Mountain Hardwear Nitrous Down Jacket - Men's

December 1, 2009

Yeah it's not even close to as warm as the SubZero. The SubZero has ~2 inches of loft and the Nitrous has more like 3/4 inch of loft.

MontBell U.L. Spiral Hugger #0 Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

MontBell U.L. Spiral Hugger #0 Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 4 December 1, 2009

I bought this bag for a mountaineering trip to Bolivia. The bag worked well although the temperatures never dipped below 20 degrees. I really want to test this bag in a more serious environment as the baffle construction worries me. As the bag sits, looking out of bag from the inside, you can see light shining through in 1/4 inch strips on every baffle stitch-line. To me, this signifies that cold air will be able to enter easily. Also, laterally the bag is huge. While it is nice to have some room to move around, this bag could be made lighter and smaller by eliminating some fabric and down.

My 2 cents.

Princeton Tec Corona Headlamp

May 26, 2009

Thanks Jason!

One last question: This site says the headlamp uses 3 AAA Alkaline batteries, but I figure this is a misprint. REI's online site says the headlamp takes 3 AA batteries. Can you verify which batteries this headlamp takes?

The reason I ask is because I want to own two headlamps that use the same batteries, eliminating the need to bring extra AA and AAA batteries on expeditions.

Thanks!

Princeton Tec Corona Headlamp

May 25, 2009

I like that this headlamp has a variety of lighting modes, but I am wondering how dim the single LED is. I am actually looking for a headlamp that has power, but also has a low-light setting.

The Petzl MYO RXP, for example can be used as low as 8 lumens. This would be good for around camp, so as to not blind other people. Does anyone know if the 1 LED setting on the Princeton Tec Corona is dimmer than 8 lumens?
