Best shirt for hiking

Icebreaker Tech Lite T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 19, 2011

I always knew that I liked wool but had never been able to afford the nice merino products. I finally broke down and bought this shirt in anticipation of a long backpacking trip that I needed to pack light for and out of fear of the results of wearing synthetics for a solid week. The shirt was incredibly comfortable; no chafing or riding up. The weight was perfect: nice and light but not translucent. After seven days of hiking it smelled... like me; not that rancid BO smell that is accentuated by polypro, just my normal scent. I also washed the shirt in the river a couple of times and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly it dried. I think Icebreaker could tone down the pretentious packaging and make the product a little cheaper, but its worth the price and I don't think that I will ever go back to synthetics. My only complaint is the the arm holes were a little bit small, but I'm a climber and my shoulders and arms are disproportionately large compared to my XS torso. On a less functional note, the green color is gorgeous.

G3 Expedition Climbing Skin

October 8, 2010

G3 makes the Alpinist Elle climbing skin, which is, in theory, for women. The advantage being (besides the cool - not pink - color) that It comes in a "short" size. I bought the short size for my skis, which are 158s at a width of 115, which is just slightly less than the widest part of the ski. I trimmed the skin to fit the skis and maximize coverage. I have used these skins for 2 seasons and really like them. The attachment system is the same as the expedition. They will definitely work for 160s and the short size comes in a variety of widths. Check out the size chart for details.
