MontBell Super Stretch #1 Hugger Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down

MontBell Super Stretch #1 Hugger Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 August 15, 2009

This is by far the best sleeping bag I have ever owned. I have owned half a dozen bags and taken them all backpacking on weeklong expeditions. This is the shiz! Super Warm (not too hot though), cool orange popsicle color, and the the SUPER STRETCH SYSYTEM. This is what sold me on this bag. I move around a lot in my sleep. From changing sides, to rolling on your back or stomach, you will not wake up because of the bag constricting you! The elastic in the seams allows you to strech your knees and arms soo much I can't belive it! A size small compression sack (granite gear) will shrink it down perfectly! I haven't seen a ton of reviews of Montbell on the internet but have a feeling they will be coming in the future because of the Super Stretch series. But this bag if you backpack and want to sleep in ultimate comfort without sacrificing weight and size. The Long size isn't too long for me and i'm 6'0".

Marmot DriClime Vest - Men's

Marmot DriClime Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 August 15, 2009

This vest packs down small and takes up so little room in your pack. I had to return my size L because it was too short and too tight (i'm 6'0" and 190), but the material is nice. Probably not the toughest, but for the price if you find the right size it'll work great.

Mountain Hardwear Escape Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Escape Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 15, 2009

I love this thing! Keeps out wind and blocks HEAVY rain and sleet beautifully. Can't wait to take it to the snow and ice this winter! Plenty of room for layering underneath and the fabric is soft to the touch. Very durable. Great for doing anything where you want to stay dry in bad conditions. Take it backpacking if rain is in the forecast because it is waterPROOF not just waterRESISTANT like other jackets. Size L fit me at 6'0" and 190.

-Thanks Mountain Hardware and Backcountry!

Mountain Hardwear Escape Jacket - Men's

August 15, 2009

Dude get the size L. I am 6'0" and 190 and the Large is awesome. This Mountain Hardware jacket has sleeves that are a tad long (meant for climbing, mountaineering, moving around) but the closure straps at the writst take care of this. The length is perfect and there is enought room for a layer underneath. This jacket is legit! Fights water magically and keeps the wind and chill out! The hood is a little big (meant for a helmet underneath) but when you're not wearing one it can be cinched smaller to work ok. Highly Recommended!

Patagonia Wool 2 Bottom - Men's

Patagonia Wool 2 Bottom - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 August 15, 2009

These Wool 2 bottoms are great. They wick moisture and keep you warm, but dont make you overheat. They seem pretty thin when you take them out of the box, but they are proving to be tought and durable as long as you aren't rolling around in a rockpile! A size L fits perfect without excess material at the foot (i'm 6'0" 190). Keep it up Patagonia!

Perfecto!

Patagonia Wool 2 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Patagonia Wool 2 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 August 15, 2009

This Wool 2 is great! I had previously only worn capilene baselayers and decided to believe the hype and give the wool a try. There will be no going back! Wool is the way to go. Patagonia made this top with a perfect fit. I hugs your body tight enough to stay warm and act as a baselayer but not too tight (like Under Armour). The size L worked perfect for me @ 6'0" 190. Hope this helps!

Ex Officio Give-N-Go Boxer - Men's

Ex Officio Give-N-Go Boxer - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 15, 2009

Best boxers I have ever worn! I was a bit skeptical about the reviews claiming how these boxers were better than all the rest. How they wick moisuture and block odor....but they do! by far they live up to and exceeded expectations. Ex Officio got it right on with these things! Unlike the Patagonia Active Boxers, these do not bunch. They do not have a lot of extra material. They are sooo comfortable and dry extra fast when you wash them. Highly Recommended!

First Need Deluxe Water Purifier

First Need Deluxe Water Purifier

Rating for this product: 5 August 15, 2009

This purifier is obviously not the smallest and lightest weight available. But why do you take a water filter on a backpack trip anyways? To be able to freely drink water like you can at home! This allows you to do just that. Reliable, fits directly onto 32oz Nalgenes, and purifies the nastiest/smelliest water into clean and clear refreshment!

