  • Stomping Grounds:

Madison, Wisconsin and all up in the Northwoods of the Upper Midwest
  • Bio:

Trying to slow down and simplify my life. Nothing beats getting outside. Born in Alaska, regrettably haven't been back. Moved to the UP of Michigan, regrettably haven't been back. Moved to Wisconsin and eventually Minnesota, the two beasts I now call home. Definitely looking to move westward eventually.

probably too big for the amount of trail cooking that i do, but gets the job done. the new safetylid is a little awkward in my opinion, but this thing definitely takes a beating and works well.

The North Face Wasatch Bx Sleeping Bag: 40-Degree Heatshield

The North Face Wasatch Bx Sleeping Bag: 40-Degree Heatshield

Rating for this product: 3 August 5, 2009

Pretty tight across the waist and shoulders, but plenty of length and it packs up to just about nothing. Spent 3 nights in Wisconsin at about 45 degrees and was absolutely toasty. Pretty stripped down and packable.

The North Face Tadpole 23 Bx Tent 2-Person 3-Season

The North Face Tadpole 23 Bx Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 August 5, 2009

About as lightweight a tent as I've ever had the pleasure of backpacking or car camping with. Not as roomy as I'd expected, but then again I'm a little bigger. Probably best for sharing with someone you're very friendly with. Really sturdy for being small, the fly is a little confusing. Overall, great bang for the buck.

I take one of these hiking, running, biking, anything I'm doing outside. Thought I'd need a few, but one is definitely getting the job done. Comfortable, good-looking, flexible, and really lightweight, it always seems to dry in just an hour or two. An everything shirt, definitely worth your $20.

A Stroke of Genius.

Mountain Hardwear Canyon Pant - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Canyon Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 5, 2009

Whether I'm hiking or doing some bouldering, these pants offer amazing flexibility. They're about as soft and lightweight as a pair of hiking pants can be, and pretty tough from what I've seen. A little prone to wrinkling, but the value is amazing.

Comfortable and Pretty Warm

Marmot Exergy Fleece Jacket - Men's

Marmot Exergy Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 August 5, 2009

First of all, probably not worth the $80 or what it's going for these days, not really windproof in any way but great for throwing on after a hike. Lined with a soft inner layer so you don't have that wool-itch sensation. Great for wearing around the fireplace or warming up in my apartment in winter.

Big and Warm

Marmot Trestles 0 Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Spirafil

Marmot Trestles 0 Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Spirafil

Rating for this product: 4 May 30, 2009

This bag is toastier than any other I've been in, which is definitely perfect for those winter car-camping nights--that being said, it's not something I could strap onto my backpack. The bag is huge, it hardly fits in the stuff sack, but it's perfect if you're looking for a quality beast of a bag and you're not conserving space. Quality.

The North Face Khumbu Fleece Jacket - Men's

The North Face Khumbu Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 May 23, 2009

Not only does the fleece look fly, but it zips in nicely to my Alliance winter jacket. I'm about 6'1'' and 195 lbs. and an XL is a tad large, but does the trick. Not the warmest layer on its own, but really comfortable.

Solid Jacket

The North Face Alliance Jacket - Men's

The North Face Alliance Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 May 23, 2009

This baby got me through Madison, Wisconsin's wettest winter with an nice zip-in fleece. But seriously, great for anybody with a nice zip-in fleece layer to make an effective winter jacket at a pretty decent price. Maybe not quite as breathable as advertised, but the hood zips off, the fleece zips in, and it looks pretty nice. Tough jacket.
