none of it through the jacket. I did have to tighten up the collar, my only con, to keep it from funneling down my back. The waterproofing is very good as well, it will saturate in heavy rain eventually bit it sheds water pretty well in lighter rains.
The jacket fits pretty athletically but doesn't hinder movement at all. At 5'10" and very lean, a medium is a good fit. I originally got a small but it was too short in the waist, as many reviews have stated.
The construction feels very solid, I'm not scared of tearing it up on trees or rocks while climbing. I've seen no problems in the seams or stitches coming out. The fleece on the inside of the sleeves is wonderful, and the wrist has a gasket like fleece ring to almost seal off the inside from weather, a feature I love.
My only con is the collar, which as said before, is kind of awkwardly big. It fits ok zipped up all the way or partially, but feels a little weird when its not zipped or very low zipped. It also doesn't fold down well as its very stiff. A minor bother though. Also, the chest and arm zipper are very stiff and hard to do with one hand, other than that it's great!

Durable Hydration

MSR Hydromedary Hydration Bag

MSR Hydromedary Hydration Bag

Rating for this product: 5 April 18, 2011

I bought the 2.5 L for my Osprey Pack and absolutely love it. The "handle" does make fill up and cleaning easier and I've had no problem with leaks or bad taste. The construction is very durable, both in feeling and performance. It's easily strong enough to toss around or drop, let alone live in your pack.

It's a steel bottle

Sigg Stainless Steel Wide Mouth Bottle - 800ml

Sigg Stainless Steel Wide Mouth Bottle - 800ml

Rating for this product: 3 April 14, 2011

This is my 3rd Sigg bottle, first steel works bottle. I like the wide mouth, its very easy to fill and the top is easy to screw on. With the other 2 regular mouth bottles I had, the tops wanted to cross thread, no problem here. However, the top appears to be made of plastic and doesn't feel like it could take a good direct drop, unlike the sturdy build of the bottle's body. The steel works is nice in that the membrane can't come off around the threading to get in your mouth (there is none) but it does seem to give the water a metallic taste not present in my other bottles.

Great MultiPurpose

Marmot Tempo Softshell Jacket - Men's

Marmot Tempo Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 14, 2011

I bought this jacket in August 10, and have loved it. It's a very athletic fit and pretty light weight feeling, and it keeps you warm, especially when you're active. The construction is pretty good, doesn't feel like its going to give out on me and I have no qualms climbing on rough rock with it. The body does have some stretch to it, so movement is no problem. I sized it like other Marmot gear I have, and it fits perfectly, small for a 5'10, 135 lb frame.

Great Bottle

CamelBak Better Bottle w/ Classic Cap - 1L

CamelBak Better Bottle w/ Classic Cap - 1L

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2009

Does exactly what it needs to: holds water and lasts. I like the size a lot, slightly bigger than the other CamelBak bottle I had and some of the Nalgenes. Doesn't really taste like plastic at all and it doesn't leak at all, just what I bought it for
