Totally Worth It

Arc'teryx Spotter Pant - Men's

Arc'teryx Spotter Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 15, 2010

I'll start with the technical stuff:I ordered the 34w/32l in both deep dusk and woodsmoke. The 34 in waist is perfect. The 32 in inseam is probably exactly 32 in, but because of the relative thickness/stiffness of the material they tend to prep me a bit too much for high water when I sit down (still totally within reason, but not completely ideal). In addition, these pants are definitely meant to be worn low down on your waist, which gives you even less leeway in how they fit on you. In other words, I'll be ordering a 34/34 for my next pair. Both colors are very unique and a little unexpected based on the pics. Woodsmoke is greyishbrown with some green, and deep dusk is pretty much anthracite(somewhere between extremely dark blue and black). The pants are above average comfortable. The lined waist is a very nice touch.Material is holding up extremely well so far.I've been washing them at colder temps and air drying to make them last, and that has worked great so far.The cell phone pocket fits an iPhone w/o a case.. The first cell phone pocket I have ever actually gotten anything from.I wear them pretty much everywhere. Probably wouldn't wear them to any really fancy restaurants or concerts. They work okay for climbing. While they hold up well to the wall/rock, and are way above average in mobility, they do still make some ultra-stretchy moves a bit more cumbersome, especially when its hot outside.I like them so much that they make a lot of my other pants seem primitive and superfluous.Only complaints:Hard time finding 34/34A plain black would be great, I like the current colors a lot but deep dusk with black looks pretty bad.Although I like the bird logo, I really wish that it was left off more arc'teryx stuff. As much as i'd like to only wear their stuff, I'd feel like a pretty big tool if shirt/pants/jacket all had the same logo on there.
Don't hesitate to buy these- they are totally bomber.

Not a fan of the custom crotch venting either

Kavu Chilliwack Pant - Men's

Kavu Chilliwack Pant - Men's

When I bought these I was pretty stoked. The canvass material is surprisingly stout for a $35 pant off S&C. Also happy with the brown bear color. However, the honeymoon was over real quick.I bought these in a large, which fits well length-wise, but the waist is quite a bit too large. Usually this can be remedied with a nice sturdy belt, however this pant is totally incompatible with belts, and its reliance on the thin and plastic buckled contraption it has around the waist is an inadequate measure to hold up such a heavy pair of pants. This probably would have been less of a problem with a medium.I also had a small hole wear through the crotch within the first couple of days. Not a fan of it.The back pockets look so unnatractive that you wonder how they ever came up with the design. If you like having people gaze at your butt all day- these are your pants- just don't be surprised if their stare turns into a look of empathetic bewilderment.

Arc'teryx Spotter Pant - Men's

March 19, 2010

I'll go ahead and answer my own question here now that I've received them. The woodsmoke color of the pants i received was actually a few shades off from the pants listend on backcountry and on rei. Seems like the white balance wasn't quite on for either photographer. Either way, the actual pants are much less brown than the pants shown on backcountry, and more olive colored/brownish than those on rei.

I'd call it a warm grey with a slight olive hue.

Great pants all around. Fit attractively and comfortably.
Seem like they will be pretty durable.
Coin and cell phone pocket are functional (even for caseless iphone).

Arc'teryx Spotter Pant - Men's

February 6, 2010

Hey- For anyone that has ordered these pants in Woodsmoke, a question: Is woodsmoke the fairly dark brown displayed here on backcountry and on the arc'teryx website? - or is it the washed out gray color that i've seen woodsmoke listed under on some other websites?
One site even has different colors for woodsmoke depending on what size you order - what gives??

thanks - ps, i'll attach a picture of the woodsmoke color from the other site