Big n Baggy

Patagonia Active Classic Boxer - Men's

Patagonia Active Classic Boxer - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 August 15, 2009

This are made of great wicking material it looks like. I never owned them long enough to wear em'. They are way too baggy for and average sized guy in my opinion (i'm 6'0" 190) and ordered the Medium's. The legs have a lot of extra material and they extend halways to the kneecap. The cool designs dont' make up for the potential wedgies these will create. I returned them right after I looked at them. GO WITH THE EX OFFICIO GIVE n' GO BOXERS!

Granite Gear Round Rock Solid Compression Sack

Granite Gear Round Rock Solid Compression Sack

Rating for this product: 5 August 15, 2009

Granite Gear is the shiz! this compression sack is made of quality material that wont puncture if you drop it on rocks/sticks, etc.. A size small fits my Montbell Super Stretch Down 15degree long bag perfectly. I use them for my clothes and another for my tent as well, doing this makes packing a lot more compact and organized when backpacking. So worth the price$!

Nice n' Soft

Patagonia Synchilla Marsupial Fleece Pullover Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Synchilla Marsupial Fleece Pullover Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 August 15, 2009

This Patagonia fleece is a good all around fleece. It won't keep out wind or really cold temps, but it will act as a good mid-layer or outerlayer on a mild day outside. Great for running around town and good for nights by the campfire. The size is a Regular fit (unlike Patagonia's R2, etc..jackets) so plan accordingly. It is not a close fit by any means. The sleeves are a bit long (they extend to my fingertips) and the length is a good 3 inches below waistline. (I'm 6'0" 190 and have the Large). All in all a good fleece that makes a comfortable pillow in the backcountry!

Eagle Creek Undercover Passport Money Case

Eagle Creek Undercover Passport Money Case

Rating for this product: 4 August 15, 2009

this undercover moneybelt is legit. Definitely small and discreet under a regular shirt. Can fit your passport, a few credit cards and a good size was of foreign $$ up in it. I look forward to using it more. For the price you can't go wrong.

Thanks Backcountry!

Deuter Futura Vario 50+10 Backpack - 3050cu in

Deuter Futura Vario 50+10 Backpack - 3050cu in

Rating for this product: 4 August 15, 2009

Go ahead and buy this bag. Worked great on a 3 day backpack trip in New Mexico mountains. Solid construction. The material is so much tougher than similar size Osprey packs. Doesn't have unnecessary pockets all over like some packs do. Fit my 15degee down bag (you'll need a compression sack to fit your bag in the sleeping bag compartment as it is small), rain jacket, fleece, change of clothes, camelback, tent and a few other odd's and end's. Nalgenes do fit in the side pockets which is awesome! Deuter really is the BMW of packs!

Plus you'd be buying it from the sickest outdoor retailer on earth! rock on Backcountry!

Too cold

Marmot EcoPro Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Synthetic

Marmot EcoPro Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 3 August 15, 2009

I was hoping this bag would work great...and it just DIDN'T. The material is really slick and comfortable and the design is on point (the glow in the dark zipper pull is a plus) but the bag had me cold at temps in the 30's. To agree with other reviews of this bag it just does not live up to its 15degree rating. It is a comfortable bag though with enough room to sleep in (i'm 6'0" 190). Footbox is larger than most bags i've owned! It does compact pretty small if you use a compression sack. Bottom line...use this bag for warmer weather not the 15degrees Marmot says

The North Face Re Meow Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Climashield HL Green

The North Face Re Meow Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Climashield HL Green

Rating for this product: 2 August 15, 2009

I have to agree with the review underneath mine. This bag looked promising online but definitely was a disappointment. The material is comfortable and the green color is sweet, but it is definitely tight in the hips and shoulders. I'm 6'0" 190 and was uncomfortable in it. If you are a smaller person you may have better luck.
