Five Ten Jet 7 Climbing Shoe

May 12, 2009

I find the two platforms to be quite different - as a lo volume, narrow foot person, I go down a full size from my US men's street shoe in the Anasazi Mocs, Velcros etc... one half size in the articulated toe models like the 7.

I would add a 1/2 size as one jumps through the foot descriptions-so if you are med volume/width, size street shoe in the 7...a high volume, wide foot—size UP 1/2 size to your street shoe, but TRY to try 'em on first!

P.S. This beta has been anecdotal-ly confirmed with my posse...

Five Ten Jet 7 Climbing Shoe

May 12, 2009

Stick it out! I am 1/2 size down from street shoe, with a narrow, low volume foot. It took longer than I thought to adjust, but I'm glad I did!

But yes, I know many people (those with wide hi-vol feet) who size above street shoe in certain 5.10 models.

No, they won't realllly stretch, but they will "morph" to your foot. This always sounds crazy to people, but to break in a TIGHT shoe (and I have done so for years), I climb with socks on for a few outings. Yes, socks with a tight shoe...it actually buffers the hot spots and makes the break-in period more comfy...really....it does.

Remember too, this is a performance shoe with a specific mission...not for the slabs shall we say (though as I mention in my review, to my great delight, one can really stand on them when one must-maybe just not the comfy choice.)

This shoe has really impressed me....for a while I didn't think it was the shoe for me...the break in was longer than I was accustomed to after a long love affair with the A. Velcro (still my #1 shoe.)

But after the break-in (the side of the shoe bothered my ankle a bit) all I can say is HOLY COW!

I was leery at first to take them to my local favorite crag which is just off vert and edgy. But when I did—what a pleasant surprise! Though drastically down-turned and articulated—which I knew would be the bomb for pulling on steep micro edges and pockets—to my delight, when the angle kicked back, I could reallllly stand on it as well!

Heel hooking-A+
Performance-A+
Comfort-well, let's just suffice it to say it's not thee shoe you wanna wear when checking the mail... ;-)

Five Ten Anasazi VCS V2 Climbing Shoe - Men's

Five Ten Anasazi VCS V2 Climbing Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 12, 2009

Were I restricted to one shoe for the rest of my climbing days, it would be the Anasazi Velcro.

Believe the hype! Look at its history. This shoe has been on the foot of many many many cutting edge ascents. Free climbs on El CAp. 5.15s V14s. You've seen the pics, now use this tried and true war horse to get you up your next proj.

Sometimes people seem confused as to how to size these shoes...
My advice for PERFORMANCE fit: Narrow foot/Low volume/high arch-down size 1 full size from your US street shoe size. Add a half size for med width/volume and a full size for high volume/wide/low arch feet.

I find it takes a half dozen or so pitches for the fit to settle in.

Buy 'em, try 'em and let 'em rip!!!

5.10 Anasazi LV

Five Ten Anasazi Low Volume Climbing Shoe - Women's

Five Ten Anasazi Low Volume Climbing Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 12, 2009

What a great shoe to have in the quiver!

If you are a smaller climber and have felt that other variations of the 5.10 velcro models have been too stiff, then this is the shoe for you! Edgy without being unfeeling, securely fitting heel, and the light color is a bonus for those hot summer days.

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS AS A WOMEN'S SHOE!!! Though sized on the women's chart, if you are a low volume dude, you'll dig this shoe! I size "true" to my men's velcro-use the EU size—it's the easiest way to convert.

Though I've worn them on cracks, edges and sloper fests—my favorite application for this shoe so far is steeper, smeary climbing—but for me this shoe fits into the "softer" category as I am a bigger climber!

The LV, The Anasazi Velcro, The Galileo...with these three velcro models, you've got it all covered!
